Lorenzo’s pov
Why was she looking at me like that with those green doeish eyes which were ridiculously mesmerizing as fuck.
For a moment, I considered just ignoring the meeting and staying with her, but that would be completely ridiculous. I was needed at the meeting for a lot of reasons and I knew that I would make a lot of people uncomfortable by just attending so of course, I needed to do so.
As I finally left her side, I took one last look around he hall where the party was being held and some of my men strategically-placed in different directions, enough to give her space to enjoy the party but then with enough proximity that they would all be shielding her in case things went south at any time.
Finally, I left her side and after breaking my way through the crowd moving up a flight of stairs and then spinning around a little bit, following the directions that the waiter had left in the encrypted note. I was standing in front of a steel door sometime later. I opened the door and then I walked in.
There were three others that were already here, putting aside their minions. One of which came over to lock the door after I had walked in. Normally, that would have troubled a regular person, but I knew that if they were locking the door with ulterior motives– which I was sure they were not foolish enough to have, because they’d be the ones trapped in here with me and not the other way around.
I found a cushioned seat and swept my hand across it casually, or at least trying to make it seem casual because from the life that I have lived at a very young age, I have realized that men have died for the most ridiculous things and in the most painful ways at the same time. Letting down your guard in any situation even with people that you were ‘friends’ with, was a big mistake.
After crossing my legs, I spoke up.
“well?” I murmured, looking at all of them slowly.
“I’m sure that you invited me here to talk, so let’s talk and get this over with…”
All of them seem to have been taken out of a collective dream. The one that had motioned for one of his minions to meet him, was sitting across from me, brushed his fingers across his blonde locks and then coughed a little to clear his throat.
“First of all, I would like to thank you for finding time to…”
“Cut the formalities, and let’s get down to business…”
I didn’t know why they even bother don’t with it anymore.
“I’m sure that all of you were talking shit about me before I even walked in here so there’s no need to pretend as if you like me I don’t like any of you on this table either, but having you guys around is good for the business which is why I’m keeping you all.”
I wasn’t one that loved beating around the bush especially when it came to business so I prefer it to be direct and blunt.
Even though I really got that, one of the men stood up to his full-height, which wasn’t quite tall. He was still practically at my chest area if I stood up as well. He placed his hand passionately on his chest and began to talk about how they would never say a single bad thing about me. I waited for him to finish his little speech and finally settled down, practically dripping in sweat and the other men were nodding with him.
But I wasn’t really concerned about their likeness for me, it was people like them that had made things really hard for me, while I had been trying to make it to the top.
People that wanted to keep any position of power in the mafia.
Even though they were much older than me, none of them have been able to have any kind of achievements that I had at such a young age, and I knew that was more than enough to give them sleepless nights, rolling in their beds and nagging their wives.
But like I told them before, they were useful to me so I was going to keep them…for now.
“Alright then…” The one across from me said.
“We were all going to ignore it and mind my own business, but we were curious…about your choice of partner tonight.”
So they called me to talk about Gonzales’ daughter, well this was definitely going to pop up eventually but I hadn’t expected it to be this fast.
I guess they were a little too curious to allow proper thinking to be involved in their thoughts.
“She isn’t just my date for tonight,” I responded calmly, hoping that that was more than enough to elaborate for them because I did not feel like wasting much breath.
All of them immediately had their Jaws on the floor.
“But we thought that… we thought that you hated her father, and we even heard that she was going to get married to one of his close friends too…”
“And she did, but a disaster happened that same day and we were surprised to see her in your arms tonight. I’m sure everyone was as well.”
“She did got married to that bastard Romero, but now she had been unfortunately widowed, but now, she’s with me,”
The men around me looked as if they were trying to swallow down a piece of broken bottle down their throat.
I knew that they were obviously disappointed because many of them have been trying to match me with their daughters or nieces or whatever, but I haven’t given them a second glance.
“Are you sure that she’d make a good partner for you? She looks rather daft, like all those beauty but no brain-”
The man that was at my right side did not get to spout all the nonsense completely that was before I grabbed a bottle of champagne from the neat pile before me and slammed it on the table in the middle of us.
“I’m sorry but can you repeat that?”
