Credence was in the driver’s seat. He held the steering wheel tightly with both hands and stomped on the accelerator.
The car sped forward like an arrow that was loosed from a bow. His entire body shook along with the movement of the car. His dark pupils were red, and his vision was blurry. He couldn’t see very clearly.
He was worried about Dorothy, who was lying unconscious in the operating room. He was also worried about Belle, his precious daughter who only had six months to live if they couldn’t find a suitable match for her bone marrow. He thought of the child in Dorothy’s womb that might end up as a miscarriage.
The fetus was only four months old. Was it really going to just leave this world, just like that?
“Ah… ”
Credence punched the steering wheel many times. He was in so much anguish that he was losing control of himself. He let out several painful screams.
He and Dorothy had gone through so much together. Why wouldn’t God just let him be? Just as he was about to see the dawn from his dark and miserable life? Why was God punishing him again?
Amidst his internal chaos, Credence realized he had turned too fast and was about to hit the railings. No matter how hard he turned the steering wheel, it was too late.
With a loud smash, an earth-shattering sound rang out.
All the blood in Credence’s body rushed to his head. His vision turned black and he was nearly knocked unconscious.
When he recovered his senses and opened his eyes again, the traffic police and several uniformed policemen were around him. They dragged him out of his car.
Credence vaguely spotted a familiar face.
Ivana, dressed in uniform, looked brave but worried. She spoke to him. “Mr. Scott, how are you feeling? Are you hurt? Do I need to take you to the hospital for a full-body examination right now?”
He said, “No, I’m fine.”
As Ivana stretched out her soft hands, Credence shook his head. He placed an arm on a male traffic officer that was next to him and stood up with his help.
He straightened his body and ignored the sharp pain from his legs. He asked the male police officer, “Where is your car?”
The male traffic officer had a blank look on his face. He was very intimidated by Credence. He pointed towards a white car that had a traffic police insignia on it. “That’s the one.”
“Give me your keys.”
As soon as Credence ordered it, the male traffic officer obediently handed over his car keys.
Seeing him collect the keys from the male traffic officer, Ivana’s had stopped. She was about to hand him his car keys.
Credence turned a blind eye to her awkward behaviour.
“When you go to the Scott Group building later, look for my assistant Benjamin, he will give you what you deserve.”
He then jumped into the white car and started the engine. The engine roared to life and he drove off in a flash.
…
“Okay, I understand. Marv, take good care of Dorothy. I’ll look into Credence’s situation, I won’t let anything bad happen to him.”
Jonathan answered Marvin’s call in the office. Before he could let out a sigh, the door was suddenly kicked open from the outside.
There was a loud bang.
The door collapsed and slammed down on Jonathan’s desk. If he hadn’t dodged it in time, he would have broken one of his arms.
After all, his so-called mahogany desk, which he claims to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, was almost smashed in half, right down the middle.
“What the…, who the f*ck is out there causing a ruckus?” Jonathan was exasperated.
As he looked up, he saw a man who was deeply immersed in pain and sorrow staggering in. He had never seen Credence in such a state of despair before. Jonathan panicked and turned to run, his body wobbled about frantically. Jonathan was caught off guard. “Credence, calm down! You have to calm down! I’ve heard about what happened to Dorothy and Belle. Don’t worry, there has to be a solution. We’ll find a way to cure Belle’s condition. You want to head to the organ warehouse to find a suitable bone marrow for her, right? Okay, let me call the person in charge of that right now.”
Credence listened to every word, his lips trembling. He wanted to speak, but was shaking so badly, he was unable to utter a single word.
In the end, he solemnly nodded to Jonathan, with gratitude in his eyes.
“Oh, Credence, we’ve been best friends for over 20 years. Back then, we drank together, fought together, and chased girls together. Don’t be like this. I can’t stand it.”
Credence didn’t say anything. He wanted to start walking. He wanted to find someplace to sit down, but his legs were buckling.
