Chapter 299 A Tough Choice

In the ward.
Dorothy was in a good mood after finding out that she was pregnant. Her smile never faded.
She’d just had lunch with Belle and noticed that she was nodding off adorably.
Dorothy’s smile grew bigger and she almost laughed out loud. She got out of bed and picked Belle up from her high chair, then placed her on the bed and carefully covered her with a thin blanket.
Belle was obviously sleepy, but she forced her eyes to stay open and looked at Dorothy. “Mommy, Daddy’s a bad guy. He hasn’t come to see me for a long time. If he still doesn’t come see me, I’m going to forget what he looks like.”
Dorothy was taken aback. She looked into Belle’s big, blue eyes and saw that they were filled with reliance and longing for Credence. Her heart melted, and she caressed Belle’s face and comforted her with a smile, “Daddy’s been pretty busy with work lately. Once he’s done with his work, he’ll definitely come see you everyday and bring you lots and lots of delicious food and nice presents.”
At the word ‘delicious’, Belle let out a surprised cry. “Mommy, tell Daddy that I want to eat hamburgers, ice cream, fries and drink soft drinks. Since he’s handsome, I’ll forgive him if he brings me all of this!”
Dorothy couldn’t bear to upset her, who was evidently excited. She nodded and said, “Okay, once Daddy is done with work, I’ll let him know.”
Belle exclaimed excitedly, “Wow, long live Mommy. Long live Daddy!”
Belle licked her lips excitedly, as if all the food that she desired was already in front of her. She looked like she was going to faint from happiness.
Dorothy looked at her with a smile, but she also took pity on Belle. She was almost six years old, but because of her poor health, she had rarely ever eaten those snacks.
Fortunately, Dorothy had just had an ultrasound done and she was most definitely pregnant. Once she was twenty weeks pregnant, they could extract blood from the umbilical cord to completely cure Belle’s leukemia.
Once Belle was better, she could eat as much as she wanted. She wouldn’t need to dream of having these snacks so pitifully.
Dorothy was still worried about Credence. About 10 minutes after Belle fell asleep, Dorothy, feeling that she didn’t need to stay in bed, decided to ask Juelz to watch over Belle for a while.
After she was forcibly taken to the abandoned warehouse by Hugo, she lost her cell phone.
Either it was lost somewhere on her way to the warehouse, or Hugo had taken it away. In the end, without her phone, she could not get in touch with anyone.
It seemed that she needed to buy a new mobile phone in a shopping mall nearby.
As soon as Dorothy opened the door, she collided with Germaine who was rushing in from outside. Germaine’s face looked strange. It was gloomy, without its usual sunshine-like warmth and vitality.
This was the first time Dorothy had seen Germaine as if she had lost all life on her face. She looked lifeless, like she had lost her spirits.
Even back Jenciga, when she’d been r*ped in the process of protecting Belle, she hadn’t had such a look of despair on her face.
Dorothy’s heart skipped a beat. She frowned and looked at the haggard woman in front of her. She asked her, “Germaine, what, what happened to you?”
She helped Germaine to the living area in the ward and sat her down on the sofa, then handed her a glass of water.
Germaine shook her head. She didn’t drink the water, and looked up to meet Dorothy’s worried gaze. Her brows were furrowed, and her eyes were burning with rage. “Dory, tell me the truth. Did Hugo kidnapping and almost r*ping you have anything to do with Jeremy?”
Dorothy was shocked to hear that. “How did you know?”
The moment she said that, she knew she’d said the wrong thing.
Wasn’t she just admitting that Jeremy was the mastermind behind this attack?
“So it really was him! Juelz told me, and I received the video as well.”
As someone whose brains weren’t too bad, Germaine quickly grasped the situation, and her rage burned, turning her eyes red. “D*mn him! That b*stard knew that you’re my best friend, yet he still treated you like that?”
“Dory, do you think he’s lost his mind? What if Hugo really had gotten his way? He would’ve ruined the rest of your life!”
“He is absolutely not showing me any love or respect.”
“Since he can be so cruel to you, one day, he can surely be that merciless towards me as well!”
“Dory, I’m really scared. I’m afraid that he’s turning into a Jeremy that I don’t know anymore.”
Germaine was in a rush when she came here, and she’d accidentally broken a fingernail when she was closing the door. It was now bleeding slightly.
At this moment, she gritted her teeth and ripped the nail off, as if it were Jeremy’s head. She didn’t seem to feel any pain.
Germaine’s seemingly self-abusive actions made Dorothy’s eyes flashed. She put the glass of water in Germaine’s hands and sighed. “Germaine, Jeremy isn’t the only one involved in Hugo kidnapping me. Juelz was involved as well.”
“My intuition tells me that Jeremy’s target wasn’t me. He mainly wanted to use me to get at Credence, but I don’t know what is it that he has against Credence.”
Germaine sneered. “Even if Credence did something to offend him, he shouldn’t have come after you! He should have just gone after Credence like a man.”
Dorothy was angry at Jeremy’s behaviour, but when she thought of Germaine’s feelings for him, she didn’t want her to have to make the tough decision of having to choose between her best friend and the man she loved. She exhaled and changed the topic. “Germaine, I, I lost my phone. I need to borrow yours for a short while.”
Germaine nodded and took out a phone from her red bag. She passed it to Dorothy and said, “This is my spare phone. You use it for now.”
“Okay.”
Dorothy took it with the intention of calling Jonathan or Marvin to ask about Credence. However, she noticed that there was only one number saved in the contact list, which was Jeremy’s number. This showed that this was Germaine’s private number, and it also showed just how important he was to Germaine.
However, no one knew about Jeremy’s real thoughts apart from himself.
Dorothy’s face darkened, and she gestured towards to Germaine not to speak. Deciding that Jonathan was probably easier to speak to, she quickly called him.
Due to the uniqueness of Marvin’s job nature, he probably wouldn’t answer an unfamiliar number.
Therefore, she called Jonathan instead. He was a lively person, and he liked to make friends. It was more likely that he’d answer the phone.
Sure enough, the line was quickly connected. At Dorothy’s question, Jonathan sighed deeply and said hoarsely, “Dorothy, Credence might not make it through. His body…. it’s doing really badly! If you have the time, you should come and see him. Make use of every remaining moment.”
At this, Dorothy’s heart turned ice cold, and her eyes immediately lost their light.
