Credence was deeply shocked when he saw the tears that were slowly flowing down Dorothy’s face.
He immediately put out his cigarette and threw it into the ashtray. After that, he strode out of the door and walked towards Dorothy. He raised his hand to hold her slender shoulders, then pulled her into his embrace. After that, he showed her a bitter smile and said softly, “You heard it, didn’t you?”
As Dorothy listened to his calm and pained voice, her hands pulled on his black shirt and shook him violently, “Before you left, you told me that the girl who could donate her bone marrow to Belle was called Lily, right? And Jules just told you that Lily had died five minutes ago on the phone, right?”
‘Why? Lily was a good girl who could have lived for at least another six months. Why did she suddenly die overnight? Just like that. What is Belle going to do? What will happen to our only daughter?”
Dorothy choked from sobbing. There were tears of pain and sorrow in her eyes. Her face was cold and pale. Every time her heart beat, it brought along a sharp throb of pain with it.
From disappointment to despair, such a huge change in emotions happened overnight. How could she accept a loss as large as this?
She sadly parted her pale lips and looked up at Credence. Her lips were trembling, but she couldn’t say anything at all.
Her heart was in such immense pain, it was unbearable!
It hurt so much. She felt immense pain with every breath she took!
The child in her womb could feel her pain, and it started to move about. It started kicking her with his little feet.
This made Dorothy feel even more pain. Her face was extremely pale, and she frowned horribly. She let out a hiss from her mouth, “Ah!”
“Honey, what’s wrong? Is our child kicking you again?”
Credence bent his body slightly, he lowered his head and saw the obvious bulge on the lower right side of Dorothy’s belly. He quickly touched it gently to comfort the child who was throwing a tantrum inside.
After comforting the child for a little while, the child stopped fussing, and it became quiet. Dorothy’s belly went back to normal.
Dorothy raised her head and fixed her eyes on Credence’s slightly gaunt and tired face. He looked anxious and was filled with deep pain. “Credence, didn’t you tell me that you were going to protect Lily personally? How did Melanie kill her? You clearly know that Melanie is a maniac. She’s cruel and bloodthirsty, so why didn’t you send more people to protect Lily?”
“Apart from the fact that she could have saved Belle’s life, Lily is just a little girl who hasn’t even turned eight yet. Just because her bone marrow is suitable for Belle’s, and the fact that Belle is your daughter, Lily was targeted by Melanie and died from her hands. Don’t you think you’ve committed a huge injustice towards her?”
“If Lily’s bone marrow wasn’t a match with Belle’s, perhaps she wouldn’t have died tonight. She might still be able to live for a little while longer. So…”
Dorothy’s lips were pale and trembling, tears streamed down her widened eyes. She spoke. “So, Credence, I want to see Lily. If I can, I want to see her and accompany her. After all, it was all our fault… we’ve ended an innocent life.”
“Alright, I can promise you that. I’ll accompany you and will take Lily home.”
Credence stared at her teary face and pitiful eyes. He let out a soft sigh and said, “I need to make something clear first. If the two of us leave, does that mean you are going to let Juelz and Germaine take care of Belle?”
She said, “Of course!”
Dorothy slowly nodded. “With Belle’s condition as it is, a long journey isn’t good for her. Leave her in the hospital, I trust that Juelz and Germaine will take good care of her!”
“Okay, I’ll call Jonathan right away and ask him to talk to Lily’s parents. We will see what kind of conditions they have. We will try to satisfy their every need.”
“Okay.”
Dorothy was calm. She nodded her head, turned around and took heavy steps back to her room.
In the deepest parts of her heart, she still blamed Credence.
Had he not provoked that cold-blooded woman, Melanie, back in the army, then Lily would not have died.
If Lily hadn’t died, then Belle’s life could be saved, and all of these things wouldn’t have happened.
She was worried about the child in her belly, she remembered the painful lessons she experienced before. So Dorothy calmed herself down, as she gently gasped and took deep breaths, slowly relaxing her body.
As a mother, protecting her child was a natural thing to do. It was her duty. She couldn’t let anything happen to her child.
Credence only stood there, as he stared at Dorothy’s slender back. He took small steps to distance himself from her line of sight and disappeared from the ward. After a moment of silence, he turned around, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. The chill in his eyes was bone-numbingly harsh.
With that, he took out his mobile phone from his pocket and called Germaine. “It’s me! Miss Sherman, my wife is in a bad mood. Please come and accompany her. That’s right, right now!”
After getting Germaine’s confirmation, Credence softly thanked her. Then he called Jonathan, telling him that he must agree to all of Lily’s parents’ requests, whether it was reasonable or not.
After around ten minutes, Jonathan called back.
As soon as Credence answered the call, he heard Jonathan’s exasperated screams. “F*ck me! Lily’s parents are insane! They said that they wanted five million dollars for compensation to make up for Lily’s death in the hospital.”
“And, I don’t know where they heard this. They know that Lily died because of Belle. They asked you and Dorothy to see them in person. F*ck! Oh, that’s not all. They want you and Dorothy to send Lily back to her hometown. What kind of crazy conditions are these, what the f*ck!”
“Jeremy must have been the one to have told them. Try to calm them down first. No matter what they want, you must agree to it.”
After hanging up, Credence started walking. He took one step after the other. His footsteps were as light as the wind. He walked towards the window, lit a cigarette, and blew out some smoke. His brain was working overtime, he was thinking hard.
Lily’s hometown was within Kowloon City. It was a simple place, and the people there didn’t have much to worry about.
That means that Jeremy was the only one who could think of such strange requests.
Since Jeremy was the one behind the scenes in everything, it meant that Melanie must have participated in it as well.
Thinking about that diabolical, cold, and cruel Melanie was enough to disturb Credence.
He needed to get to Kowloon City to think of a way to end her life.
As for Jeremy, due to the relationship between him and Dorothy, he couldn’t play hardball with him for the time being. This issue with Jeremy was really giving him a headache, but he could only take it one step at a time.
Soon, Jonathan called. He was so angry that he shouted until he was frothing in the mouth. “F*ck, Credence, I promised to give Lily’s parents an extra two million dollars, and they agreed not to make things difficult for you and Dorothy, but they still insist that the two of you should send Lily back to her hometown… F*ck, they aren’t budging, no matter what I tell them. Who the f*ck do they think they are? I’m so frustrated!”
“What’s there to be angry about? Tell them that Dorothy and I will go.”
“Why? Credence, don’t you know your own status? Don’t you know Dorothy’s status? How could you agree to their unreasonable request?”
“Because, I want to thoroughly end Melanie’s life!”
Jonathan didn’t understand and wanted to ask him, but Credence didn’t give him the chance to. He frowned and hung up the phone.
