Credence’s expression was cold and unfathomable. Rosalie suddenly felt a sense of uneasiness and fear overcome her.
“Credence, don’t ask me more about it. I don’t want to recall that painful and terrible experience again!”
As she spoke, Rosalie’s face suddenly grew pale and distorted. She shook her head painfully, and her face was tear-stricken. She sobbed miserably, “Ah… don’t! Who are you? Go away, go away, please, let me go!”
“Credence, where are you? Save me, please!”
She seemed miserable and crazy, as if she truly was reliving that unbearable time when she had been bullied and humiliated.
She did not know what had gone wrong. Credence had clearly already announced his divorce with Dorothy to the public, but she did not feel happy or relaxed at all. On the contrary, she could feel that Credence was becoming more distant, and he was becoming colder towards her.
All of those facts caused her to panic.
Thus, she had asked a group of porters to throw all of Dorothy’s belongings away early in the morning. She wanted to gauge Credence’s reactions.
He did react to the situation, but the results were not what she had expected them to be.
At that very moment, all those boxes of belongings should have been on their way to be burned, but they were all being rearranged back to their original position instead. The guest room returned to how it had been when Dorothy had still been there.
Rosalie was crying silently and pitifully. However, deep down, she was extremely jealous, and reluctant to give up on him.
She loved Credence, and her feelings for him were no less than Dorothy’s, but why wasn’t she the one who had married him, and why wasn’t she the one who had borne his child?
Even if Dorothy had lost Credence’s child, at least she had experienced the warmth of Credence’s skin, and experienced his physical love.
What about her?
Apart from occasionally acting like a spoiled brat to get Credence’s emotionless embrace, they had never even held hands before.
He had once told her he would never fall in love with such a scheming woman like Dorothy. However, throughout all four years of his marriage, he went from hating Dorothy to loving her. It was so ridiculous.
“Stop acting already! it’s all too fake!”
Credence stared at Rosalie, who was clutching her heart in pain. His eyes were filled with disdain and mockery, “You being taken advantage of in the underground parking had nothing to do with Dorothy. It was just an act that you had put on and acted out by yourself. Am I right?”
“Credence, are you doubting me?”
Rosalie looked at the handsome but icy cold man in front of her, her vision getting mistier.
His dark eyes were full of negative emotions. Back then, he would show his coldness to Dorothy without restraint. However, he was now directing all of it towards her.
All this time, Rosalie had used her feminine, gentle, and understanding disguise to receive a little bit of Credence’s pity. As a result, she became a girlfriend of his that he had neither approved nor denied.
After that, she had deliberately stepped back and gave in. When she found out that Credence’s father had personally arranged to send Dorothy to his bed, she suppressed her own jealous feelings, and allowed Credence to marry Dorothy. That way, Credence might be filled with guilt and feel sorry towards her, and a short while after, maybe he would love her a little more.
On the day of their marriage, she had stood under a huge tree in the courtyard outside the villa. She had held two bottles of high-grade and strong alcohol in her hand, and poured huge mouthfuls of wine down her throat as she shed tears.
That night, Rosalie, who had gone crazy from anger and jealousy, remembered how harsh Credence’s father had been on her. She remembered how he prevented her from marrying Credence, and how she had lost the position of Mrs. Scott due to that. She had threatened him, and had even used his offspring to do so. In the end, she bribed the old housekeeper of Scott Manor who had served them for many years. The housekeeper had added some hallucinogenic drugs to his daily meals.
Finally, at the banquet of his 60th birthday two years ago, she had set everything up and had successfully framed Dorothy.
What had come out of that?
Although Credence had lost his mind out of anger, and had almost strangled Dorothy to death, he had not sent Dorothy to prison for murder. Instead, he had just locked Dorothy in the guest room of the villa and starved her for several days.
From that day on, Rosalie had grown afraid as she realized that Credence might have fallen in love with Dorothy, which was why he had not sent her to jail.
Rosalie was just a tool that Credence used to resist Dorothy, and to prevent himself from falling for her.
She thought that Credence had married Dorothy out of his father’s oppression and suppression.
Now she understood that if Credence did not want the marriage, there was no one in the world who could force him to do anything he did not want to.
All her deliberate schemes had turned into a joke. She mocked herself for being too silly and naïve, as to take a man’s pity towards her as love.
