Dominic’s POV
It is time for the trip now and I sight the men ready for it as they are undergoing the last session of training. Training themselves actually.
“Isn’t it time yet?” I suddenly scream at them from a distance and they wave back at me, informing me that they’ll soon be with me. I suddenly feel a cold tap from behind and it is the King Alpha.
“Don’t let anyone know I’m right behind you. Just face your front and let me tell you what I’ve come to tell you.” He says and I remain focused at my front.
“In this hunting trip, ensure you don’t stay back. Don’t stay at the front as well. Most of the soldiers so died from this trip died because they focused on the front or their back. If rogues attack, they usually face you, not come sideways. Take my advice and stay safe.” He says and I nod to the affirmative as I simply appreciate, my voice dropping to a whisper to avoid attracting attention, “thank you very much. I will remember your niceness.”
“One more thing before your pal gets here,” he says and chuckles slightly, “ensure you don’t waste time on someone you love that you meet in the hunting trip. Research has shown that in each trip you go for in that forest, at least one person will meet a loved one. We don’t go there just anytime or anyhow we want to. So, that fact can still be believed. Don’t waste time on her. Greet and focus.”
After he completes that statement, he turns his back to me and head back to his official district. My pack is trash compared to this gargantuan, lovely, lively, and beautiful pack.
“I’m new to this but I hope we will have a wonderful time together.” I inform them as I feign a smile across my chin. They roll their eyes at me and don’t say anymore words. I shrug my shoulders and focus on the journey. While I was told not to focus on who I love that I meet, I also need to avoid focusing on who I hate that I meet and judging from their reaction, I am beginning to hate her. First impression really matters.
“Idiot, you’ll lead the road. I heard you’re an Alpha.” He says.
“I am not leading the road,” I protest, “you’re not the leader of this team. You don’t tell me what to do.”
“Who is this one speaking to?” He retorts as everyone of them stops walking. They wait for me to walk in front of them while they trail behind but I also stay. I remain unmoving until the next five minutes when none of them moves. I return to where I am coming from but they call me back. I was going to report to the King Alpha as we can’t move together.
“Stop being a coward. You don’t need to report our case!” He slightly raises his voice at me as he leads the way. I also refuse to stay back. We are up to seven here and I am part of those in the middle. I love to take instructions from whom I deem able to instruct me.
“This is how it’s going to work,” one of them suddenly says as we all stop and he turns to face me after he notices my expression, I feel frustrated by their frequent stops, “three of us will split to the left and four of us to the right.”
They suddenly divide themselves into three each as the one who suggested that asks me to join a team. I look at their faces, scrutinizing their expression to know which team I am to go with.
“Be quick, man. You waste time a lot!” He screams at me, his expression being wild. I pick a point from that. If I join his team, he’s going to bully me or he won’t cooperate. I rather follow the other group as we disperse.
“We are going to converge at the wellington district!” He screams before we are out of sight. We are four. One walks in the front. Two of us at the middle and one at the back. The one at the back struggles to get to the front but our feet are just too fast for him.
“Do you know who Darlington is?” The one in front suddenly asks as others deny it but I keep quiet.
“Hey, as long as I am walking in front of y’all, I am the leader. Okay?” He turns to face me and says.
“I don’t know who the person is.” I simply say and now we are at the verge of the Forest where we will start to draw our bows and shoot arrows at any rogue or animal sighted.
“Do you know how to tackle vampires? I don’t want to lose my life. I freaking have to celebrate my birthday during weekend.” The one in front says, his tone laced with fear.
“Don’t be scared. We can do this.” I encourage but he shoots me a deadly glare.
“Draw your bows, guys! We don’t have animals here yet but there are ROGUES!!” He suddenly screams as one of them hands a bow and several stack of arrows to me. I quickly collect it as I prepare to aim it at anyone sighted.
“Let’s be watchful. Anyone of us might meet his loved one.” One of them says. I wonder if they all knew what the King Alpha told me. Since they know the rules, why was the King Alpha trying to hide his face from them? I keep wondering but I don’t say a word about it.
“They are trying to ambush us. Don’t lose guard!” He screams again as I draw my bow, facing the left direction while another one called Justus draws his bow and turns to the right direction. We face different direction so we can inform ourselves if there’s any mishap or rogue sighted.
“They can’t outsmart us. Track their scent. It’s in the air.” The one in front earlier commands the other two guys. The one named Justus brings out a tracking device as it begins to read different digits. This is the first time I’ll see a tracking device used to track a wolf’s scent. The one I know of is the one used to track a human’s location.
“The upper left direction!” Justus suddenly screams as we head towards there. They start coming towards us and when we look back, they are behind us as well. I fret a bit, I won’t lie but I hold the bow and arrows tightly. Within a few minutes, I see Justus on the ground, soaked in his own blood. Many arrows have pierced his heart and skull. I almost scream at that but I maintain composure and start firing arrows at the enemies mercilessly.
As I almost draw my bow a last time after I have killed up to fifty people with the arrows, I squint my eyes as my wolf detects a familiar scent. Who could it be? I walk over to the young lady on the ground and sighting her body shape, I can guess who she is, already. I slowly nudge her to stand up and after she does, I see that it is Harley.
“Harley? You came to hunt?” I ask, my mood being lifted at her presence.
“Am I being deceived? Harley, is this you?!” I scream as she freezes up at sighting me. I am equally shocked to see her. I am so happy to meet her again. I look back and see the three other people I came with, dead on the ground. I shake my head and bow thrice to pay my last respect to them.
“You’re not being deceived. Dominic! Are you sure you’re not a monster anymore?” She asks as her eyes begin to brim with tears.
“No. Not anymore. I promise you.” I say as I slowly kiss her. The fun fact is that it is only me and her that are left out of everyone that fought against one another.
“We can return to my pack, now, right?” I ask as my heart brims with tears but I don’t allow it to fall down my chin.
“Dominic, you don’t own the pack again.” She simply says.
“What do you mean by that?” I ask, my expression suddenly changing.
“A guy took over in your absence and has done a lot of refurbishing. He even dethroned me as the Alpha’s stripper.” She says.
“Sure, he should dethrone you. I wouldn’t let a stranger have you. Let’s go there. Fast. I need to show him some madness.” I say as I help her up.
“I am telling you. We can’t just barge into the pack and claim it. He has many security measures in the pack.” She says.
I bitterly cry out, “in my absence? When did I leave?!”
“Don’t be sad. I have plans to take him down but you have to be very wise.” She says.
“I am. Am I not?” I ask and she nods in the affirmative. It starts to drop now as she helps me up after I drop myself to the ground, and we run off from this place.
