Dorothy moved out from behind Marvin and smiled at the cold man. “I can’t stay in Talco City any longer. I just want to see Belle and Germaine as soon as possible, thus I forced Benjamin to send me here. This is none of Benjamin’s fault. Don’t be upset at him.”
“We will talk inside.”
Since she was already here, what else could he do?
He raised his hand and pinched his brows. He noticed Dorothy limping slowly into the simple office and a trace of distress flashed in his eyes. He walked towards her, held her slender waist, and gently led her in. He sighed helplessly, “I have to go to the island immediately. It is not safe for you to be here, I will get distracted very easily.”
“But, if you don’t let me come here, I will feel uneasy, too.”
Dorothy blinked and looked up at the man with a bitter smile. “Credence, do you know? I haven’t been at ease for the past few days on my way here. I kept having the same nightmare. It was either something bad happening to Germaine or Belle!
Every time I wake up from the nightmare, I feel so scared. I was so scared that those nightmares would become real.
Therefore, I have to come no matter what happens. Do you understand me?”
Throughout her journey, she was too concerned about her daughter and Germaine. Therefore, not only was Dorothy all worn out, she even reflected on herself and thought that her hatred for Credence was not worth mentioning in the face of death.
She could learn to let go of all the pain she received in her marriage and learn to forgive him too. That’s all.
As for love, she was already scarred thoroughly, and she could no longer find the will to love anyone anymore.
How could he not understand her?
Credence kept silent and looked at her a few times. He held her hand and led her into an even more simple lounge. There was only a bed and a chair, nothing else.
“Take a rest first. I will arrange for someone to protect you. Have a good sleep. When you wake up, I will have brought your daughter and Germaine back by then.”
Upon hearing the man mentioning “your daughter”, Dorothy felt a stab in her heart. She almost wanted to tell him the truth.
But after she thought about it, she quickly dispelled that impulse.
Even if she wanted to tell him the truth, now was not the right time.
In order to ensure the success of the rescue operation, she could not add any more pressure on him.
Who knew just how many traps Rosalie and the enemy had prepared on the island?
Dorothy took a deep breath and hid the worries in her eyes. Then, she clenched her fists and said, “Alright, I will wait for your return.”
The next second, her entire body was in the air. The man carried her and gently placed her on the bed. While her vision was in a state of chaos and blurriness, he calmly pressed her down and forcefully kissed her trembling and pale lips with great force.
This was his fiercest kiss.
“Oh…”
A numb and painful feeling came from her lips. Dorothy could not help but moan out in pain, as sad tears came out of the corners of her eyes. Tears slid down her white cheeks to the tip of the man’s tongue, and the bitter taste quickly spread in their mouths.
“Dorothy, be good, don’t cry.”
After tasting her tears, Credence’s entire body trembled, and he was reluctant to part from her soft lips. He cupped her thin and pointed chin with both hands, and a deep and tender light swirled in his black eyes. “Don’t worry, I will come back and bring your daughter and Germaine with me safely.”
“Credence, you must, all of you must come back alive.”
Dorothy’s eyes were wet with tears. At this moment, she let go of her entangled love and hatred for him. She listened to her heart, opened her slender arms, used all her strength to hold the man’s slender and strong waist, and kissed him.
This was the first kiss she had taken the initiative to give after their divorce six years ago.
If she was brave enough to take the initiative for the first time, then there would be a second; and a third; and even countless times too.
His tall and straight body trembled irrepressibly. He covered his brow with his hand to cover the wetness under his eyes and let out soft, joyful laughter.
For the first time, he thought that his initial reaction of having the urge to rescue Dorothy’s daughter was the best decision he made in his entire life.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Marvin knocked fiercely on the door. “Credence, we are all set. It’s time to go.”
No matter how reluctant he was, he still had to leave.
Credence moved his body away from Dorothy and stood on the edge of the bed. Finally, he gave her a deep look, as if he wanted to engrave her entire face in his heart. He silently picked up the bulletproof vest and the pistol from the chair and left.
Dorothy immediately got up and stood at the door of the simple room to watch him and Marvin leave side by side.
…
Above the base, several helicopters hovered in the air. Bright lights illuminated the sleepless night.
The rumbling of the helicopter represented justice and power, as if it could make all the demons and ghosts tremble in the dark.
The base was created with more than a dozen stone houses, and the sudden sound of the helicopter broke the silence in the night.
“D*mn it, are they still going to let us sleep? What kind of planes fly in the middle of the night?”
“F*ck, I heard that these are the troubles that the boss’s new sugar baby from a few days ago caused. F*ck her.”
“I’ve told the boss a long time ago that he shouldn’t always think about sleeping with women. He slept with them whenever and wherever he went. He would be killed by one someday.”
“Shut the f*ck up, get a weapon. Fight if we can, run if we can’t. Our lives are more important.”
“Yes, yes, yes. Only when we are alive can we have drugs, money, and women.”
There were quite a few hatchet men in the stone house. They cursed and rushed out with guns in their hands. They seemed anxious, and they ran around in a disorderly manner.
No one knew that the boss had sneakily left long ago. It was just a trap, and the motive was to bury everyone who was lured here.
Rosalie only noticed something was wrong when she had returned to the core basement of their base to find it empty.
Rosalie and the three men who were carrying the nearly lifeless Germaine had walked a long and tiring path before they finally reached the base. In the end, they were fooled by the boss, and Rosalie herself was only used as a pawn.
In other words, from the very beginning, she was only the boss’s bait. He was only using her to capture Credence, Marvin, and Jeremy in one fell swoop.
Once again, she became a chess piece and was ruthlessly abandoned. Rosalie angrily gnashed her teeth, her eyes redder than blood, dragged the fainted Germain, and said villainously, “You guys tie her to the flagpole first. Whether we can survive this night or not is up to her.”
The three men were in a panic and they had no idea what to do. They had seen Rosalie’s cruel and merciless acts along the way, thus they daren’t disobey her. They rushed over, dragged Germaine out of the basement, and tied her up high on a flagpole.
Germaine was unconscious, completely covered in blood, and was hanging in the air.
She looked like a lonely sparrow hanging in the night wind from a distance.
At the same time, Credence, Marvin, as well as five skillful soldiers landed around the base from the helicopters. After they had assembled, they silently went to the stone houses.
Marvin’s eyes were sharp. He pointed at the giant bird in mid-air, lowered his voice, and asked, “Credence, look. What is that?”
One glance and Credence was furious. “That’s Germaine. We need to save her now!” He said coldly.
Ever since Rosalie had been to prison, her heart had turned more and more vicious!
At this instant, Credence’s motive to kill her grew stronger and stronger!
