Chapter 369 There’s A First Time For Everything

After hearing Credence’s order, Benjamin was shocked. He asked, “Mr. Scott, we are already at the hospital. Don’t you want to see Mrs. Scott?”
“There’s no need! Right now, the person she doesn’t want to see most is me.”
Credence gave him a cold look, then adjusted his collar with his slender fingers. He said calmly, “Besides, with Melanie hanging on to me, it’ll only be safer for Dorothy if I keep my distance.”
Did that mean he was willing to let Juelz, the man with bad intentions, linger around Dorothy all day long?
Benjamin silently complained in his heart. He did not make any sound and immediately started the car. He turned the car around and slowly drove out of the alley.
When the Maybach stopped at a red light, Benjamin secretly glanced at Credence through the rearview mirror. Credence was expressionless, but his brows were furrowed, and he looked unhappy.
What did this indicate?
It meant that Mr. Scott was not as calm as he seemed to be.
He heard that Juelz had quite a number of shares in the hospital that Mrs. Scott was situated at.
In other words, as long as Juelz wanted to, he could accompany Mrs. Scott every second. He could even accompany her late at night, and it would even be deemed as reasonable.
That’s right!
Mrs. Scott was being taken care of by another man. How could Mr. Scott be happy?
Credence was scanning through a document. Suddenly, he sensed Benjamin looking at him from time to time. He frowned and asked, “What is it?”
Benjamin could tell that he was in a very bad mood, but as his diligent assistant, he still spoke out the thoughts that hovered in his mind.
“Mr. Scott, with Mrs. Scott’s personality, you can rest assured. However, as for Juelz, he has been preying on her for a long time. Are you really going to his care for Mrs. Scott?”
“All and all, the main reason why Mrs. Scott met with such a serious accident was because of me, I was not careful enough. Why don’t I take care of her?”
“No need.”
Credence narrowed his eyes and remained silent for a moment. It was hard to tell what he was thinking. “If anything were to happen between the two of them, it would’ve happened a long time ago!”
“From now onwards, I’m going to try putting myself in Dorothy’s shoes and thinking things over from her perspective instead of forcing my will onto her in the name of treating her well. I no longer want to do things like that without a care for her feelings.”
This was the first time Credence told Benjamin about his real feelings. He did not feel embarrassed at all even after saying it.
There was a first time for everything.
He was over 30 years old, but he never had a normal relationship with any woman before. Therefore, he did not know the best way to delight Dorothy and make her change her mind.
However, he knew all too well how stubborn she was.
If he insisted on taking her away, then she’d probably be extremely cold towards him for the rest of her life.
She might still look and feel gentle and calm on the surface, but inside her soft body were tough and hard bones.
Forcing her would only make her distance herself more from him.
Hence, after learning that she had given up on him and was willing to accept Juelz’s help, even though Credence was so angry that he wanted to explode, he still controlled the anger in his heart. He did not rush into the hospital to forcefully take Dorothy and Belle away. Instead, he sat in his car and silently looked through the window of the ward where she was staying. He tried to imagine her current mood and appearance.
Though he didn’t lay eyes on her, imagining her gentle, beautiful appearance at a location closest to her was enough for him.
This was also the first time Benjamin had seen the emotional side of his boss. After being shocked for some time, he slowly came to his senses and said in a low voice, “Mr. Scott, since you are able to think it through so thoroughly, Mrs. Scott will definitely be very happy.”
After saying that, he felt a surge of regret rising from his heart.
If Mr. Scott had realized this six years ago, would he and Mrs. Scott’s relationship be better?
However, Credence did not say anything. He changed the topic to their private detective. He asked coldly, “Is there any latest news from Victor?”
“No.” Benjamin frowned and thought about it for a few seconds, then he shook his head. “He called me last week. He said that his investigation was held back by some secret force, and it has become very difficult to investigate. But the harder it is, the braver he would be. He vowed to find out the truth, and I just reminded him to be careful.”
“If there’s someone trying to stop him from finding out the truth, then there has to be something that they don’t want us to know.”
