The ward was not small, so Dorothy could hear her own voice echo back. However, she did not hear the man’s response.
She walked through the brightly lit ward towards the hospital bed. There was only a messy quilt on the bed, but there was no one in sight.
Just then, she heard the soft sound of water flushing.
Dorothy turned around and saw that the sound was coming from behind the half-closed bathroom door. Through the narrow gap, she could see a man’s figure. His back was faced towards her and she could faintly hear the sound of ceramics hitting against each other.
After a while, her phone rang suddenly, scaring her.
Dorothy looked at the caller ID and saw that it was a number that she had never seen before.
She answered the phone and chuckled, “Juelz, it’s me.”
“Dory, where are you right now?”
From the tone of his voice, it seemed that he was very anxious as he sounded oddly panicked.
“I’m in the hospital. Why? What is it?” Dorothy asked, her smile fading.
“Which hospital are you in? Dory, I’ve been calling you for ages but couldn’t get through to you at all! You and Belle weren’t in the apartment as well, so I got worried. I’m using my assistant’s number to call you right now, I didn’t expect you to answer the call so soon.
That b*stard Credence must have blocked my number on your phone when you weren’t aware. Tell me the truth, Dory, is Credence hiding you and Belle?”
“Juelz, that’s not the case. Belle and I are doing fine. I’m busy at the moment, I’ll call you back when I’m free.”
She hung up the phone and just as her hand touched the handle of the bathroom door, someone grabbed it, then she was dragged through the door the next second.
Her back was pinned against the closed door, the man before her pressed onto her with all his might.
The back of her hand swept over his pants and her entire body tensed from nervousness. The man let out a deep breath on her forehead and said, “You’re here.”
Dorothy nodded calmly, “Yes, Jonathan told me you were involved in a car accident. So I came to see you.”
She suddenly felt Credence’s palm move to caress her arm, making its way to an inch below her collarbone and slowly traveling south. Dorothy could not help but call out, “Credence, do you think it’s appropriate for you to do this?”
He seemed to be pleased by her words. He slightly raised his thin lips into a devious grin and replied, “We’ve slept with each other before, what’s not appropriate about this?”
Dorothy turned her face away, avoiding his burning gaze as she began to speak, “Jonathan told me that you were seriously injured. Can you let go of me first? I want to take a look at your wound.”
Credence remained still. His gaze travelled down to her red lips and her soft chest that were pressed against his then to her bare slender legs.
Dorothy looked at him from the corners of her eyes and tried to remain indifferent even though she was beginning to get nervous, “Credence, what are you trying to do?”
“I want to sleep with you.”
Under the soft lights, a look of pure lust could be seen on the man’s face.
What the f*ck!
Dorothy almost cursed out loud. She stared blankly for a while before she lowered her voice and scolded him angrily. “Credence, why did you block Juelz’s number from my phone?”
Had Juelz not called her with his assistant’s number, she would still be kept in the dark.
He had done it so stealthily that she could not even figure out how or when he did it.
This man had really gone too far.
“You are mine. I will never allow any other man to covet you. That’s why I deleted Juelz’s number from your phone.”
He used his slender fingers to lift her chin as he lowered his handsome face at an extremely slow speed.
When they made direct eye contact, the two merely stood still and looked at each other without moving.
His black eyes grew even darker as all sorts of complex emotions played out in them. She could not tell exactly what was going through his mind.
Joy, blame, and a deeply-rooted remorse could be seen in his pupils.
“Credence, did you hit your head in the car accident?”
Dorothy had never seen this man in such extreme guilt before. She could not help but stand rooted on the ground. She merely looked at him in a daze as she waited for him to answer her.
But in Credence’s eyes, this woman who he had hurt mercilessly was still deeply concerned about him even though they had been divorced for six years. When she heard that he was injured, she came to visit him in a hurry. Her true feelings for him were no different than six years ago.
The two cars were actually part of Rosalie’s evil scheme. In them were some mercenaries that she had hired with a large amount of money. She wanted Credence and his entire family to die an unnatural death, a premeditated explosion.
Had he not been vigilant enough, Dorothy and Belle would not have remained safe and sound. Their fates would most likely be up to the Gods to decide.
However, six years ago, he had been too stubborn and tyrannical. He had played into Rosalie’s game and allowed Dorothy to be framed time and time again. As her husband, not only did he not help her, he even added insult to injury and abandoned her to deal with the torment herself…
Credence frowned at that thought, feeling a stabbing pain in his heart.
He really should have been punished for being such a b*stard six years ago.
The cold violence and blatant disregard he had treated Dorothy with had caused her to lose her naturally bright smile, as well as the gentle smile that shone in her eyes when she saw him back then.
Compared to the pain Dorothy had suffered, the injury he had sustained on his leg was nothing.
Suddenly, the man stretched his arms out and pulled Dorothy into his embrace. His thin lips pressed against her ear, as he murmured softly, “Dorothy, I really owe you an apology for everything I’ve done in the four years of our marriage.”
An unknown emotion began to surface in Dorothy. She could not pin down the feeling but it made her feel both depressed and uncomfortable.
She asked in startled confusion, “Credence, what is wrong with you?”
She raised her voice a little and her heart was beating rapidly. She hurriedly broke free from his embrace and gave him a thorough once-over.
As she had pushed Credence away from her, the man could not help but take a step back. However, his left leg remained in its position as his body staggered backwards. He hurriedly supported himself by leaning against the snow-white wall behind him.
Dorothy’s gaze followed his movements. When she lowered her head, she noticed that there were several huge holes near the knees of his trousers. Through those holes, she could see a white bandage inside.
At that moment, perhaps because the movement of his retreat was big, scarlet blood started to ooze out, staining the gauze.
She quickly ran up to him and grabbed his arms to support him out of the bathroom, “Credence, after Belle and I left, you went to follow the two cars, right? What happened after that? Don’t try to hide anything from me. I want to know everything.”
Credence knew better than anyone how stubborn Dorothy was.
If he did not tell her the truth, she would never trust him again.
But if he told her the truth, would she be able to bear it?
Credence shut his eyes and contemplated for a short while. When he opened them, he felt a sharp pain in his temples.
His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he suppressed the pain in his heart. “Dorothy, what I’m going to say next will most likely cause a great psychological impact on you. Are you absolutely sure you want to hear it?” He said calmly.
