Lorenzo’s POV
I can’t remember the last time that my hand was situated on a trigger and I had hesitated to pull it. Of all people I could hesitate before pulling the trigger, it had to be her of all people.
The daughter of that bastard Gonzale.
How did such a piece of crap manage to have such a beautiful daughter? I was totally stunned by her beauty. She had curves in all the right places that could make any man lose his mind and when those tear filled, green-doe flickered up at me, I thought I was going to lose my mind.
As I closed my eyes and leaned on my bed, the only thing I could see behind my closed eyes, was the image of that girl crying.
This was the first time in years that someone had gotten in my head and that irritated me so much.
Normally, watching someone cry while they begged for their life was something that sent a tantalizing feeling down my spine and gave me shivers and pleasure knowing that I had their life on the line and my finger on the trigger had been the one to end their useless life.
But tonight, I hesitated.
Why?
I muttered at myself as I grabbed my pillow and punched it as if it was Gonzale himself.
Then when I closed my eyes again I didn’t see her; rather I saw a woman that I had loved with all of my heart; my mother.
That was the night that I caught my father torturing a man who had tried to snitch on him to the police. The man’s pained screams played with my ears as I held onto my mother.
I had said in what was only slightly higher than a whisper.
“Mommy, why did it have to be hurting that man like that?”
“My love, it’s because that man who your daddy practically picked up from the streets was going to betray him…”
From a young age, my parents did not hide the truth from me, the fact that I was The heir to a deadly mafia gang, was something that I had to be reminded of every day.
“Mummy, does that mean that I have to hurt someone like that in the future?”
She didn’t answer immediately and just pressed my head on her shoulder as she carried me.
“My love, you must be very tired…after all, it is past your curfew,”
“Mummy, I don’t want to hurt anybody!”
I said when she finally dropped me, and she looked down at me with loving coal eyes.
“My son, your father and I would never force you to do what you don’t want to, but I’m afraid that someday you will have to grow up and understand that in this world it is either you hurt someone or they’d hurt you first…”
Back then just the mere thought of violence was enough to make my stomach twist up and bale rise up to my throat.
Ironically, that wasn’t the case any longer.
I turned away from her and hugged my pillow.
“You are wrong, mummy,” I had told her, as nothing more than a naive foolish child and she had sighed heavily, placing a soft kiss against my forehead and whispering in my ear; “Someday you’ll understand my love,”
I had no idea that that day would be that very night, as I was soon woken up by the sound of gunshots and then my nana washed over to my bedroom frantically and her eyes wide.
“Lorenzo!” She called me and then I calmly sat up on my bed. I was not panicking because hearing gunshots was a normal thing in my home.
However panic began to creep its way into my heart when I saw how frightened my nanny looked and then seeing the huge stain of blood on her apron that she always wore my heart skipped a few beats.
Before I could even wrap my head around this situation she grabbed me by my wrist and pulled me out of my bed.
“Nanny, what is happening?” I asked her as my lips trembled and my heart pounded against my small chest but she told me that there was no time to explain, and rushed me out of the bedroom.
“Nanny, what about mummy and Daddy…”I asked her. She froze for what felt like only a millisecond before she told me that she was taking me to them and immediately started dragging my hand again as if she was trying to pull it out of the joints.
Everywhere I went there were corpses on the ground and blood covering the walls more than the paint underneath them. I felt like crying and throwing up at the same time but the way I was being desperately pulled did not allow me to do either.
When finally my nanny stopped I was standing in front of two unfamiliar men with disgusting smirks on their faces. I soon came to discover that both men were named Gonzale and Romero.
“I brought him to you just like I said I would…”
My Nanny said to them and suddenly pushed me towards them with almost enough force to send me to the floor but I managed to maintain my balance.
“Yeah, I can see it in those disgusting blue eyes…” Romero had said, pulling out the cigar that was between his thick pig lips.
“That’s Dominico’s little bastard all right…”
I was looking back at my Nanny with fear in my eyes.
She was not able to see my eyes and her eyes fell in shame, that was when Gonzale grabbed my head and twisted it back to look at them.
“Isn’t it obvious you little brat that she told you to save your own skin!”
I felt my heart sink down to my stomach, but I could already feel that the night was going to get even worse than it currently is. Suddenly, my mother and father were dragged in with ropes on their neck like animals.
“Hey buddy, you’re not looking so bright today. Are you under the weather or something?” That bastard Gonzale had said to my father before he delivered a punch right under his ribs that sent blood spilling out of his mouth.
My mother was closer to naked than dressed and I couldn’t bring myself to imagine the horrible things that they had done to her before dragging her into that living room, then when they had finally tortured my parents to their satisfaction they tossed their corpses in front of me.
“Shouldn’t we kill the little bastard?”
Romero told Gonzale as they saw me crying over my parent’s corpses, Gonzale shook his head.
“Well I don’t want to do it. Personally, I’m planning to have kids soon. It might bring bad luck,”
They hadn’t known they were making the biggest mistakes of their lives at that moment.
After that, they told their men to set the house on fire but I was able to escape the flames.
With a heart burning for revenge.
