“Credence, what exactly are you trying to tell me?”
Credence’s words baffled Dorothy and her heart squeezed a little out of unease.
However, she was more concerned about his injuries.
She squatted down to slowly and carefully roll up his trouser leg. More and more blood ooze out, nearly staining the bandage completely red.
Dorothy’s eyes turned red at the sight. She wrapped her trembling fingers around his injured leg and gently caressed it while tears inadvertently welled up in her eyes. She raised her head to look at him before saying in a hoarse tone softly, “Alright, Credence, I’m ready for the truth. Please tell me.”
Credence’s body trembled violently at that.
She had actually taken the initiative to touch him. Her fingers gradually tightened around his leg and he could feel her gentle caress through the thick bandage.
She had always treated him gently and had given him all of her heart and it took him a whole decade to finally understand how great she was.
Credence was lost in his thoughts for a long while. Eventually, he squatted down, grabbed the beautiful woman on her waist, and pulled her into his arms tightly. The embrace was so tight, Dorothy could hardly breathe. It wasn’t until she was gasping for air that he finally loosened his hug.
He buried his head in her soft shoulder. She could feel his warm but messy breath on her earlobe. “Dorothy, I just received a piece of information about your birth. It’s not a good one, I might even go a step further and say it’s horrible.” He said.
“Listen, Baby, no matter what, you’re the best woman in the world in my eyes! So, your birth has nothing to do with who you are. After all, no one can choose the family they’re born into.”
At that time, Benjamin and Ivana rushed over to help Credence and they managed to catch those stalkers with one fell swoop.
In exchange for their lives, the mercenaries negotiated to reveal all the information they had gotten from Rosalie, including Dorothy’s birth.
When Credence learned of Dorothy’s mysterious birth, especially how dark it was, he decided to be ruthless and kill the mercenaries so that this prejudicial information would not spread.
When they realized they would still be killed despite having told Credence everything they knew, they chose to fight to the end. They even took out machine guns and a bomb…
Credence was hit with a blast wave and shrapnel as the bomb exploded. The worst injury was on his leg; a big chunk of flesh was taken out.
Benjamin and Ivana also suffered minor injuries and got sent to the hospital to get treated.
At that time, Credence fainted due to excessive blood loss. He did not know how long he would be passed out, so in order not to let Dorothy worry, he asked Benjamin to call and inform her that there was an urgent matter in the company that required him to be out of town for a few days before he fainted.
After the call, Credence asked Benjamin to switch off his phone. As for his phone, it had long been dead.
This was why Dorothy couldn’t get through to them no matter how hard she tried calling.
To everybody’s surprise, Credence was able to recover rather speedily after the surgery and woke up in just six hours.
Jonathan was so elated that he called Dorothy before Credence could even stop him.
However, he thought that perhaps it was a good thing that Jonathan had done so. She had the right to know after all.
Dorothy couldn’t understand what Credence was rambling about, all she felt was that his breathing was messy and it made her heart pound. But his last sentence made her heart drop.
She slightly moved her body and leaned her forehead on the man’s stubbly chin. She took a deep breath and asked him slowly, “Tell me, what did you find out?”
He tilted his head to look at Dorothy and was met with her clear water-like gaze. There was a look of hesitation and reluctance in his eyes as he looked back at her.
After staring for a long while, she was finally able to discern the complicated emotions brewing in his eyes.
Perhaps because the wound was hurting him a lot, he quivered unwittingly even when he tried his best to hide the pain. It resulted in her quivering along as well.
Just as he was about to fall back, Dorothy came to her senses and hurriedly guided him to the hospital bed, and carefully laid his legs down. When she saw his pale face and heavy breathing, she quickly reached for the nurse call button.
However, in the next second, the man gently grabbed her hand, preventing her from calling a nurse over.
When she withdrew her arm, she accidentally pulled his bleeding wound. His leg twitched from the pain but he endured it and didn’t make a sound.
He stared at her with a smile and said, “Dorothy, you’re really beautiful.”
As Jonathan would put it, ‘She is like a siren’.
Jonathan was merely joking back then, but now, his words had become the truth.
It turned out that Dorothy’s biological mother was Leilani, one of the most beautiful socialites in the entertainment circle. No wonder Dorothy was alluring.
For many years, Leilani was like a butterfly lingering around fat, greasy-looking, rich, old men. The number of her horrendous gossip was far more than her work. But no one would ever associate Dorothy with such a notorious woman.
Everyone from the upper class disdained a sl*t like her from the bottom of their hearts.
However, when Credence compared Leilani’s photo with Dorothy, his doubts disappeared instantly.
Anyone with working eyes could tell that Dorothy looked almost identical to her mother. They both had delicate and gentle facial features. However, Leilani looked more arrogant, and her smile was malicious. Anyone could tell she was a t*amp just by one look.
Even if Credence wanted to deny it, he could not.
After a long silence, Credence suddenly reached his hand out to cover her nervous eyes and said in a hoarse voice, “Dorothy, your mother is Madam Leilani from the entertainment circle, and her current reputation is horrible.”
For many years, whenever Dorothy was tortured by Caleb, Linda, and Rosalie in the Fisher family, she always wondered what kind of person her birth parents were. How could they be so cruel as to abandon her in a welfare home after giving birth to her?
When she was fifteen, Caleb had gotten drunk and pushed her head into the fish tank as he scolded her with nasty words.
If Linda hadn’t been thinking of using Dorothy’s beauty to gain favors for the Fisher family, she knew that she would have been drowned by her foster father back then.
After that, as her disappointment and despair grew day by day, she had long given up on the thought of receiving familial love.
Even the word ‘mother’ had become ambiguous to her.
Now when Credence told that her mother was the famous Leilani Chilton, Dorothy’s first reaction was disbelief. She thought he was joking with her.
“Credence, is this a joke? It’s not April Fool’s today, this joke isn’t funny at all!”