Jonathan saw this and was saddened at the state of his friend. He took a step forward and reached out to support his heavy shoulders. He lead Credence to the sofa and slowly sat him down.
As soon as he landed on the sofa, his eyes closed, and his iron-like body fell to the ground.
“D*mn it, Credence, don’t f*cking scare me like that!”
Jonathan was so shocked that he rushed over and held his hand under Credence’s nose. He felt him breathing, and then breathed a sigh of relief.
F*cking hell, it wasn’t April Fool’s today. He shouldn’t have scared him like that!
With Jonathan’s basic medical skills, he figured that Credence fell over due to anxiety.
He lowered his head and sighed. Just as he was about to move Credence back onto the sofa, he noticed that his nose and mouth began to bleed. His black trousers felt wet when he touched them.
Jonathan quickly put him down, went around to Credence’s feet, and rolled up his black trousers. His legs were badly injured, there were broken bones sticking out from his exposed flesh. There was only a white layer of fascia supporting his bones from completely breaking apart.
Both of his legs were lacerated and badly mutilated. Jonathan could feel how much it must hurt just by looking at it.
“Oh f**k.”
Jonathan cursed, he was shocked. “Credence, your legs are in such bad shape. You must have gotten into an accident on your way here.”
Did Credence drag himself up here with his nearly crippled feet, making it all the way to his office just with mental strength alone?
It had to be extremely painful!
“F*ck, Credence, how the f*ck could you do this to yourself?!”
But Credence was completely unconscious. He could not respond.
Jonathan stood up, took out his cell phone and made a phone call. “Chris, it’s me! Come to my office, call the best orthopedic physicians you have! You only have three minutes to get here. If you are even a second late, I’m cutting your bonus for the month. Oh, and get a nurse over as well, Minnie. Yes, that’s right, Yes, I like her, I don’t care if everyone knows. What are you going to do about it?! If you don’t want your f*cking job, then shove off!”
Chris was a senior doctor in the hospital, who was head hunted by Jonathan’s father with a very good salary package. He was a student from a well-known foreign medical institution. He was very experienced and had excellent skills. He was extremely graceful and was quite popular with the female doctors and nurses.
Ever since Chris’ arrival, Jonathan’s popularity in the hospital dropped dramatically. If it hadn’t been for his promotion to dean which afforded him some clout, he would have been long forgotten.
What was even more outrageous was that while Minnie kept ignoring him, she was happily smiling and flirting with Chris. How the f*ck could he tolerate that?
Jonathan tried his best to carry Credence out of the office as he scoffed. “I shouldn’t have to tolerate this! Why should I?!”
Today, he’d take advantage of Credence’s situation to get closer to Minnie. Then, he’d find an opportunity to expose Chris’ true nature and all his secret love affairs. He would nip the problem in the bud.
Chris rushed out of the elevator and picked up Credence from Jonathan’s hold. He shouted at Minnie behind him, “Hurry, head to the operating room and disinfect all the equipment. We need to prepare for an operation immediately.”
Jonathan begrudgingly watched the scene in silence.
Although Chris had a pretty lousy personality and kept very rocky relationships with other men and women in his personal life, he had to admit that he was tremendously professional.
If he wanted to expose his pretentious character, Jonathan would need to think of other methods.
“Okay.”
On the other side of the room, before Minnie got close to him, she had heard Chris’ angry roars, and she immediately entered the elevator.
Seeing this, Jonathan was so angry that steam blew out of his head.
He barely got a good look at her before she disappeared into the elevator. How miserable.
…..
Around 3:30 p. m., Marvin was rushing to the main hospital.
Jonathan was still lingering about in the corridor outside the emergency room. He frowned and continued smoking cigarettes, one after the other to relieve his misery.
The moment Jonathan saw Marvin, he was shocked and bellowed out. “D*mn it! Marv, if you’re here, then who’s checking on Dorothy? She’s still in the operating room, isn’t she?”
