Credence’s steady voice was like an antidote to Dorothy’s craze. It shot into her guilt-ridded mind and calmed her down.
She raised her head dazedly, tears in her eyes. “Credence, you’re here. Help me save Germaine, please? She’s… Rosalie’s going to strangle her to death.”
“If I hadn’t been in the hospital, Rosalie wouldn’t have taken Germaine hostage, and she wouldn’t have died!”
“It’s all my fault. All of this is my fault. I am the cause of Germaine’s death!”
At this, Credence frowned. He was worried to hear how Dorothy was blaming herself for everything, and he tightened his arms around her. “Shh, don’t cry. Germaine will be fine with me around!”
He held her in his arms, sighing almost imperceptibly. He lowered his head and kissed her eyes. “Dorothy, I’m here.”
Dorothy leaned against his chest and felt the warmth on her eyelids. She held her breath and she slowly came back to her senses. She muttered, “Credence, why are you here? You were injured so badly. You just had a major operation and your internal organs are severely injured. If you have any consequences because of this, I will feel guilty for the rest of my life.”
At this moment, Dorothy was as fragile as a newborn baby, and Credence’s heart ached for her.
“Don’t be silly. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. How could I let anything happen to myself? Don’t worry. I know my body well.”
Credence raised his hands to wipe off the cold sweat on Dorothy’s forehead. He comforted her in a gentle voice until she gradually calmed down and returned to normal. After that, he took her hand and walked over to Germaine, who was lying on the cold floor unconsciously.
Credence bent down and placed his index finger on the artery on her neck. He felt an extremely weak heartbeat and let out a slight sigh of relief. He nodded at Dorothy, who had also crouched down and said, “Don’t worry, she can still be saved.”
As he said that, Credence took out his mobile phone and called Benjamin. He asked him to inform the hospital to immediately come over to rescue Germaine.
However, he did not tell the malicious and capricious Jeremy about it.
“That’s great! Thank God.” Dorothy was so happy that she cried. A little colour returned to her ashen face.
Credence couldn’t help wrapping his arms around her and pressing his lips to hers at the sight of her pink cheeks and joyful eyes.
Dorothy clung to him, a sense of security washing over her. She returned his kiss passionately without a care for any spectators.
Only by feeling his warm body temperature could she feel at ease.
Rosalie was stuck in the cubicle. Her heart felt like it’d been stabbed at the sight of their passionate kiss.
“Credence, why are you so cruel to me? Why?”
Rosalie’s broken cries showed her extreme unwillingness and pain.
Two of her ribs were broken, and she couldn’t move herself freely. She had no choice but to watch the two of them acting tenderly with each other. The jealousy ate at her.
D*mn Dorothy, d*mn that b*tch!
Aside from her appearance, Dorothy was no match for her in terms of her knowledge and status!
Why was it that Credence could never see the good in her?
Why was it that after everything that had happened, Credence still loved Dorothy like that? Why was Credence so unwilling to leave Dorothy?
The same thing happened six years ago, and now, the same thing was happening six years later!
Credence didn’t take things too far in consideration of Dorothy’s unstable mood.
However, when he heard Rosalie’s angered screeches, he turned to look at her coldly without saying anything.
To him, Rosalie was as good as dead.
And a dead person was not qualified to talk to him.
Rosalie sensed the Credence’s thoughts. She lifted her head up with pain, trying to make herself look less disheveled. She sneered, “Credence, I really regret giving Dorothy the chance to meet you during my eighteenth birthday party.”
“If she hadn’t gotten to know you then, she wouldn’t have had the chance to marry you, nor give you a child!”
“Because I am the only woman who would be able to marry you!”
“If that was the case, I wouldn’t have to resort to such lowly means to get you, and I wouldn’t have to spend my life in regret and unwillingness. I’m nothing but a shadow of my former self!”
“Rosalie, you are wrong. I didn’t first meet Credence when I attended your birthday party.”
Dorothy grabbed Credence’s arm and turned him so that they could face Rosalie together. “On my sixteenth birthday, your parents, my adoptive parents tricked me into a private room at a bar, saying that they had a surprise for me. Yet they’d lied. They wanted to hand me over to a bunch of men, trying to reap as many benefits as they could by using my body.”
“Back then, I hid in the bathroom and thought that it was impossible to escape. Credence suddenly came out of nowhere and saved me from that hell. He also arranged for his assistant, Benjamin to send me to the hospital to clean up the bruises on my body.”
“Rosalie, when I was sixteen, you weren’t too young to understand what was going on. I don’t believe that you were completely oblivious to their plans. Yet, you didn’t say a thing, and I bet you were looking forward to watching me fall prey to a bunch of greasy, old men, weren’t you?”
“You’ve always been a cruel, malicious person, even at a young age. How could someone like you be a good match for Credence?”
Dorothy panted a little from speaking too quickly. She paused for a few seconds, then continued, “Rosalie, he deserves someone much better than you, for instance, me!”
“Dorothy, you’re a shameless hussy! If it weren’t for you pulling tricks and getting into Credence’s bed, do you think he’d marry you?”
Rosalie shrieked with all her might. She looked up, but saw that Credence was completely focused on Dorothy. His face had a tender look, and he watched her dotingly.
The tenderness in his eyes as well as Dorothy’s speech made Rosalie’s heart wrench. Her hatred reached its peak.
It wasn’t like that.
It wasn’t!
How could an orphan like Dorothy possibly hold the heart of the most powerful man in Talco City?
Dorothy could only act so arrogantly because she’d given birth to that sickly daughter for Credence. She was being buoyed by Credence’s love for her daughter.
Who gave this b*tch the right to act so arrogantly?
At this, Rosalie’s eyes turned cold. She held her head up high, staring right at Dorothy and Credence. “Credence, Dorothy, you’ve been wasting time chatting with me here. Did the thought of your beloved daughter even cross your mind?”
