Chapter 138 An Out of The Ordinary Reaction

Benjamin jabbed his finger at the picture on the big screen which showed the woman talking to Credence.
He suddenly stopped short and turned around. They could tell that the woman was calling out to him.
However, it was a pity that the only emotion they could discern from Credence’s face was indifference mingled with impatience.
As for the woman who was trailing behind him, they still were unable to see her face, only her curvaceous back was revealed. Not at all discouraged by Credence’s indifference and him walking away immediately, she followed him up to the second floor.
What did this incident mean?
It meant that this woman who had suddenly appeared from nowhere had been in contact with Credence for a few minutes. All they needed to do was show Credence Dorothy’s photo and ask him if he had seen her.
Marvin was indeed the smartest among the three men present.
He soon understood everything and turned around, walking outside.
As he headed towards the exit, he said, “Stop looking at it. There’s nothing else we can tell now. It’d be better for us to go straight to Credence.”
With that, Benjamin and the others followed Marvin back into the lounge.
When they opened the door, Credence was still lying on the sofa with his eyes closed, catching some rest. He was awakened by the messy footsteps, his expression frozen for a while.
He rolled over, raised his hand and pressed on his aching temple. Stretching out his two long legs and lounging lazily, he frowned and lit a cigarette. A faint, restless air of sleepiness was obvious on his face.
“Is the banquet over?”
A while ago, he had been occupied with the matters of his and Rosalie’s engagement ceremony. In addition, he was also busy negotiating business with some major companies. As he had not been getting quality sleep for a long time, he was physically and mentally exhausted.
So, he had taken advantage of tonight’s banquet, and had only shown himself in public for a while. He had specially asked the hotel to book a lounge for him to sleep in and ordered that no one was allowed to enter the room except for Benjamin.
Jonathan and the others were just too noisy, squawking around like an army of ducks. He would never be able to get the peace and quiet he wanted.
As for Rosalie, she always wanted to flirt when she was around him. However, the strange thing was that although she was his fiancée who he had personally chosen, he had no desire towards her, no matter how he looked at her body.
Therefore, Credence would deliberately avoid any opening where he would spend a night with Rosalie in a room together.
No matter how delicate and charming Rosalie dressed herself to be, he had absolutely no desire to get down on her.
Credence thought to himself that he should go to the psychologist this weekend and ask for an explanation.
“Tsk, we don’t care whether the banquet is over or not.”
Jonathan was the first to rush forwards, taking out his mobile phone. On the screen were a few photos of Dorothy which he had saved since god-knows-when. He showed it to Credence, smiling while he said, “Credence, take a look. Did this woman look for you tonight?”
Credence lowered his eyelids and cast his deep gaze on the woman’s beaming face on the phone. He simply spat out, “Yes.”
He had only brushed Dorothy off as a woman who was trying to hit on him. He confessed that she really did talk to him and had even followed him to the door of the lounge.
However, he had only replied to her once before closing the door and shutting her out.
The sound insulation in the room was quite good, so he was unable to know that Dorothy had been standing in the corridor and knocking on the door for a long time. He did not even know that Rosalie and Dorothy had been engaged in a tit-for-tat conversation.
When he heard that Dorothy really had returned and that it was not an illusion of his, Benjamin was so worked up that he could not even stammer out a word.
Marvin looked around and saw that Jonathan was eager to say something ridiculous. So, he stepped forward and spoke first, “Credence, when she was talking to you, did you feel anything out of the ordinary?”
Credence flicked the cigarette into an ashtray and raised his head. His face remained impassive, and his deep gaze only swept over Marvin. He asked calmly, “What kind of out of the ordinary feeling should I have?”
“Credence, your words are a bit harsh! Dorothy has wasted her lifetime by sleeping with you for four years. Until this point, you’re actually saying that you have no feelings for her? How could you say such ruthless words? Don’t you feel guilty?!”
Jonathan was filled with righteous indignation as he stood up for Dorothy.
Credence put out his cigarette and pointed at Dorothy’s face with his slender fingers. He sneered coldly, “With a face like hers, was I even able to continuously sleep with her for four years?”
Benjamin finally recovered from his excitement. After hearing Credence’s words, he could not help but refute, “Mr. Scott, she is Mrs. Scott. You had indeed been married to Mrs. Scott for four years.”
He had been married to this woman for four years? Had he really slept with her for four years?
Why didn’t he have any memories of her at all?
Credence frowned, fastidiously ransacking his brain for any semblance of memories.
Unfortunately, he could not recall anything. The more he thought about it, the more unbearable the stabbing pain in his brain got.
The pain was akin to tens of millions of sharp large needles piercing into his head at once. Even a man like him, who could bear any pain, could not help letting out a painful groan.
The bright light shone on the man’s chiseled facial features. He laid back on the sofa, his body covered with beads of sweat. His eyes were squeezed shut, looking pale and haggard. Wrestling with the unspeakable pain, his breathing grew disordered and rapid, giving rise to terrible gasps.
At that moment, Benjamin, Jonathan and Marvin knew they had been too hasty.
They clearly knew that every time Credence tried to recall anything about Dorothy, he would feel excruciating pain and discomfort.
A top neurosurgeon had done a most thorough examination on Credence.
The doctor said that his brain had been severely traumatized by the car accident. There was a large amount of blood in his brain that was pressing on a section of the nerves on his brain. Due to numerous blood clumps, it was impossible for him to undergo a craniotomy to get him treated. He could only slowly nurse himself in his daily life and avoid any triggers at all costs.
Otherwise, he would very likely lose his life.
Benjamin couldn’t bear to see Credence suffer, so he quickly denied his request, “Mr. Scott, stop thinking about it. Dorothy has nothing to do with you. Mr. Stanton just wanted to crack a joke with you. It was just a prank!”
Jonathan also followed suit. He squeezed out a smile that was laced with guilt as he said, “Credence, it’s all my fault. I’ve always had the tendency to run my mouth. Actually, Dorothy is just my friend. I think she’s quite a good person, and I just wanted to play a prank on you to set you two up.”
Even Jonathan himself could not believe that lackluster explanation, and his eyes started twitching.
Credence ignored them. He darted a gloomy look at Marvin, who still looked dignified even in his casual clothes.
Marvin hesitated for less than a second before frowning as he nodded, “Credence, they’re telling the truth.”
The farce had concluded in such a confusing way. Just as Benjamin and Jonathan were secretly rejoicing, only Marvin noticed that Credence was holding back an indescribable emotion as he quietly narrowed his eyes for a little while.
When faced with jokes about Dorothy from this group of people and Rosalie’s occasional testing, he did not think much of it. He only thought of her as an insignificant person and smiled faintly upon replying to them.
However, as her name resonated more and more in his mind, such an ordinary name like Dorothy had secretly carved a place into his mind.
This night in particular was especially interesting, as that woman had actually chased after him. As soon as she had opened her mouth, his name came tumbling out. There was an obvious intimacy and an unknown feeling concealed within her seemingly cold attitude.
As Marvin, Jonathan, and Benjamin were keeping him in the dark, he reckoned that he must have had a complicated relationship with this woman before!
Oh well, all he had to do was pay Victor an extra fee.
After a few days, just as Credence was still pondering on whether he should inform Victor to investigate Dorothy or not, a minor accident happened on his side.
