Upon seeing Credence’s gloomy expression at that moment, Dorothy was terrified as she screamed and retreated backward.
“Stop, Credence! What are you going to do?”
His cold and stern face was gloomier than an abyss as his eyes stared straight at the woman who was continuously retreating in fear. Her small face was deathly pale, tears sparkled in her eyes, and her entire body trembled continuously. Yet, those were not enough to hide her stunning beauty.
Who would have thought that such a beautiful woman would have a heart that was even more vicious than a poisonous snake?
At about six o’clock this morning, he had made a phone call on this bed and asked about his father’s condition.
In the end, a group of unknown hooligans had appeared in the hospital in the morning, waiting for an opportunity to kill his father, Sheldon.
Something like this had happened before, too. For the sake of his father’s safety, Credence had transferred his father to a secret hospital in Monticello with Marvin and Jonathan’s help. This hospital had a military force as its backer. Apart from the people working inside, no one else knew about its location. There were layers upon layers of security and privacy enforced within the hospital.
Even when Credence went there personally, it was always incredibly difficult for him to enter and meet his father.
However, this morning, something had happened to Sheldon, causing him to become seriously injured. In the beginning, it seemed like he was on the verge of waking up, and he would soon regain his consciousness. However, this time, a harsh blow had been inflicted on his head, which further worsened his condition. It seemed even more difficult for him to wake up now.
Upon receiving the doctor’s urgent call from the office, Credence could clearly feel his heart beating slower and slower. His mood went from his hopes almost shattering, to gradual disappointment, and then, he suddenly fell apart into pieces, breaking down in the end.
He had been careless to mention his father’s hospital address in front of Dorothy. It would not take too much effort for one to check the location out.
The hospital was a secret that only Marvin and Jonathan knew. Even Benjamin had been kept in the dark regarding this matter.
Therefore, apart from Dorothy, who else could have been the one who leaked the information?
For a split second, the atmosphere in the guest room grew even more silent.
Credence was enraged and veins could be seen bulging out on his temples horrifyingly. He took slow steps forward, pinching Dorothy’s chin. He stretched his arm out and pulled on it, as if he was going to crush it as he said, “Tell me, who did you send the information to?”
“What information? I don’t know what you are talking about.”
Dorothy was confused, yet in so much pain that she almost cried. However, she was firmly pinned down and could not break free at all. She could not help but frown at him. “Credence, let’s talk about this properly. Can you let go of me first?”
Credence let out a sinister sneer. “Let go of you?”
His icy-cold voice tunneled into Dorothy’s ear, causing her to shiver uncontrollably.
“Dorothy, my father’s condition is getting worse. The doctor has issued three notices of critical danger in a row. Are you satisfied now?”
“What are you talking about? Your father? How could he become like this all of a sudden? Didn’t you say that his condition was getting better?”
Dorothy felt her brain buzzing, as she could not say any coherent words at all.
In the four years of her marriage with Credence, she had only met Sheldon a few times and could feel just how much his father sincerely liked her.
Sheldon was unlike Caleb and Linda, who had pretended to be nice to her in public, yet would beat her and scold her in private. If not for the sake of the Fisher family’s reputation, they would have kicked her out a long time ago.
However, she had woken up in a daze for a while this morning. She indeed did hear him making a phone call, but she swore that she had not done anything.
Credence’s father, Sheldon Scott, was the only person who had treated her well these past few years. How could she do anything to hurt him?
“Believe me, I didn’t. I really didn’t do anything.”
“Who do you think will believe you at this point in time?”
Credence’s eyes were bloodshot. When he saw the shock and confusion on Dorothy’s face, he subconsciously thought that she was just acting. He smacked his thin lips together with a faint smile on his face, and the hatred in his eyes grew.
He took a mobile phone out from somewhere and displayed it in front of Dorothy’s eyes. The more furious he was, the more handsomely he smiled, “I picked up the phone you threw out of the window. You made a phone call half an hour before. The phone number belongs to a foreign number in Monticello.”
After a pause, he lowered his eyes and looked down at her. He laughed coldly, “The evidence is conclusive. Are you still going to deny your doings?”
“What foreign call? I don’t know about that! I don’t know anything!”
Dorothy got nervous. She endured the stinging pain on her chin and grabbed the phone from Credence’s hand. Her trembling hands swiped across the screen and clicked on the call log. Sure enough, at 6:45 a. m., a phone call that had lasted for six minutes had been made.
She trembled and dialed the number. A prerecorded message rang out from her speaker, sounding incredibly robotic.
“Miss Dorothy, the information you gave us is quite accurate. I’ve achieved my goal. Please provide your bank account immediately so that I can transfer the other half of the payment to you! Our cooperation has gone pleasantly. I look forward to working with you again!”
After listening to it, Dorothy, as if stung by a wasp, hurriedly threw the phone on the floor, raised her head, and looked at the gloomy Credence in horror. She shook her head wildly as she insisted, “No, I didn’t work together with anyone. I don’t know who this number belongs to. Credence, you must believe me, you have to believe me, okay?”
She had just taken a nap, yet so many things that she could not accept had happened, and every piece of evidence was pointing to her. This was too ridiculous.
Hold on for a minute.
She thought of the words that Rosalie had uttered earlier and Dorothy immediately understood that Rosalie must have done all of that just to frame her.
Rosalie wanted to frame her so badly that she actually displayed all her intelligence and everything she was capable of this time.
“Credence, I swear that I absolutely didn’t harm your father. Rosalie is the one who did it. She’s the one behind all this. She must have done all of this! Go and investigate her whereabouts and her contacts from the past few days. You will definitely find evidence of her framing me.”
He scolded, “Shut up!”
Credence fiercely flung Dorothy onto the cold, hard marble wall. He stared deeply into her eyes, and his smile was so cold that it could pierce through someone. “I know more about Rosalie than you do! She might not be as carefree and unscrupulous as you, but her heart is kind and pure. A lowly woman like you is definitely no match for her!”
Every word he spat out was like a sharp needle, piercing into Dorothy’s heart sharply.
Ever since Credence had lost his memories, he had grown even crueler than before.
She was in so much pain that she slowly slid down from the wall, landing on the floor. Her right hand covered her chest as she trembled and shrunk into a ball.
It hurts! It hurt so much!
