Mia’s POV
I really didn’t want Lorenzo to kill the man so I had to intervene. “Don’t kill him!” I screamed, rushing forward and standing between Lorenzo and the man who was cowering with fear on the floor.
Lorenzo regarded me with an icy expression before he spoke. “And why shouldn’t I kill him?” he asked coldly. “He has spread the story of a false rumor about you and you expect me to let him go? I can’t and I won’t! That is final and don’t question me on it,” he concluded.
“Please, Lorenzo. Don’t kill him. He only did it because of money. And if you look at it very well, he doesn’t know who the woman is no matter what you do to him. So please, just spare him. Let him go. We should focus all our attention into looking for this phantom woman,” I pleaded, giving him an innocent wide eyed look so that he could accept my pleas.
His face was still stone hard, bearing no trace of an emotion on it so I couldn’t guage his reaction to my words. I didn’t have an inkling of what he was thinking. I didn’t know how he would act.
Lorenzo remained silent, looking at me for a long period of time without saying anything. He remained silent for so long that I thought he wouldn’t even say anything at all. I thought that he would keep looking at me till he deemed fit. And that was when he decided to speak.
“Okay, I will not kill him,” he said and I sighed silently in relief. “But I will do to him what I did to the others who carried out this dreadful act with him. He will be taken out of here to a very far place with a long distance from this city. That is the simplest punishment I can offer him.”
“Thank you, sir. Thank you, boss,” Jack said, rushing and jumbling his words together but it was enough to convey the message.
“Now get out!” Lorenzo roared. “You will meet my men outside and they will take you wherever they want to take you.”
The man struggled to stand up from his kneeling position and he stumbled many times because his knees gave way from under him. He had been in that position for long so his knees were quite weak.
Finally, Jack managed to right himself up and get a stance strong enough for him to stand straight on. When he was fully on his two legs, he turned toward the direction of the door and ran out of the room as fast as he could.
The Lorenzo walked to the door and closed it with a type of brutal force, making it slam heavily that I recoiled in fright, almost jumping out of my skin.
Then he turned to face me without caring that he had startled me, his eyes running up and down my body shamelessly without any care in the world.
As his eyes feasted on my body, I averted my own eyes, looking to the floor in resignation. He took his time. He took the time of the day, looking me over. Taking in every part of my body, taking in every inch of my body, every inch that was me.
When he was satisfied with what he had taken in of my body, he spoke. “So you have started to question my decision and orders, huh? You are starting to become quite brave,” he said.
I really didn’t have anything to say but I didn’t want him to get offended at my silence so I tried to say something. “I… I…” I tried to say but I kept stuttering, my words incoherent to the average ear.
“What? Cat got your tongue? You can’t talk again after the brave speech you gave earlier? Wow!” He said all these slowly and then he clapped his hands together, applauding me for nothing.
He continued talking. “Talk, Mia. I want to hear what you have to say. Talk now!” he commanded.
I swallowed nervously, preparing myself for what I was about to say. I truth, I didn’t really have anything to say on the matter. I didn’t have a reason for interfering in the business between Lorenzo and the man called Jack but I had just done it. I had just done it out of impulse and that was it. There was no solid reason whatsoever backing my actions.
But I knew I had to speak. Lorenzo was still waiting for me to say something and I didn’t want to keep him waiting for me to speak much longer. He could get angry and I didn’t want that to happen. I knew what usually happened when he got angry. He lost control and that was not a pretty sight to watch. It usually ended very badly for the person on the other side of his anger.
I really shouldn’t have challenged him into sparing the life of that man but I didn’t regret it. Even if he asked me if I could take it back, my answer would be negative. It was good as he spared Jack’s life. He didn’t need the blood of another person on his hands. I could save him from that even if he didn’t need saving.
So I responded as best as I could under circumstances like this one that was unfolding right now. I didn’t want to stutter. I couldn’t stutter at all because I wanted him to be satisfied with any response I gave to him.
“I only did it because I am sure the man didn’t really want to do it. He just went for it because of the money and probably because he might have been threatened if he didn’t do it. There was fear in his eyes; I could hear it.”
He nodded and I took that as my cue to continue. “We should really focus on looking for this phantom woman. She could be dangerous,” I said.
He moved closer and closer to me until there was no space between us. He looked me up and down with an heated gaze for a full minute, then he turned around and left the room as if he didn’t just do anything.
