“For a God Shake, Kairos. Where did you come from?”
This evening, after work, Kairos invited Edward and Samuel to meet at one of their favorite coffee shops. They relaxed, chatted, and caught up, especially since Kairos knew Edward had been looking for him lately.
“I told you I went to Italy. Why are you still searching?” Kairos responded casually to Edward’s words.
“What I really need is your help,” Edward said.
Kairos laughed. He responded casually to Edward’s statement. “What help do you need? Do you want to marry Bella?”
Kairos deliberately provoked, just wanting to know what Edward would tell him next.
“No, Kairos. It seems I won’t be able to marry Bella,” Edward replied.
Kairos was startled. “Why? Are you afraid of Julia?”
Edward laughed bitterly. “Julia even knows about the affair Bella and I had. Julia is furious and threatens to torment Bella if I insist on leaving, let alone divorcing her.”
“And you chose to go back to Julia and let Bella go?” Kairos asked incredulously.
Edward nodded dismally. “Stupid me! I’ve truly toyed with Bella’s feelings, Kairos. Remember! You slept with Bella several times.”
“I know!” Edward’s voice rose. “But what can I do? If I insist on marrying Bella, Julia will sue her. She even threatens to humiliate Bella publicly and sue her as a home-wrecker.”
“And your spine shriveled up? I think you’re the dumbest man in the world, Edward. If you love Bella, I’m sure there’s always a way for you to help her. You’re filthy rich, Edward Darkwood. If Julia dares to humiliate you, you can sue her back. With your money, you can even silence the media. Haven’t you ever thought that far?”
“But I still don’t want to let Bella suffer and bear all this, Kairos.”
Kairos shook his head in disbelief. Where was Edward’s train of thought right now? Why was his friend so foolish and seemingly brainless?
“So, after Bella gives birth to your child, will you let her leave your house?”
“Bella has been running away from my house for several days now,” Edward replied.
“What?!” Kairos pretended to be surprised. Although he knew what actually happened. The same went for Samuel, who chose to remain mostly silent, seeming reluctant to get involved. “Bella left your house? Why?”
“I don’t know,” Edward shrugged. “After the incident where Bella and I were caught making love, we both got into a fight. Bella accused Julia of cheating behind my back. Out of anger, I shouted at her. Perhaps because of this, Bella didn’t accept it and thought I was too supportive of Julia.”
“You’re really foolish, Edward.”
“Bella accused without evidence, Kairos.”
“If Bella can provide evidence, will you immediately leave Julia?”
“Of course.”
Kairos nodded.
“You should have left Julia, the troublemaker, long ago.”
“I couldn’t, Kairos. Right now, Julia is even pregnant.”
This time Kairos and Samuel were truly surprised. They even glanced at each other.
“Julia’s pregnant?”
Edward nodded.
“Yes. Just a few days ago, I took her to the doctor when Julia suddenly fainted.”
“And you believe the baby in her belly is yours?”
“Whose else could it be?”
Kairos lazily replied. He shook his head to himself upon hearing Edward’s answer.
“Anyway, back to our initial discussion,” Samuel said, “you have important news to tell me. You said this news could help me to divorce Julia soon.”
Kairos smiled. His face looked relaxed.
“Ah, forget it. I don’t want to discuss it today.”
“Damn it!” Edward cursed. Afterward, they continued to talk, discussing other topics. Because he was tired, Edward decided to go home earlier than the others.
Meanwhile, Samuel was confused. He wondered why Kairos seemed unwilling to tell Edward what really happened to Julia.
“Why don’t you just tell Edward about Julia’s wickedness? I’m tired of seeing their marital drama.”
Kairos laughed. He leaned back in his chair, then sat more leisurely.
“Don’t worry, Sam. I will tell Edward. Just watch, see what I’ll do. Don’t mention my name, Kairos, if after this Edward doesn’t cry blood regretting his foolishness!”
