Mia’s pov
“Wake up! wake up!”
I doubted that I slept for up to 10 minutes before I was abruptly woken by somebody’s irritated voice and then I felt a cold hand brush against my bare arm.
I blinked my eyelids open. The person in front of me or rather by my side was my kidnapper, looking thoroughly annoyed as usual with the scowl that I always found on his face if he wasn’t wearing his trademark smirk that was far too big for it.
Here we go again.
“We are here,” he informed me as he stepped out and I didn’t need anyone to whisper into my ears to follow him before I did. When I looked around, civilization was gone and we were surrounded by a forest.
I was scared that if he shot me here, then the echo of the gunshot would be hard to hear from further distances where someone would be able to catch it with their ears.
But then again, that fear was quenched with the not-so-relieving reality that even if he wanted me dead, he wouldn’t have bothered going through such precautions as taking me into the woods and burying my body after it was done.
I had a feeling that he could even put me in his fireplace and no questions would be asked and that’s what scared me more than him actually shooting me and sending me here.
As one worry left my mind, another one was quickly rushing over to take its place as if I could not have a single second of peace, even though I tried to keep myself quiet, I knew that at some point he was hearing how rapidly my breathing was becoming, after a while, I even became conscious of my racing heart even though I knew he couldn’t hear it.
Dry leaves and twigs snapped under my sneakers as I walked along with him, trying to avoid stray branches of trees, with only the moonlight to give me some vague silhouette of the man that I was following from behind.
Sometimes between intervals, he would glance back at me, and his blue eyes would gleam like dim torches in the dark, then he would scold me as if I was just a toddler, telling me to work faster.
He was making some other complaints that I could not comprehend, but I increased my pace regardless. I tripped over a fallen branch of a tree and I screamed as I closed my eyes, waiting for the impact of my face slamming against the hard ground, as there was no way that I could revert to my proper standing position with the way I had tripped.
I waited for what felt like hours for the inevitable pricks of little twigs and the soil smearing against my skin, but nothing happened. That was when I dared to carefully open my eyes and I realized that I was hanging mid-air, and that was because somebody had their hands wrapped around my waist.
Even though he was the only person that was close by I was still expecting to see someone else when I looked up at him, because I just couldn’t connect him doing something this nice to me in my head. He was looking down at me, his brown hair had fallen across his face, and for a moment I thought that a glint of worry flashes across his face.
But it was only for a moment and then it was gone as if it had been wiped away by a storm and I wondered if I even saw it before or if I just wanted to and imagined it up.
“Are you always this clumsy and sluggish or are you just being so tonight to annoy me?”
I found my lips moving but no words were coming out. They were just splitting open to reveal mumblings which I hoped he would understand and take as an apology, he sighed tiredly and then suddenly forced me back onto my feet.
It was a little embarrassing because I was beginning to get butterflies from the way he was holding me, like the way prince will hold their princesses in storybooks, but as he grabbed my hand and began to pull me along the woods with that scowl on his face, I was reminded quite clearly that he was no prince, and he did not see me as a princess either.
Finally, we came up to a clearing and then I saw a huge warehouse, even in the darkness I could see just how dejected the building looked and that could be associated with the fact that it had been obviously out of use for quite a while.
My mind did not get the time to think of another absurd reason why he would have brought me here before he started pulling me towards the warehouse until we were finally inside.
When we finally got inside, the lights came on in the warehouse and I was able to see the hefty and sluggish looking men that were waiting, I found myself unconsciously inching behind the back of my kidnapper.
As much as he had proven to me that he was not exactly a good person, at least I knew that he would not snap my neck at the very next second, which was the kind of energy that I was now getting from those built men.
There were about eleven of them, all of them looking very healthy and bulky as if they lived, slept, and breathed in the gym without any break. I was intentionally impressed with the way he walked in with such a heavy air of confidence.
As he was approaching them, his eyes seem to scan across the warehouse as if he was looking for something, then when he seemed satisfied his eyes came back to the hefty men In front of him
“Boss, you came…” One of the hefty men spoke as he was finally standing in front of them, and he just laughed and said.
“Well, you were expecting me to walk into this trap after all, right?”
