“I knew it! It was a deception!”
“Hope you’re safe?” Mum asks, cleaning up my face.
“She… they wanted to throw me into the furnace but I-i-I” I keep stammering but mum holds me back from retaliating on those fake figures.
“What about Amanda? I am unable to mind link her at the moment. That’s strange.”
“You said what I should have said. It’s strange!” I exclaim.
“Shh. Don’t be so loud. We were able to hide somewhere. We can’t keep being in the open this way. We will be caught and interrogated, especially when Amanda is not around.”
“She deceived us as well. She informed me about her trick when I fell for it already.” I explain to her but she can’t believe her eyes
With shaky voice, she utters, “do you believe there’s no way out here?”
Reality dawns on me as Jake sniffles, saying, “we never should have believed her. You forced us here.”
“I only tried to come. If you had stayed back, you would be here to save me, but not through Amanda.” She says but I roll my eyes at her.
“How possible? It would be through Amanda. No one else!”
“Could be my savior.” Jake says.
“And…” I ask, stifling a giggle, “who’s that?”
“You don’t know him but he taught me a few things before I became conscious and escaped.”
“A few things? Can you cite an example of the few things?” I mock his words.
“It can be discussed privately.” He says, walking out on us. We begin to follow him but I whisper to both of them, “I don’t listen to long stories. Ensure you make everything brief so we can rescue dad and leave here.”
“Rumors had it that I have been killed a lot of times, but it was never true. It’s just a different world. The werewolf world is quite different from the human world. Wolves might still be present in the human world but what’s really the world is the personality within you. The feel. The lifestyle. The daily must dos.” Jake begins to express once we crawl back to their hiding place. It’s actually inside a cave.
“Here reminds me of a movie I saw, when a particular guy called Dan did take me out. I loved watching werewolf movies a lot but hated seeing or having an encounter with them.” Mum expresses.
I suddenly exclaim, my voice laced with seriousness, “is this what will save us? Story of how you got saved or story of how interesting the past was?”
“Come on, kid.” Mum says but someone grabs me from behind and cover my eyes with his palms. The palms are hairy and I detect the person as a werewolf. But when I land to the ground with a loud thud after being thrown, I realize it’s not a werewolf but an hairy human.
“Cell number 57.” He mutters before leaving.
ALEX
I’ve been in the pack cell for a few weeks now with no hope of departure. Even if my people come here to save me, we will all remain trapped. There’s no way out.
“Idiot. You’re next to clean up the restroom.” Ben, one of my cell roommate, informs as he reenters the room. I ignore but he slaps me from behind, his tone raising in pitch
“Hey, come here, you’re not my boss, OK? We are both trapped here and you’re not more frustrated.”
He chuckles softly, unlike the reaction I expected from him.
“Who is frustrated? Only you.” He says, and kicks me to the floor, spitting and laying in bed.
“Tell me more, why aren’t you frustrated?” I inquire, rising to my feet to join him in bed. There surely must be something more to his not being frustrated.
“I found a way out of here.” He suddenly says but I don’t feel elated. It looks more like a prank or just awoof belief.
“What’s the way out?”
“We need blood. Werewolf blood to get out. I found a concrete walls not too far from us. There, we can break through if we use the werewolf blood”
“Man! What has werewolf blood got to do with escaping? Why should we kill to survive?”
“Because we are warriors!”
“I am not sure we will need that. But I can try to provide it for you. Shortly before then, can I check the concrete walls that’s not too far from us?”
“Journey with me.” He holds my hands but as we get out, the security wolves begin to shoot a lot of people in this territory. I feel remorseful for them, even when Ben speaks up.
“Those people aren’t werewolves. They are mere humans. Abomination to all packs or even the human vicinity. No one should be human anymore.”
I ignore his words but my heartbeat races faster when I turn back to enter the room but Nora is standing in front of me.
“Nora?!” I scream, still transfixed to a spot, as Jack and Jake materialize. How possible is this?
“I can’t believe my eyes!” I scream.
“Who are these?” Ben disdainfully looks at both of them.
“This is my family. We are going to make this work! The larger the population, the higher the chance of escape, correct?”
“Let’s say so. It depends on the number of security wolves present when we’re about to escape.”
“Can we do that now?” Nora inquires. I have missed that voice. I pull her into a tight hug and while I leave her to get some information from Ben, I seize the chance to discuss with Jake and Jack.
“You guys are the best, seriously. You came here to rescue me?”
“Yes, because you’re my father. Don’t know about the loser. He could be a product of my uncle.” Jack states.
“Don’t be so inconsiderate with your words. He’s your twin brother, not even your younger one. You’re meant to love each other.”
“As you and Dominic love each other, right?”
I heave a deep sigh.
“We’re gonna escape, OK? Kids, trust me. Mum is gonna…” I say, wanting to point at Nora before continuing my speech but I can’t find her around my doorstep anymore.
“Nora?” I call, sharply. I quickly leave Jack and Jake and after locking them up in the room, I begin to find Nora
“Nora?!!” I scream. A werewolf rather pounces on me. I slide underneath it, and punch blows at it severely until it is weak. It shifts to his human back, and I see that it is Ben.
“Thought you wanted to hurt Nora.”
“How come you know her name?” I ask.
“You were screaming her name, bro!”
“You could hear that. But you couldn’t identify who was trying to attack you?”
“My apologies. Nora is safe. She’s just too beautiful not to have kids for me.
“And… what does that mean?” I ask, suspecting he might have done harm to her.
I push him away from the way, rushing to the room he emerged from. I see Nora asleep with a lot of drugs around her. Did this dude drug my mate, and had enough of her?
I begin to ponder until my two kids approach
“How did you leave the room?”
“Remember, Jack is a code expert.” Jake says as Jack rearranges his polo. The door can be opened really, if you know the code or can crack it.
“Nora, wake up.” I feel something disconnecting from me, like a mate bond being broken and shattered.
“Nora, wake up!!”