Credence narrowed his eyes and massaged his temples with his slender fingers, his brows remaining furrowed. “Call Victor later and tell him to go ahead with it. We might even be able to find out the truth of my mother’s death.”
“Okay, Mr. Scott.”
Benjamin answered seriously. When the lights on the other side turned green, he stepped on the accelerator. The car shot out like an arrow being released from its bow.

On the hospital bed, Dorothy drifted in and out of sleep, never truly falling asleep.
She clearly knew that she was the only one in the ward, but she kept having a vague feeling that there was a soft and deep gaze on her for some reason.
This quickly woke her up from her drowsiness. She suddenly opened her eyes and scanned the surroundings of the ward.
After looking around, Dorothy did not find anything wrong. She unfurled her brows and secretly laughed at herself for being too nervous and sensitive.
Since she and Credence had already reached such an unhappy state, how could he come and visit her without considering their past conflicts?
Juelz pushed the door open and walked in. He walked towards the bed and saw how pale and dry Dorothy’s lips were. He poured her a cup of warm water and brought it close to her lips, indicating for her to drink some water.
Dorothy was very thirsty, thus she did not refuse. She opened her mouth and drank half a cup of water. After that, she gave Juelz a look which indicated for him to take the cup away. She then smiled at him and said, “Thank you.”
“Don’t be so polite with me. If you are too polite, I would think that you aren’t treating me as your best friend at all.”
After that, he put the teacup back on the table and turned back to look at Dorothy. She looked a little depressed. He asked with concern, “Dory, what’s wrong?”
“Juelz, is there any way that anyone can come into my room without having to go through the main entrance?”
She asked because the previous hospital she was in had connected wards everywhere.
With Credence’s cautiousness, the reason for the various connections in the ward was for her to have another exit when danger was arriving.
“No.” Juelz narrowed his eyes and asked in a low voice, “Dory, what happened?”
“It’s nothing! It’s just that when I was asleep, I kept having the feeling that someone was staring at me. But when I woke up, I looked around and found nothing out of the blue. Perhaps I was too anxious.” Dorothy shook her head with a smile.
However, Juelz did not think that way.
He quickly turned and headed to the window, opening it wider. His gaze shot towards the alley right in front of them.
There, he saw a black Maybach speeding away silently, and he could vaguely see that the car plate number ended in four nines.
In all of Talco City, the only person who had such a number plate was Credence.
Juelz secretly clenched his fists and thought to himself how quickly Credence had come. However, why hadn’t he come up to see Dory since he was already here?
Suddenly, when he heard Dorothy asking him what he was looking at, Juelz raised his hand and wiped his face. When his face returned to normal, he turned around and walked towards Dorothy. He raised an eyebrow at her cheekily and said, “It was nothing. I saw a pure white poodle. It looked similar to the one we had in Monticello.”
As for Credence arriving and leaving in silence, he decided to pretend it never happened.
As a rival in love, he would never let Dory get a good impression of Credence unless he’d lost his mind.
Over the next ten days, Juelz spent every waking moment in Dorothy’s ward, taking great care of her.
At this noon, Dorothy felt like she was doing much better and didn’t want to trouble Juelz to care for her personally anymore. She kicked him out of the ward to head back to the company and attend to his matters.
If she continued to let him take care of her like this, then his company might collapse because of her. If that really happened, she would feel even more guilty.
“Alright, alright, Dory, stop nagging me. I’ll leave, I’m really leaving.”
Juelz was no match for her obstinacy, so he could only pretend to be unhappy as he left.
Dorothy felt really helpless towards his occasional childish behavior. She secretly laughed to herself for a while before going next door to check on Belle. She found her deeply asleep, her hand still clutching at a comic.
Dorothy laughed, then reached out and pulled the comic out of Belle’s hand. She sat down next to the bed and slowly started reading it.
At this moment, she heard the sound of high heels clacking on the tiled floor. The footsteps were getting closer and closer, as if it were coming for her.
The next second, the half-closed door was pushed opened from the outside, and a slender figure swiftly approached her from afar.
