Lorenzo’s pov
At first, I ignored the call when it came through. It was unusual for Mia to call me, but I had told me I wanted to go take care of something important, so she knew not to disturb me. I slipped the phone back into my pocket and picked up the bloodied knife once again.
The man who was bloodied was held firmly in place by men, began to trash while sobbing and a laugh crackled out of my throat.
“This is certainly a sight for sore eyes, don’t you guys think so?” I asked and my men all laughed along once I was done speaking. The man, who had made his greatest mistake ever which was to attempt going against me and outsmarting me.
“I’m so sorry, I promise, I really am.” The man cried out, his words were muffled and unclear as he spoke which is because he’s currently missing a few teeth and the pain of those teeth being pulled out with the help of those pliers must have hurt shitless.
I closed the distance between us and delivered a resounding also on his face. His head whipped sideways and blood flew out of his mouth, splashing against the side of my face and a low chuckle spilled past my lips while the man’s eyes widened in fright.
I reached out and grabbed his hair and jerked his head back, and the. I delivered another series of slap over his face. At this point, his breathing was labored and his nose was clogged. My grip was extremely tight in his hair as I began to speak.
“You know damn well that this isn’t about the money, right?” I asked and he hastily scrambled to respond.
“Y- yes…” His words were slurred as he responded.
“I wanna hear you say it, why am I currently mad at you?” I demanded and he hiccuped for a moment.
“B- because I tried to trick you.” He spoke and I tsked before delivering a blow right on his nose, relishing in the strangled sound he let out at once, right before blood gushed out.
I moved away from him and glanced up at the roof as a laugh slowly eased out of my lungs. A few of my men were undoubtedly starting to get uneasy, like they always do whenever I get like this.
“You wanna do this the hard way, right?” I said when I glanced back at the man who hiccuped and shook his head so fast, I’m very sure he’s currently dizzy as hell.
“Hand me the bat.” I demanded and at once, it got handed to me by one of my men who had his head bowed. As soon as I grabbed it and swung it around for a moment, the man tensed up and inched backward as I began to close the distance between us, like there was a way he could run to. When I got to him, I used the bat to shove his head upwards till our eyes locked.
“Are you ready to tell me what I wanna hear?” I asked and he scrambled to nod his head at once, causing me to scoff as I moved the bat away before nodding at him to proceed.
“You a- are angry at me b- because I switched your goods for counterfeits before they arrived here, and I went behind your back to turn the minds of some of your business partners away from you.” His voice shook every now and then as he spoke and the second thing which he had just revealed shocked me to the core because it was something I hadn’t stopped to consider for a while now, even though I had noticed the slight decline in the business percentages for a little while.
Without revealing anything on my face, I nodded my head once.
“Go on.”
My phone rang again and it turned out to be Mia when I checked it, and I realized that there were a ton of missed calls from her along with some missed calls and texts from the head of one axis of my guards, and that caught my eyes at once.
I moved away from the man I was interrogating to the other side of the large room as I got my phone open and opened my messages windows.
. We have a problem, boss.
Some people broke into the house.
Slashed some things and created a mess but nothing else happened.
Your woman is safe.
13 guards died.
I let out a curse as I returned the call of the guard whose message I just read and it took a few seconds for the call to get connected.
“How the fuck did all that happen?” I demanded as I discarded the bat and looked around for my other phone. The guard on the otter side of the phone cleared his throat before responding.
“I went on an errand, sir, concerning the Sky’s resolutions. I had no idea of how it happened but I got a call and arrived as fast as I could.”
“Were you able to catch anyone or did they all manage to escape?” I demanded as I ran my clean hand through my hair.
“Unfortunately, they were all able to escape.” The response was low, quiet, and fast.
“And Mia?” I asked after a heartbeat and I felt my breathing slow to a stop as I awaited his response. I had read the texts but somehow, I wanted to hear it loud and care that she was okay.
“She was unharmed. Her room was untouched, sir.”
That was all I needed to hear.
At once, the breath I had been holding in whooshed out at once. I obviously still have a lot of questions, but all all them could definitely wait.
“I’ll be there soon.” I said before ending the call and sliding the phone into my pocket, and that was when it hit me that the first call from Mia that came in had definitely been because of this same topic. That made a troubled feeling settle heavily in my chest as I asked my guards to keep the captive alive before exiting the large room.
