Mia’s pov
“You need to dress extravagantly tonight.”
Those were the first words that left Lorenzo’s mouth as soon as he turned off the accelerator right in front of the large black gate of the mansion that is Lorenzo’s house.
As soon as we finished in the restaurant, Lorenzo didn’t waste time in clearing off the bills. As the bills were getting cleared, he didn’t stop staring at me, making me squirm beneath the intensity of his gaze.
As we exited the restaurant, Lorenzo had nodded his head at me before starting to speak.
“Go on. I’ll walk right behind you.”
Not liking why he was already turning that into a habit, I squared my chin and demanded why he was asking me to do that, but he had warned me to stop asking him stupid questions.
As I walked right in front of him, I felt his gaze on me the entire time until I got into the passenger seat of his car.
“You can catch a little bit of sleep now.” He said right before he started the engine of the car. After filling up my stomach in the restaurant, I instantly felt sleepy as soon as Lorenzo suggested that, and so I let my eyes slide close in order for me to catch some sleep.
The sound of Lorenzo suddenly speaking was the first thing that jolted me awake, right before he turned off the accelerator.
“What?” I breathed out in confusion while rubbing my eyes with my fingers. Lorenzo rolled his eyes as he regarded me like he was extremely tired of me and life itself at once.
“Are you trying to worsen my mood on purpose right now?” He demanded and I flinched, sitting up sharply and blinking the rest of the sleep still clinging to my eyelids.
“Huh? You’re in a bad mood?” I blurted the first question that popped into my head without thinking.
Lorenzo let out an audible sigh. “That’s none of your business, Mia.” He responded flatly.
I let out an irritated huff. “Yeah, fine! Not like I even cared about your mood in the first place. You were talking about something concerning me dressing extravagantly?”
The expression on Lorenzo’s face grew tenser and then he tilted his head, eyes narrowed at me in a silent warning as he spoke.
“Care to repeat the first part of that sentence?” His voice was low as it washed over me, but no sane person would miss the deadly warning bubbling beneath it.
With my heart lodged in my throat and my eyes widening in dread, I hastily shook my head at him in response.
“That’s what I thought.” He breathed out, and then he picked up his phone and flipped through it a little. I blinked a few times, staring at the roof of the car for a few seconds, before starting to slowly calm my racing heart.
“You’re to wear an extravagant dress tonight.” He began to speak once again, after a few minutes had passed, without spearing me a single glance.
“I have an important dinner to be at. I’ll need a plus one to bring with me so you’d be coming with me. Dress to kill. I’ll be coming back home to pick you up by nine p. m.” He continued to speak once again and I hung up on every word he was saying, not wanting to miss a single word to avoid getting on his nerves through that.
When he looked up from the phone to regard me pointedly, I swallowed emptily and averted my gaze. “You had better be ready before I return. If you try anything funny, keep in mind that I’d be here to match your madness with any version of mine. I believe you’ve made acquaintances with some of them.”
I shifted in my seat, not knowing what to say to that.
“Get out of the car.” He gruffed out after a few minutes and my eyes widened.
“What?” I whispered in confusion and Lorenzo rolled his eyes right before he reached out and unbuckled my seatbelt, and I flinched, staying frozen throughout the few seconds that took.
Once he was done, he got the door open as well.
I glanced at him for a few moments in confusion, and then I awkwardly slid out of the car, shutting the door after me. I made my way towards the entrance of the black gate, which was already being opened by one of the gatekeepers.
The sound of Lorenzo’s car leaving made me let out a scoff and an eye roll.
If he had wanted me to alight his fucking car, all he had to do was to say so instead of asking me to ‘get out’ like a psycho that he is.
On making my way into the now empty house, I breathed out a long sigh of relief, dropping onto the couch at once.
For the first time in weeks, I felt a little bit of freedom.
The feeling was short-lived as soon as I glanced out of one of the open windows in the sitting room and sighted a few bodyguards.
Of course he’d never leave his house unguarded, neither would he leave me on my own like I had initially thought, because I had just begun to contemplate running away.
The thought had only been fleeting, because apart from Lorenzo leaving me with that vivid warning in his car minutes ago, I was also yet to get over what had happened to me the last time I attempted to run away.
Lorenzo hasn’t done anything extremely vile to me these days. It’s best I don’t actually push him.
I thought to myself as I made my way to my bedroom upstairs, and there, I did my best to waste time until it got to the time frame for me to begin to get ready.
I picked out the dress carefully, not wanting to dress too much, and also not wanting to be underdressed.
It took me a while to finally settle on the dress to wear and once that was out of the way, I did my hair up with what I could find.
I also touched my face up a little, because I’m sure Lorenzo wouldn’t like my face looking like a dead girl’s own.
When Lorenzo finally arrived, for the love of all that is loved, I couldn’t figure out why he refused to stop staring at me.
