Dorothy slowly bent down towards Credence and pressed her cheek to his. Cold tears streamed down his gaunt face, and slowly trickled into Credence’s mouth.
The taste of her tears were slightly different from seawater. While it was salty, there was a bitter note to it. Her tears slowly entered Credence’s throat and flowed into his stomach. This stimulated him to move his fingers.
When she saw Credence move his index finger, Dorothy’s heart began to beat wildly in her chest. With tears in her eyes, she let out a weak smile and looked at him in surprise. “Credence, are you awake?” She asked softly.
If he had really woken up, she would be ecstatic, even more so than if she’d won the lottery.
Credence slowly blinked open his eyes and noticed that Dorothy’s red and swollen eyes were looking at him with joy. There were obvious dark circles under her tear-filled eyes.
He knew it was his fault. He had made her sad once more.
“Dorothy, don’t cry. I’m fine.”
As soon as he opened his mouth to speak, there was a sharp throbbing pain in his head. He could not help but cough violently. His entire body shook, shaking the entire bed.
When Dorothy saw this, she began to cry harder. She hurriedly reached out and gently patted chest, “Don’t talk anymore, Credence. Just rest and let me do the talking. All you have to do is listen.”
Credence’s eyes turned gentle when he heard. He really wanted to hold her hand in his and pull her into his embrace. He wanted to tell her how much he cared about her.
However, his ribs seemed to be broken, and his internal organs were probably injured. He felt a stinging pain in his heart and felt a stinging pain in his brain.
Whenever he breathed, he would feel immense pain. At times, he would be in so much pain that he wanted to die.
He was afraid that Dorothy would worry about him, so he could only brace the pain and look at her with his deep gaze.
Even when the two of them were not talking, they could understand each other with a glance.
“Credence, do you still remember? In the second year of our marriage, the holidays had just ended and you had to go to the office. However, I had food poisoning on that day, and I was rolling around in pain on the bed.”
“When Maria saw me like that, she hurriedly told you about it. At that time, you were already about to leave, but you still sent me to one of Jonathan’s hospitals, albeit feeling upset. You even arranged the best doctor for me.”
“Back then, I thought that maybe you didn’t hate me as much as you did, am I right?”
“You’re right.”
Credence replied, smiling as he did. He nodded his head and calmly admitted to it.
The handsome smile on his face made Dorothy’s face flush. She could not help but clench her fists and lightly placed one of her hands on his arm. She hit him playfully and teased, “Credence, you’ve always been so outwardly cold but inwardly caring. That is a classic trait of a Capricorn!”
“We’re husband and wife. You should have just told me whatever was on your mind!”
“But you’ve always chosen to keep everything to yourself. How would I know what you’re thinking?”
When she was at her worst, she’d managed to make it through solely by remembering all the small things that he’d done for her.
She’d hoped that he would finally notice her sincerity and love for him as time passed.
Who would have thought that the two of them would have so many misunderstandings between them? In the end, they only managed to understand each other six years after their divorce.
Even so, it was better late than never.
“Baby, I’m sorry. I promise not to make you shed tears anymore in the future.”
Of course, Credence would never admit that the reason he brought her to the hospital last time was because he couldn’t bear to leave her beautiful body.
If something really did happen to her, where else would he find another woman who could arouse him?
After all, her body was just his type. It was as if they were made for each other.
Apart from her, he was not interested in any other woman.
Even if those women were a thousand times more obedient and seductive than Dorothy, it couldn’t arouse him.
For the sake of his sexual satisfaction, he reluctantly took care of her that one time.
However, he did not expect her to remember such a small instance. It turned out that she did not have much expectations, and she was someone who could be satisfied easily.
“You’re the one who said it yourself, you have to keep your promise!”
When Dorothy said this, she smiled coyly, making her look absolutely charming. She looked so beautiful that he could not take his eyes off of her.
Credence’s gaze was soft as it was fixed on her for a long time. The warmth and happiness that could not be described in words radiated through his eyes.
At that moment, he noticed that Dorothy’s lips looked dry and cracked, but she was still talking. Credence could not help but frown.
He endured his labored breathing, his eyes filled with heartache for her pain. He said to her gently, “Go and have a drink before continuing to talk.”
“Alright.”
Dorothy nodded. She did feel a little parched. She picked up the glass on the bedside table and drank the water in it.
After she finished drinking it, she turned towards Credence and asked in a low voice, “Are you thirsty? Do you want me to feed you some?”
Then, she noticed that his fiery, unblinking gaze was focused on her lips.
“What is it?”
Under Credence’s intense stare, Dorothy could not help but stretch out her hand to wipe the corners of her mouth. “Is there something on my lips?”
“No.”
He stared at her rosy lips, and fire burned in his heart. It gradually morphed into gentleness, which showed in his eyes. He licked his thin lips and coaxed her, “Dorothy, I’m thirsty. Come and feed me some water.”
“Oh, sure. Hold on for a moment.”
Dorothy did not know what he truly meant by that. She thought that Credence was simply thirsty. She quickly picked up the electric kettle and poured half a glass of water into the teacup. After that, she went to his bedside and carefully sat him up by putting a pillow behind his back. She then put the edge of the teacup to his mouth, and motioned for him to drink.
Credence knew she did not understand what he really meant. With a bitter smile, he began to protest, “This wasn’t what I meant.”
“Oh? Then what did you mean?” Dorothy asked in confusion.
Dorothy was getting more and more mystified by his thoughts now that he’d woken up from his surgery.
“Come closer, I’ll show you.”
When Credence saw her bewilderment, he knew that she was more innocent and naive than any other woman out there. He could no longer suppress his emotions and bent down to press his lips against hers.
When she felt his tongue licking at her lips, Dorothy blushed. Certain images flashed in her mind.
She moaned.
Her lips seemed to be burning, and Dorothy’s body turned to jelly. “You… you’re still injured, we… we can’t!”
