Mia’s POV
The moment his blue eyes focused on me like laser rays, I felt a bolt of awareness course through my body instantly.
He had not really paid me much attention after I had stepped out of the spa, or while I was getting ready, because he had been so focused on his phone.
But now that he was looking at me like this, it was as if it was the first time he was seeing me. I instantly felt self conscious, because even his men would see how he was literally trying to drill a hole through my body with his eyes alone.
It was so bad that one of them had to walk up to him and ask him if they were going to the party or not.
He seemed to have woken up from a dream as his eyes snapped over to the tall man that had spoken to him.
“I don’t remember saying that we weren’t going, so of course we are all going. All of you should get ready…”
He then turned over to me and he looked like he was about to say something, but his eyes only once again raked my entire body up and down, right before he averted his gaze and hastily opened the back seat door for me, at first I was a little shocked by this gesture. because I had expected him to allow me to open the door the way he always did whenever I rode with him, so I was surprised to see that he was doing such a gentlemanly thing.
“Don’t think too much of it,” He warned as if reading my thoughts, snapping me out of my own imaginations.
“I just thought that we should get some practice before we make it to the party so it feels more natural…now get in…”
I thanked him in a quiet voice and slipped into the car, feeling extremely embarrassed. I was feeling more self conscious than fear when I was around him and I wondered if that was a good thing or made it even worse to be around him.
Well, at least it no longer felt like my life was constantly hanging on his thread and I was grateful for that.
However I was feeling a different kind of fear when I realised that I was going to a public event tonight. Getting dressed and pampered had been fun but when my mind returned back to reality, I sobered up instantly, remembering that I would have to spend an entire evening interacting with dozens of strangers.
I instantly began to panic. I don’t do well with socializing, that was Maeve’s specialty and not mine. I was already feeling nervous as hell even though I had not arrived there yet.
Even though my relationship with Lorenzo was not as lucky as it had been before, when we had met for the first time, I knew that I was practically asking for him to dice me into little pieces if I told him that I wasn’t interested in going to this party any longer, so I planted my most realistic plastic smile on my face and was determined to keep it like that.
This was not easy because the moment we stepped into the mansion where the party was being held, all eyes instantly fell on us and Lorenzo was practically basking in the attention like somebody that was having a sunbath. I was desperately looking for the nearest hole that I would be able to crawl into and hide myself.
But since I couldn’t do that, I held his arm tightly and stayed close to him, wearing a fake as fuck smile and politely nodding to people. He tensed up beside me for a moment, but it was only for a fleeting second,? and then he became relaxed again. He glanced down at me and smiled at me a little, and I felt my stomach flutter.
For a foolish moment, I flattered myself with the thought that maybe he was doing this to reassure me and to help me calm down, but then I remembered that we were under the gaze of many people and he was probably just doing it for show.
This reality had sunk deeper as he pulled me from one-on-one conversation to another. The drink that was being served at this party was obviously very heavy and some people were smoking openly what I could guess was not ordinary cigar. Most of the words being spoken around me were just flying over my head and I wasn’t able to catch most of them. Lorenzo already instructed me on what to do when I came here.
“Be polite, smile, don’t accept a drink from anyone… and do not leave my side.”
I was to stick to his side and if I was asked any question he would answer it for me. All I had to do was walk around with him and look pretty.
That advice had seen a little bit degrading before as I was tempted to ask him If I was nothing but a doll on his arm, but on entering the party, I had remembered just how much I hated talking with strangers, especially strangers that inhaled and exhaled a dangerous aura that made me feel as if I was being suffocated, so I felt grateful that I didn’t have to talk with any of them.
The man who appeared to be the host of the party soon bounced over to us. He had a scar on his face that ran over from his right ear down to his bottom lip and he was dressed in a thick coat. Despite the fact that he had that scar on his face, he still looked quite handsome
But not as handsome as Lorenzo, a voice whispered in my ear.
Then I instantly wondered why I was comparing Lorenzo to other men, even though he was mouth-wateringly gorgeous, I wasn’t expecting anything to happen between us after all, this was nothing more than an act between us and just because he was playing it far more better than I had expected didn’t mean that I was supposed to start catching feelings, especially for a man that had kidnapped me.
“I see that you brought a plus one.” The man wearing the scar said as he turned over to me.
“… And a very beautiful one at that, sometimes I wonder which is better for your high taste in business or beautiful as fuck women…”
The man with a scar after saying this began to laugh, but when he saw that there was a straight poker face on Lorenzo’s face, his laugh slowly died in his throat.
“Are you done yet?”