At the thought of that, Rosalie smiled with tears in her eyes, “Credence, why would I put on a show? What would I get out of destroying my reputation by being taken advantage of by thugs?”
“In this period, I’ve discussed it with my parents. Although Dorothy has done many bad things to me in the past. She is still my sister. Family should work together and love each other. Dorothy has had a weak body ever since she was a child. Although she has hurt me, I don’t want to hurt her back using the same way.”
“Credence, I’ve made up my mind. On the day of Dorothy’s court, I’ll tell the judge that she didn’t mean to push me out of the window. She had just made a mistake out of impulse.”
“As a victim, if I don’t want Dorothy to bear the responsibilities, will Dorothy’s sentence become lighter?”
After that, Rosalie raised her head and looked tentatively at the man standing not far away from her. His cold eyes were staring back at her.
Credence smiled, “I don’t need your plead for her.”
He laughed in a low and cold voice. Every inch of the lines around his lips were so cold that it seemed like it would tear apart at any moment.
He slowly pulled the medical report out from behind him and threw it at Rosalie’s feet. Each word he uttered was colder than ice, “Then, take a look at this. What is this?”
It was just a few pieces of thin paper, and they fluttered towards Rosalie’s feet like butterflies with broken wings. She looked down, and saw her name and two lines of simple but frightening black words at the conclusion.
No case of rape had occurred!
She was still a virgin!
Rosalie suddenly felt her chest tighten. She remembered some time ago when she had been recuperating in the hospital ward. A few unfamiliar female doctors had done a full-body examination on her, including her most private parts. The examination was incredibly serious and extremely detailed.
Back then, she had thought that the police needed to check her injuries to obtain solid evidence of Dorothy’s attempted murder and bring it to court. Thus, she had given her full cooperation.
Now, it seemed that those doctors had all been arranged by Credence. His purpose had been to check if she had been violated by those thugs.
She had calculated everything so thoroughly, but she had never expected Credence to insist on clearing Dorothy’s name.
“Credence, I-I’m sorry. I was so scared that I passed out at that time. When I woke up, I saw that my clothes had been torn to pieces. So, I thought that they had taken advantage of me.”
Rosalie saw her own trembling little body reflected in the man’s cold eyes.
She had worked hard for so long and had plotted so many schemes. She could not just admit defeat like this!
Rosalie gritted her teeth and continued, “Credence, as long as you forgive me for my mistake, I will make a false testimony to my sister in court to prove that she was just joking with me at that time, and that she didn’t mean to kill me.”
Credence paused. After a moment of silence, he smiled and said with a cold smile, “You’d better keep your word! Besides, those punks who had tried to violate you have all fled to Monticello. I’ve sent people over to investigate. Expect to hear about their news soon.”
After that, he turned and walked out of the guest room without caring about Rosalie’s reaction.
As she stared at his retreating, frigid figure, Rosalie felt that her heart had been jumbled into a mess.
Hadn’t she sent them abroad already?
Would Credence still be able find them?
That won’t do. She had to do something before Credence did. She had to make sure that all of them would not expose her.
…
Credence walked out of the guest room, and walked up the stairs. He pushed the door of the study open, and slowly walked in. He frowned as he picked up a cigarette between his fingers and contemplated for a long, long time.
Truth be told, he did not hate Dorothy during their four years of marriage. Rosalie, who had cared about him for four years was not worth his pity as well. At that moment, he felt a sense of defeat.
Suddenly, his phone on the desk rang.
Credence looked at the screen. The call was from Marvin, who was far away in Monticello.
“It’s me. How’s the investigation going?”
On the other side of the phone, Marvin sounded like he was out of breath, “Credence, something just happened! A few thugs were found in the most remote and dirty slums of the Eastern Zone. However, when we found them, the three of them had been shot to death, and the last one is barely alive and breathing. I have sent the last one to the nearest hospital for rescue. Let’s hope that we can hear good news from them.”
Credence’s heart sank.
About an hour ago, Rosalie had learned that he was about to catch those thugs. An hour later, three of the four gangsters were dead, and the last one was barely alive.
It seemed that the power of the person supporting Rosalie was greater than he had imagined.
His gaze was sharp, and he said without any hesitation, “Let him live, no matter what it costs!”
Dorothy’s fate in court relied on this witness to prove her innocence!
