Lorenzo’s pov
‘Enraged’ was an understatement compared to how I’m currently feeling.
I’ve never been that bothered about any of my enemies going to my house when I wasn’t around, and that was because I’ve never had anyone important waiting for me back at home before. I’ve never had anyone ever waiting for me back at home to begin with. Whenever I fuck some women, I either do it in one of my clubs or I take them to one of my other houses, but never the main one that I reside in.
It made me extremely furious that a bunch of unfortunate people had killed my guards and broken into my house just to leave a clear warning. As I drove home, I kept imagining slaughtering those unfortunate people head one after the other, no matter how plentiful they were.
As I drove, I kept thinking of how scared Mia would have definitely been when those bastards broke in. Perhaps that was the exact moment that she called me, and I had ignored it because I had been torturing that useless excuse of a man. That made irritation consume me and because of that, I had the urge to turn back around in order to go kill that man, even though I know that there’s still a lot of information that I could definitely get from him.
I didn’t turn back around, instead, I sped up even more and in no time, I was pulling up into the house. I left the car running as I stepped out of it and let my eyes wander over everywhere at once.
It was quite obvious that a bunch of unwanted visitors had arrived here. Firstly, they had ruined the main gate of the compound, and there were a bunch of slashes marks made by paint over various spots of the walls and the ground.
I made my way deeper into the compound, noticing the bunch of packed bags at the side of the patio, which was undoubtedly those guards’ bodies who had died.
How the intruders had been able to easily defeat my men is still something I’m yet to fully wrap my head around.
The main door leading into the house also had those slashes marks over it, along with a few gunshot holes. Anger made a scowl plaster over my face as I pushed the door open and stepped into the house.
Three of my guards were right there at the entrance of the sitting room, while a few guards were lying around who were clearly injured and were being tended to.
There’s an echo of ‘boss’ flying around and heads being bowed but my eyes wandered past them, all the way upstairs instead.
“Some of the guards survived, but they weren’t able to see the intruder’s faces so at the moment, we have no head start. There’s a few cameras we could go through, but their faces were covered and they had no car plate, so I don’t think we have anything to work with right now.” They relayed along with a few other things one by one.
I gave a tense nod of my head right before the one in the middle continued.
“As for your woman, after we confirmed that she was unharmed, we tried getting her out of the bedroom but she insisted that she wanted to be alone till you return.” They continued and I felt that heat trapped in my chest started to increase in temperature almost at once.
“You know what to do about the deceased and their families. Take care of that, get clips from the cctv regardless of their faceless states, and this place should be vacated tonight.” Once I was done speaking, I walked out from the sitting room, making my way up the stairs at once until I was standing right in front of Mia’s door. It felt like my heart was racing for reasons unknown to me and I took about a minute standing right in front of her door doing nothing but trying to get my heart to stop beating fast.
I knocked against the door twice and waited a heartbeat.
There was silence after that, and I waited a moment before leaning my head against the door before speaking.
“Princess? It’s me.”
I waited one heartbeat, then two, right before the sound of the door being unlocked echoed in the silence, then the door was being swung open to reveal a fear stricken Mia who had tears trailing down her face.
Instead of attempting to say something, I opened my hands and took one step into her room right before she threw herself into my arms and sobbed into my chest.
I tightened my arms around her and cupped her head as the erratic beating of my heart finally slowed down. The entire fear and worry that had been coursing through my veins since the moment I read those texts from my guard, finally began to ebb away slowly.
“Shh.” I whispered as I buried my face in her hair and breathed her familiar scent in. She shuddered against me and clutched me tightly, like I was gonna disappear should she let go.
“I- I was so scared.” She whispered shakily into my chest and I cooed as I tried to shush her.
Never in my entire life have I ever imagined that I’d be in a situation like this, comforting a woman who I had been extremely scared for.
“Nothing’s gonna happen to you, I promised to protect you myself, remember?” I murmured into her hair as I ran my fingers through the soft strands, and somehow, that caused her to cry even harder and I comforted her throughout.
When she finally stopped crying, I carried her into the bathroom and helped her clean up her face then she changed into something I picked out for her.
“We’ll be staying somewhere else for now.” I explained to her and she nodded her head in understanding as she did up her sneakers.
Once she was done, I held the door open for her and closed it after me. She reached for my hand as I took one step and I grew tense for a moment before properly entwining our fingers together, and when I glanced down at her, her eyes glowed beautifully.
