CHAPTER SEVENTY-TWO
ASTRID’S POV
I’m barely living these days, but right now, I’m not going to bore you with my lamentations and failed love story with Alpha Asher.
I have been training hard, like every hard and there’s only one reason why I’m doing so.
To avenge my parents death.
I don’t know how I’m going to do it yet, but I know when the time comes, the moon goddess will see me through.
However, today doesn’t seem to be a good day for me because I’m not feeling too well.
Usually, when I get to the training the ground, I’m the first to start organizing the others while waiting for Rowan to arrive, but today, I don’t feel like doing anything.
Right now, I’m seated in the dressing room and watching the other females strip off their clothes and shapeshift, but I don’t feel like doing so and that is very strange.
“Astrid” A familiar voice calls and I immediately know it’s Cassie, one of my friends.
“Good morning Cassie” I greet as she takes a seat by myside.
“Good morning. It’s odd to see you not already running in the fields by now, what’s going on?’
“I don’t feel good, that’s all”
“Well, that’s normal. You have trained too hard these past weeks, your body must be exhausted. I think you should take a break, even if it’s just for today” She explains and I smile at her.
“I sure will”
“Ahh! I wish I was the one in your shoes, I badly need to rest”
“Get away from here, lazy bone!” I playfully push her away and she laughs hard as she rises in her feet.
“I better go ahead, I wouldn’t want Rowan to have me punished today”
“Yeah, you better get going”
Cassie is always one of the last people to join us for training ground. She is always receiving punishments from Rowan and it’s so adorable to watch them argue every single day.
I can bet my life that there’s some chemistry sparking up between them, even though they both haven’t noticed it yet.
I rise up on my feet against the will of my body so I can try to shape shift and join the others outside. I would die of depression if I don’t go out for training today.
“Don’t take off your clothes because I’m not going to take over you today” Tiva cautions in my mind and I crease my brows as I sit back on the chair.
This is strange.
Tiva’s best moment is when I let her take over me in wolf form, if she’s denying to do so today, that means there’s something wrong.
“Tiva, is everything alright?” I ask in my mind and she let’s out a sad purr. “You know this is not the time for you to be naughty, right?” I caution but she doesn’t say anything.
I try to transform my fists into paws, but she resists.
“Tiva! Stop being naughty!” I warn.
“You can’t shapeshift!”
“Why not?”
“Because if you do, you will hurt the little one”
“What little one?” I ask totally confused.
What the hell is she talking about.
“Astrid, we are expecting!”
The moment I understand the meaning of those last words, everything goes black and the only thing I can hear is faint footsteps and voices approaching me.
This is the end for me.
ASHER’S POV.
The moment the news about Astrid reached me in my office, I didn’t even think twice before rushing to the hospital.
Rowan and I have been walking Helter skelter around this corridor, waiting for the doctor to come out and tell us what happened.
Nervousness is about to end my life right now.
Why did she suddenly faint?
What is wrong with her?
“Was she fine yesterday?” I suddenly ask Rowan and he nods his head.
“She was perfectly okay”
“Then what could be wrong?” I ask rhetorically as I pace about and just then, the emergency room door opens up and a doctor walks out of it. Both Rowan and I hurry over to him, hoping that he will tell us something pleasant.
“Doctor, how is Astrid?” We both ask in unison.
“Alpha Asher, Alpha Rowan, calm down. Miss Astrid is doing okay. She’s just resting right now?”
“She’s doing okay?” I ask just to be sure that I heard well.
“Yes, she is”
“So, what made her faint?”
“Well, she tried to shapeshift which was dangerous for her health, so the only way her wolf could protect her was to make her pass out”
“Hold on, since when did shapeshiffting become dangerous to a werewolf’s health?”
“Well, Miss Astrid is pregnant, that’s why I say…”
“Astrid is pregnant?” I cut him off and he quietly nods his head.
Rowan and I exchange confused glances and I look back at the doctor.
“Where is she?”
“Please come with me” He leads the way and both Rowan and I follow him.
Right now, my emotions are all over the place.
Astrid is pregnant for me. We are not even in the best of terms.
I am married to someone else.
This is crazy.
This is just crazy.
“Here we are” The doctor announces as we into a private ward an the first thing I look at is the bed. My heart leaps in joy when I see Astrid sleeping on the bed and my eyes trail all the way for her stomach.
Our little pup is in there.
I can actually feel tears stinging in my eyes and my heart is all swollen with emotions.
How did things get to this level?
“Doctor, you said she’s okay, right?”
“Yeah, she is. We gave her a few pills so she can sleep for a while longer. She needs much rest because her wolf did drain her alot when she tried to make her go unconscious so as to stop her from shapeshifting. It will take some time before she regains her energy”
“I see…” I see nodding. “That means she can go home now”
“Yes, you can take her home, but she needs to be here by weekend for her first prenatal check up and echography as well”
“We will be here together, thank you very much”
“You are welcome. If you’d excuse me now, I have other patients to check on”
“Go ahead please”
The doctor leaves and I look at Rowan who looks just as terrified as I am.
“Do you know what this means?” He asks.
“It means I’m going to be a father” I say with a proud smile.
“Yeah… but no… but… it means this is trouble! What will Adoph say when he finds out?”
“Adolph is not a factor, Rowan”
“I know he isn’t but… damn, this is messed up. Pardon me, I don’t mean Astrid getting pregnant is messed up. No, no way, this is the best news I have received for quite some time now. I’m just talking about the situation we are in right now. Astrid doesn’t even want to see you!” He explains and his words just tell me how worried he is for me.
My loving brother.
I smile and give him a gentle tap on his shoulders.
“You do know we have the Moon goddess on our side, right?” I ask with a smile.
“Yeah, I know that”
“Then, trust her to make things right, because I do.” I say as I walk towards the bed.
“I do trust her”
“Then let not your heart be troubled. Everything is going to be fine”. I place a gently kiss on Astrid lips and stomach before scooping her into my arms.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m taking her home”
“Home, as in to your chambers?”
“My chambers, in my real bedroom. That’s where she belongs.”
“She is going to freak out once she wakes up and finds out”
“I know, but she’ll eventually come around. I’m very sure of that”
“If you say so” He leads the way out of the ward and we both walk out of the hospital with Astrid in my arms.
Everything is going to be alright.
I believe in the witch’s words , I believe in the moon goddess.
This pregnancy is a sign that everything is going to be alright.
