In the hospital, Belle was reading her comics. Dorothy was sitting next to her and reading as well. She would occasionally glance at Germaine. Germaine answered her phone, and her calm face suddenly fumed in anger.
Dorothy was worried and asked. “What happened?”
“No, it’s nothing. It was just a guest of mine, he decided not to book a room for the time being.”
Germaine’s voice sounded urgent as if she was hiding something. She took a few deep breaths and forced a smile. “Dory, Belle, come on. Let’s have one last meal together. After that, I have to go to the airport.”
“What do you mean by last meal? Nonsense.”
Dorothy frowned, as she gently rebuked Germaine. She then turned around and went to the bathroom to change into a long-sleeved knitted dress.
She then helped Belle change into a beautiful sports suit. After that, she held Belle’s hands and left the ward with Germaine.
…
As soon as Germaine got out of the car, she spotted two familiar-looking men standing in front of the restaurant. One of them had a lazy-looking figure. He stood there smoking a cigarette. When he saw Germaine, who was in a red dress, standing next to Dorothy, his face had a quick flash of joy and disappeared in an instant.
Germaine concealed the panic and fear in her heart. She lowered her head and pretended to not notice anything. She only tightened her grip on her leather bag. She used so much force that the tip of her fingers turned white.
Halfway through their walk, Belle suddenly pulled Dorothy’s wrist. “Mommy, my butterfly hairband is in the car.”
Dorothy looked down, and sure enough, there was only a black hair tie on Belle’s head.
Dorothy turned around and smiled apologetically at Germaine. “Germaine, you should go ahead. I’ll take Belle to the car and search for it.”
Dorothy held Belle’s hands and trotted towards the car.
“Wait for me, I’ll go too!”
Just as Germaine was about to follow her, the familiar yet terrifying voice of the man called out to her from behind.
“Germaine!”
Jeremy took a few steps forward. His black shirt wrapped tightly around his muscles. As he walked over, smoke billowed from his mouth. He narrowed his eyes, and spoke with a smile, “You’re back.”
Germaine took a deep breath and slowly turned around to face Jeremy. When she saw the sneer on his lips, her face instantly froze.
She was still scared of how violent he was the other night. The pain of her entire body being whipped hard by countless thorns still lingered in her mind. It took her a great deal of effort to steady herself. As she looked into his eyes, she tried her best to keep calm. Then, she said stiffly, “Go away, don’t f*cking block my way!”
After being cursed by her, Jeremy didn’t get angry. Instead, he looked deep into her eyes. He squinted, a lot of indescribable emotions could be seen in his eyes, “Germaine, it’s fine if you want to scold me. Call me anything you want, scold me however much you want to, it doesn’t matter, as long as you are happy.”
So long as she was back to the same old arrogant Germaine of the Sherman family, he’d be willing to do anything. Even if he were to die in hell!
“Mr. Sherman, I did not expect you to be so self-aware. Congratulations.”
Germaine’s eyebrows twitched. It was because of Jeremy’s provocative and flirty words, they moved her heart. She could hardly control herself, all she wanted to do was run away.
This man has been a vicious person she couldn’t stand from the very beginning. She must have been so blind. How else could she have decided to fall in love with him and give him her heart and soul?
He was a violent and vicious man. He would be ruthless towards the entire Sherman family. He was so cruel he would torture women. Why did she love him so deeply?
How ashamed she was for begging him to marry her and for her to want to have his children. She was really stupid back then.
So from that night onward, she would never do that again. She would never keep this unworthy man in her heart or think about him night and day anymore.
He did not deserve her love!
What the f*ck, women were bound to meet a few scumbags when they were young, weren’t they?
Jeremy was relaxed and had a lazy, evil look but when he heard Germaine address him as “Mr. Sherman”, his body stiffened. It was as if he had been struck by lightning.
The cigarette between his lips remained motionless for a few seconds. He stared at her and couldn’t help but sneer. “Germaine, you’ve been in Lenolie City for half a month. It’s time to come back.”
“I’ve done something bad to you, and it’s fine if you can’t forgive me. But, you’re an adult now. You should know what you can or can’t do. Do you know what kind of place Lenolie City is? Acts of adultery are happening every second. The men and women there only know how to have s*x. It would be extremely hard for you to find a man there.”
“I also know that you’ve booked a ticket to Lenolie City. However, I not letting you go to that wretched place.”
“You know very well what I’m capable of. If I don’t want you to go, then you won’t be.”
He said so much, and he looked tired of talking. He lazily raised his eyebrows revealing his deep, evil eyes. In them, there was a complicated web of complicated emotions that no one would understand.
Germaine did not expect him to be so shameless and despicable ever since she broke off all contact with him. She was so angry at him her face turned extremely gloomy. She shouted at him, “Jeremy, why won’t you just let me f*cking go? Why?”
Hearing that, Jeremy’s eyes darkened, he calmly placed a cigarette between his lips, and he didn’t respond.
Knowing Germaine, the angrier she got, the less likely he could provoke a reaction out of her. Otherwise, she’d behave like an angry kitten. She’d stretch out her sharp claws and scratch his face until he bled.
Wilson was behind Jeremy remaining silent, he was keeping a low profile. He saw the situation between Germaine and Jeremy progressively getting worse. Even though he felt that his boss talked like a fool, as a conscientious assistant, he didn’t want his boss to lead a lonely life. Therefore, he hurried over to Germaine, bowed respectfully, and smiled. “Miss Germaine, please don’t be angry. My boss has no ulterior motives. It’s just been so long since he’s seen you in person. He’s just really excited!”
“Go away, you two are the same, good-for-nothing b*stards. You’re both horrible people.”
Germaine snorted condescendingly, she then turned around and smiled at Dorothy and Belle, “Dory, Belle, let’s go inside.”
Belle found her butterfly hairband, as she chattered happily, “Godmother, wait for me. I want to walk with you and Mommy.”
“Okay.”
Dorothy nodded with a smile. She took Belle’s hand and walked into the restaurant with Germaine beside her.
Out of the corner of her eye, she felt the presence of two familiar men standing next to her. Dorothy turned her head and carefully looked at them. She was so scared, her hands were trembling. She whispered to Germaine, “Why are Jeremy and Wilson here? Did he do anything to you while Belle and I weren’t around?”
Germaine shook her head, “No, he wouldn’t dare do anything to me now. Dory, trust me, leaving him was the best thing for me. He can’t hurt me ever again.”
“Germaine, he is a dangerous man. As your best friend, I’d advise you to break all ties with him as soon as possible. However, no one can be sure about anyone’s relationship. All in all, it doesn’t matter what choice you make in the end. I will always support you.”
She smiled and sighed to herself.
She had just returned to the car with Belle to look for her accessory. However, in that short span of time, Germaine was so furious it looked like smoke was coming out of her head. It was obvious that Jeremy still greatly affected Germaine.
From the looks of it, did Germaine really give up on Jeremy? Did she really give up on loving him?
Who would believe that?
Not her, that was for sure.
Seeing Dorothy coming closer as she held Belle’s hands, Jeremy continued to smoke his cigarette, he remained silent. It was only Wilson, who had a mischievous look on his face. He shouted. “Mrs. Scott, hurry up to the second floor. The show is just about to start!”
“Germaine, what kind of wonderful show is going on on the second floor? How strange, I have an odd feeling that isn’t what he actually means, and it’s obviously directed at me. What does he mean…”
Before she could finish her words, Dorothy was already standing at the entrance of the corridor. Through an unlatched door, she saw a couple in a deep embrace, they were holding each other and kissing. Her words came to an abrupt end.
