Mia’s POV
Every time the vehicle met a bump on the road, my entire body bounced along with my heart, and every swerve left me slamming against the closest surface that was next to me.
Why is this happening to me? have I not suffered enough in my life? I asked myself inwardly.
Fresh tears began to gather in the corner of my eyes, even if they were going to kill me in the end, did they have to put me through this much torture before they would end my miserable life?
I squeezed my eyes shut as a sudden blinding light entered my eyes when the boot of the car was opened.
Before I could have just myself that somebody reached forward and grabbed me pulling me out of the boot roughly and the only time I was given a chance to get my bearings was when I was standing again in front of that man.
I was just gaping at him like a fool, wondering if he was a real person or a beautifully carved sculpture that had come to life.
In my speechlessness, I was shoved down to my knees so hard that pain shot up my knees sharply.
Despite that, I was quite sure that I would have fallen down to my knees by myself even if they had not pushed me, by just looking at him.
He radiated an intense and dominating energy through every inch of his tall frame.
I had never met a man that was that handsome, not like I’ve met a lot of men in my life. I still saw so many models and popular male celebrities on TV and also in magazines and nobody held a candle to the man that was sitting in front of me.
I realized that he had been staring at me even more intensely than I felt an intense feeling of fear slide over me, which made me duck my head.
My heart immediately skipped several beats as he jerked my head up harshly, holding my gaze while pulling out a gun from his pocket, in the same casual manner that somebody would pull out their phone to check their email or something like that.
My cheeks which had finally dried up were once again wet with my tears that had started rushing down them like two waterfalls.
“Please don’t kill me,” I pleaded shakily with the handsome but deadly stranger.
His eyes suddenly shifted just the slightest bit that it could have been so easily overlooked, but I was able to see it. It was like seeing a block of ice softly melt.
I continued to cry until I was sure that I was starting to get on his nerves, telling from the sudden clench of his jaw and the narrowing of his piercing blue eyes that never left my face for a second. It brought upon me an intense feeling of mortification because I hated when people looked at me with this much attention, the limelight was really never the place for me.
The limelight was for my twin, Maeve.
I was always happy to be in the shadows.
It was funny how I could still feel embarrassed when I literally had a man who looked like he would snap someone’s neck for adding too much sugar in his coffee while they served it, holding a gun pointed at my head and his finger inches away from the trigger.
His finger remained there for several seconds until he finally huffed out a breath and raked his free fingers through his shoulder length hair in what I’d term as frustration.
He growled under his breath before he finally lifted his head up as he spoke, without mincing his words. “Get out…”
The moment those words left his mouth, my legs instinctively picked me up and then when he saw that I was getting up, his eyes turned into snakes and once again he raked his fingers through his hair, he seemed to do that every time he was annoyed.
“I wasn’t talking to you…” He snapped and terror slammed into me as hard as I instantly fell down on my knee, as if I had never left the ground for a second, and then his eyes flicked towards his men.
“… the rest of you… get out,”
The men immediately scurried out as if they had just been told that there was a bomb in the room, and in only a couple of seconds the only person left was me.
And also this unbearable silence as well, it was finally broken as he grunted and asked me.
“How old are you?” I blinked at him in confusion for a moment, eyes widening a little.
In a normal situation, I should have been able to answer this question in only a couple of seconds but knowing fully well that there was still a gun resting on his lap that will end my life. I stuttered a bit.
“I’m e-em… I’m…I’m…”
“Are you retarded?” His voice was sharp and low.
“It’s a simple question, which needs a simple answer, before you stretch my patience.” He warned.
“I’m eighteen!” The answer may have jumped out of my mouth when I saw his fingers straying back to the gun.
“That young?” He asked without any particular emotion in his voice, and then his eyes finally left mine and I thought I could finally rest from his intense gaze, leaving shivers all over my body.
“You look a little too mature to be just eighteen…”
“But, I’m really eighteen…I haven’t experienced anything in life! I stayed indoors all day…I haven’t even had my first ki…”
His eyes suddenly darkened the moment I landed on the last word, like the eyes of a predator that was about to pounce on its prey. Then he suddenly shook his head as he stood up while combing his hair back with his fingers and holding the gun with the other.
He walked over to me and tipped my chin upwards with the tip of the gun. My heart was hammering against my chest harshly.
“Well, that’s just too bad, sweetheart.”
A cold shiver began to race down my spine, as he towered over me, flooding my body with a wave of emotions that I had never felt before.
“.. tonight, you are going to die…” he said in a voice that was void of any emotion.
“And I don’t care if you cry till your eyeballs fall out from their sockets, but I will definitely end your life tonight. So say your last prayers now…”
“Why?” I asked him helplessly as the tears began to rush more uncontrollably than before knowing that my demise was approaching me.
He seemed to be irritated by my tears as he tilted my chin higher making sure I couldn’t control my neck.
“Do you want to know why I am going to kill you?”
A wicked smirk covered his face.
“You will soon find out, so patience sweetheart…patience..”
He finally took his gun away, shouldering me hard as he walked past me, resulting in me falling sideways. I struggled to catch my breath with the terrifying thought that my life would end tonight
