Jonathan spoke anxiously over the phone, “Credence, it’s like this. Marv is leading a group of combat experts from the police station along with his men. They booked two planes and headed for Kowloon City. But, on the way to the airport, he suddenly discovered Melanie’s whereabouts, and assigned his men to follow her…”
“In the end, it turned out it wasn’t Melanie, but a strange woman who was dressed like her. They went around in circles, before finally arriving at the edge of a cliff. Then the woman took off her mask, smiled at Marv, and disappeared.”
“Marv realized that Jeremy had tricked him and immediately tried to call you. But you hadn’t gotten off the plane yet, so he couldn’t get through. He says on their way back, a bridge had been blown up. He won’t be able to meet you in Kowloon City for the time being. He says you need to be careful. Melanie and Jeremy, are working together and will never let you go. Their aim is to kill you for good this time!”
Credence felt demoralized.
He didn’t expect Marvin to fall into one of their traps before even leaving Talco City airport.
Without Marvin’s help, he would not be able to deal with Melanie. The situation was becoming dire.
However, in order to draw out that cruel woman, it would still be necessary to take some risks.
Having thought about it, Credence quickly replied, “Okay, I understand.”He then hung up the phone and gave Benjamin an order.
“Something’s happened to Marvin, he won’t be able to meet up with us for the time being. At the next intersection, all of us need to get off the expressway and find a hotel in the nearest town. When Marvin contacts us again, we’ll work out another plan.”
Benjamin said, “Okay, Mr. Scott, understood.”
He wasn’t sure how Benjamin would be able to explain this to Lily’s parents. After being told about the change of plans, they didn’t complain much. They agreed to Benjamin’s plans, so long as they could send off Lily’s remains within 24 hours.
At 1:20 p. m, the three of them arrived at a smaller city just before Kowloon City. Credence asked Benjamin to rent some new cars. He then told him to send Lily’s family back to their hometown. He and Dorothy would stay in a hotel for the time being.
He could tell that Dorothy was extremely tired. Even if she had already slept on the plane for a few hours, the journey wasn’t very smooth, and she didn’t get a good sleep.
Benjamin looked at Credence, who was carrying a suitcase in one hand and holding Dorothy with the other while crossing the street. Benjamin chased after them, he was somewhat worried. “Mr. Scott, I’m concerned about you and Dorothy.”
Since Dorothy was beside him, Benjamin kept things vague with Credence, so as to not cause alarm.
He was worried that Melanie would suddenly rush out to kill the two of them.
“I’m here, there’s nothing to worry about!”
Credence looked up. He looked like he was enjoying the scenery around him, but he’d actually been keeping an eye on Lily’s father. There was a dark light in his eyes.
Benjamin had served him for many years, and immediately understood Credence’s intention. He nodded and immediately stopped talking. After ushering Lily’s parents into their new car, he then got into another black car and told the driver to go to a specific address. The two cars then drove away from the hotel.
After entering the hotel, Credence booked the most expensive room available. He swiped the key card at the door and led Dorothy into the room. He figured she should get some rest.
After cleaning herself up, Dorothy sat on the bed in high spirits. She thought about what Credence and Benjamin said earlier. Although it didn’t sound like much, there sounded to be more to that conversation than it seems. She didn’t quite catch it at first, but after thinking about it, she noticed something odd.
On top of that, when Credence closed the door, she glanced at both ends of the corridor. She recognized some of the bodyguards who protected her and Belle in the hospital from before. Although they had all changed into casual clothing, they were still standing at attention. They looked very different from a regular person on a trip.
This meant that Credence had arranged for a lot of security for their journey from Talco City to Kowloon City.
But why?
Why did he need to take such precautions? Besides, it was very obvious that he was protecting her.
Could it be that Melanie was following them?
Dorothy trembled at the thought of her name, “Melanie”. She turned to look at Credence who was washing dishes in the bathroom and asked softly, “Credence, are you hiding something from me?”
Credence walked out of the bathroom and smiled. He looked at her and asked, “What could I be hiding from you?”
She looked at his smiling face, as though everything was alright. Dorothy immediately flew into a rage and glared at him. “Melanie is in Kowloon City, isn’t she? Is she here to kill me, or you? Is she planning to kill us both?”
“If she was here, would I be this calm, having taken you out this far? Do you think I’d let us just be sitting ducks, ready to be slaughtered?”
The man raised his eyebrows and smiled. He then dragged over a small dining table to the edge of the bed. His face was still calm. He neatly arranged the tableware, opened a suitcase, and pulled out a delicate-looking box. Inside was a double-layer thermal container, containing a scrumptious meal inside. There were also two bowls of hot soup.
Dorothy could tell that everything was well-prepared and made to her liking. It was delicious and very nutritious.
He smiled brightly and said, “Honey, these are your favorite. Eat them while they’re hot.” Dorothy could see right through him.
“Credence, don’t think for a moment that I’ll stop asking about Melanie just because you’ve bribed me with food.”
Dorothy frowned and endured the wafting fragrance of the delicious food entering her nose. She then said bluntly, “You’re always like this, you don’t tell me anything, you just keep me in the dark. Do you enjoy this?”
Credence noticed that she hadn’t touched her silverware, and was now accusing him. Credence shook his head, frowned, and said calmly and kindly, “Honey, I have no idea if Melanie has actually followed us or not. Based on my understanding of her, I can guess how she’d take action. But, as of now, since she’s started working together with Jeremy, I can’t be sure of her next move. That is why I need to prepare for anything so that we don’t get caught off guard.”
Dorothy asked. “Is she still with Jeremy?”
