Right after Dorothy finished speaking, she felt her body being pulled by a strong but gentle force. Before she could react, her entire body fell onto Credence’s chest.
With that, he gently pinched her chin and forced her to look at his deep and motionless eyes. She heard his low and gentle voice, “Honey, I can promise you anything, anything but a divorce, I won’t agree to it!”
Dorothy couldn’t understand. He was already in such a sweet relationship with Melanie. Why wouldn’t he want a divorce?
Was she supposed to continue living this life? A life where she’d spent four terrible years of marriage living in pain and sorrow?
Dorothy noticed his gaze turning, and she felt a sharp pain in her heart. She frowned, endured it, and whispered. “Credence, it’s fine if you don’t agree to it right now. As long as we live apart for a year, the court will automatically deem us as divorced. All I have to do is wait for a year, I can do that. Of course, for me, it doesn’t matter, but would Melanie be willing to wait a whole year with you?”
“What does our relationship have anything to do with her?”
Credence’s expressions slowly darkened. He had no idea why this stubborn woman wanted to divorce him. She was set on it too, as though she would commit an unforgivable sin if he didn’t agree.
“Credence, there are some things that can’t be changed. If you’ve done it, then just admit it, don’t make me think less of you.”
Dorothy thought that it was both sad and amusing. He went to Melanie on his own accord, yet he was still asking her what she had to do with them.
Perhaps, in his heart, she had never been important.
That must be why he spoke so carelessly towards her. His words were sharp as if strung with hooks, and they would tear into her heart and make her bleed.
Juelz stood to the side. He was being ignored by the two of them.
He could see that ever since Dorothy noticed Credence, her attention was all on him. His heart hurt as if it were sliced by a knife.
But at this very moment, there was nothing he could say. There wasn’t even anything he could do. He could only watch.
This was because Dorothy wasn’t paying him any attention, all she cared about was Credence.
Germaine quietly left the ward, she reached out and pull Juelz’s arm, indicating for him to leave too. Besides, he wouldn’t be able to do anything by just staying there.
“Humph!”
Juelz snorted and glared at Credence. He endured his anger and followed Germaine out of the ward.
“What do you mean by that?”
Credence lowered his eyes, as his rough and gentle fingers caressed her delicate chin. He stared at her pale face with his piercing eyes. All of a sudden, his hard heart softened as he leaned towards her soft earlobe. He said with a slight chuckle, “Honey, have you misunderstood me? Are you jealous?”
As soon as he said that, he could feel Dorothy’s face turn red, which proves that deep in her heart, she secretly thought the same. She was jealous of Melanie, so much so that she wanted to vent those negative emotions towards him.
How did he never notice that she was such a cute and awkward woman before?
“Who’s jealous? Stop with this nonsense. I’m talking about our divorce. Don’t try to change the subject.”
“Don’t you know why I want a divorce? It was your fault I almost had a miscarriage. Next time, my child could die in your hands.”
Dorothy paused, she reached out to touch her belly with tears in her eyes, “Credence, don’t you know that this child is my only hope of saving Belle? I don’t want anything bad to happen to him. My child’s life is much more important than mine.”
“I’m sorry, honey, I’m sorry!”
He could see the tears streaming down her face. Credence reached out with his hand and placed it on her own that was touching her belly. He let out a deep sigh, “I almost made you lose your child, that was my mistake. I promise I won’t let that happen again.”
“As for Melanie, I never cared for her back in the army, and certainly not now! I think you know this as well.”
Dorothy felt his warmth from his large hands, it was very comforting, and she found herself in an awkward position again.
She withdrew her hands from his palm and wiped the tears from her eyes. She choked and sobbed, “What would I know? How would I know?”
She focused on being angry and venting her rage. She wasn’t aware that from Credence’s point of view, her cheeks were red and she was pouting her lips. She was looking around coyishly. Credence felt a strong sense of desire rising from his heart.
In the past, when she was by his side, she was always restrained and calm. She would try her best to serve him and take care of his daily life including his eating habits. She would listen to all his orders in bed, and she would never get angry at him, nor would she act coquettishly towards him. She was dull and boring, she fulfilled her duty as a wife perfectly, but she was so perfect that she didn’t feel like a real woman at all.
However, at that moment, she was throwing a tantrum, and she was going against him. It made her look vivid and real. She seemed so gentle and lively.
Perhaps, this was her personality. During their four years of marriage, he had completely neglected her. That was why she was so cautious and so unlike herself.
He had missed out on how beautiful she truly was for over a decade!
Credence’s heart skipped a beat. His two strong arms suddenly wrapped around Dorothy’s slender waist. He gently held her in his arms. Then, he lowered his head and kissed her flushed cheeks. He whispered, “Honey, in case you didn’t know, let me tell you the truth.”
“Out of all the women in my life, I only desire you! It doesn’t matter whether it’s Rosalie or Melanie, I don’t find them attractive at all. I don’t desire anyone apart from you.”
As he said these words, his hands started moving.
While Dorothy was in a daze, he held on to her slim hand and he slowly pulled it down along his firm abdomen.
That part of him was bulging.
Even though they were separated by a few layers of clothing and underwear, Dorothy could still feel the hot burning sensation radiating through her palm.
Her body trembled, as she withdrew her hand and supported herself on his chest. She pushed him away, and stared at him, “Credence, can you please be serious?”
He said, “I am very serious.”
He didn’t care. He covered her slender fingers on his chest, and his lips moved along with a wave of emotions in his eyes. “Honey, you’ve slept with me, and you’ve left your mark on me. Did you think you could just leave like that? You will only be mine, only you can be my wife.”
With that, his thin lips leaned down and made their way to her ears. “Honey, do you really want Belle and our unborn child to grow up without a father? As far as I know, children who grow up with a single parent will more or less have various psychological problems. Are you really willing to let Belle and our new child deal with such heavy psychological burdens?”
“I… of course not.”
Dorothy’s face turned green with anger. She bit her lips and pushed him away. “Credence, stop twisting my words.”
“Hush, honey, you haven’t recovered yet. Don’t be so anxious.”
Credence raised his hand to wipe away the tears from her eyes. “I’m not putting any blame on you. I’m just telling you what you’ll have to face after a divorce. Children born and raised with single parents are very pitiful. They rarely ever feel happy. Honey, I hope you’ll reconsider this divorce for the sake of our children.”
“Of course, I promise you that there will no more misunderstandings between us in the future.”
“I accompanied Melanie to celebrate her birthday alone so that I could distract her from acting out against you. Your body can’t take any more accidents. I couldn’t take that risk, I certainly wouldn’t gamble with our child’s life.”
“From now on, I won’t force you to do anything you don’t want to. I will also make sure to talk to you about things before I make any decisions. I will try to change my behavior and be more respectful towards you and your opinions.”
“So, honey, let’s not get divorced, alright?”
