Credence unlocked the door with his fingerprint and walked into the large living room with heavy steps. He walked along the corridor and went towards the guest room.
The closer he got to the carved door, the slower his footsteps were.
He walked alone in the empty corridor, and suddenly, he wanted to smoke a cigarette to calm his disordered heartbeat.
He knew that it was impossible for Dorothy to appear in the room, yet he still had a ridiculous illusion, as if nothing had happened between Dorothy and him, and that they had never divorced. Even though their relationship was cold, their bodies were still close.
As for Dorothy, he hoped that she never left nor went to prison. He hoped she was still the same as she had been for the past four years, laying in a daze on his bed while wearing a simple nightgown. He hoped she was still listening to some relaxing music as she waited for him to come home.
Unfortunately, these were all dreams in the past that could never be fulfilled.
Although he had indulged himself in alcohol with Jonathan’s accompaniment in the bar, he could not remove the image of Dorothy from his mind.
The more he drank, the more sweetly she smiled at him in his mind. She was like a beautiful blooming flower, and no one could compare to her!
Credence closed his eyes harshly, then opening them again. He was so agitated that he lit a cigarette and entered the room. He asked coldly, “Who’s there?”
“Credence, it’s me!”
After a soft female voice rang out, Rosalie, who was wearing Dorothy’s pajamas and a hairstyle similar to hers, walked towards Credence in a graceful and charming way.
“Mr. Scott, this is my fault. I didn’t check Mrs. Scott’s room carefully, and some random woman entered.”
Maria, who was living in the servant’s room, had heard the noise and rushed over. When she saw Rosalie wearing Dorothy’s pajamas without Dorothy’s permission, she was so furious that she pursed her lips tightly together, “Miss Fisher, when did you come in? Please take Mrs. Scott’s clothes off, thank you.”
Who the hell did this woman think she was? She was wearing Mrs. Scott’s clothes and sleeping on her bed just because she was not around. She even wanted to take away her husband. How shameless.
She had seen a lot of undignified people in her life, but she had never seen one this horrible.
Credence shouted, “Don’t touch me!”
Right as Rosalie’s soft and fair arms were making her way to him, Credence swung her hand away. As he did so, a strong smell of alcohol emitted from his body.
“Credence, I’ve done as you asked, so why are you still unwilling to forgive me? Why must you be so cold to me?”
“I admit it I shouldn’t have put on an act to frame Dorothy, but I did all that because I love you!”
“My love for you has never changed. I love you so much that my love for you only continued to grow. As for you, you’re always blowing hot and cold towards me. You’ve even forgotten about your promise to divorce Dorothy and marry me. You’ve forgotten all about it…”
“I’m so scared. I’m afraid that you don’t want me anymore and that I no longer have a spot in your heart.”
“Shall we start over? I don’t want a title, I don’t want anything. As long as you’re willing to keep me by your side, I will be satisfied for my entire life!”
Rosalie’s words were so disgustingly affectionate that even Maria wanted to vomit when she heard it.
She finally witnessed for herself that extremely shameless people were really completely invincible.
Rosalie had used the excuse of love to slowly squeeze herself into their lives. She wanted to take Mr. Scott away from his wife. How shameless could she be?!
After that, the only reply Credence gave Rosalie was the loud sound of the door closing. He had entered the bedroom and slammed the door behind him.
He stood in the middle of the room and looked around coldly.
There were still a lot of clothes in the wardrobe that Dorothy did not take away due to the short notice. Beside the table were all kinds of butterfly-shaped dolls on the bed. There were the pillows she liked which had blue floral patterns. In the middle of all of those things was a beautiful French lotus. There were several butterflies surrounding the floral patterns. That was Dorothy’s favorite pillow.
He walked over and placed his arms on the bed. He bent his tall body, and with his long and fair fingers, he gently picked up the pillow and covered his frigid face with it.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He took in Dorothy’s scent, faint but refreshing.
Perhaps, the disappointed tears he had made her shed were still there.
Had she noticed that she had left this pillow that she loved the most behind on the night she had decided to leave the house? What kind of emotions had she felt that night?
Most of Dorothy’s things had been restored to their original positions by Marie, and they were all as good as new. However, their owner had left. She really had left, and she no longer wanted him anymore.
Credence threw the pillow onto the bed with all his might as he shouted, “Maria!”
Maria, who was waiting in the corridor outside the door, immediately ran inside in a hurry. The moment she brushed past Rosalie, she glared at the shameless woman as she wanted to rush up and hit her just to stand up for Dorothy. She said, “Mr. Scott doesn’t welcome you. Miss Fisher, please leave this place at once.”
If it weren’t for Rosalie stirring problems up in Mrs. Scott’s marriage, Mr. Scott and her would definitely be living a happy life. They might even have had a few children already.
After being shooed away by a servant, Rosalie was incredibly furious, but she dared not throw a tantrum in front of Credence. She secretly pinched herself. As she shed tears of pain, she turned and pitifully looked at the man who she had loved for many years and pleaded, “Credence, I can tell that you’re in a terrible mood now. Can I stay here? I don’t have any other ulterior motives. I just want to accompany you.”
“Rosalie, if you still have a sense of shame, then stop acting in front of me.”
His face darkened, and he slowly started to laugh. His voice was cold, so cold that it could freeze people over.
He looked over and stared at Rosalie. He sneered, “Even if you were the only woman left in the entire world, I still wouldn’t want you to accompany me, nor would I ever touch you. That’s because every part of you is filthy, especially your heart!”
He stared into her eyes, and there was absolutely no warmth in his look.
At last, she could no longer stand Credence’s cold indifference nor Maria’s sarcasm and contempt anymore. Rosalie covered her face and ran away in tears of anguish.
Credence frowned, “In the future, without my permission, no one else is allowed to enter this room.”
He stared at Maria when he gave her this absolute order.
As soon as Maria was about to agree to his request, a thought suddenly flashed through her mind. After thinking for a few seconds, she braced herself and said, “Well, what if Mrs. Scott comes back?”
“She’s not coming back ever again.”
After saying so, the door of the bedroom was rudely slammed shut.
The moment the door closed, Maria looked at Credence’s tall, straight back. For some reason, she could sense sadness in him.
Was he like this because Mrs. Scott would never come back again?
Maria buried the question deep in her heart and dared not ask further.
…
Although Dorothy had left for quite some time, her scent still lingered in the room. That special scent was one that only she possessed, and it was one that suited his tastes.
He woke up in less than ten minutes after he laid in bed.
He stood up and got ready to go to the bathroom to wash his face. His mind was still in a daze when suddenly, the phone on his bedside table rang. Jonathan was calling him.
He was different from his usual carefree attitude as he asked in an incredibly serious tone, “Credence, where are you?”
“What is it?”
“D*mn it. Have you really forgotten what day it is today? Today is the 10th, it’s the 10th, Credence!”
Upon hearing his words, Credence rubbed his eyebrows and his handsome face instantly darkened.
