They both stood up from the ground.
Grace thought he had finally come to his senses. “Let’s go. I’ll go back with you. Whether you want to confront Alexander or just focus on being the alpha of the Frost Moon Pack, once you’ve made up your mind, you can start a new life.”
Maggie also said the same to her. As long as she made up her mind, whether she stayed in the Frost Moon Pack or returned to the Blue Moon Pack, whether her final choice was Ethan or Marvin, she was ready to embrace a new life with everyone.
She wanted to convey the essence of these words to Ethan: Regardless of whether you were in the mud or the abyss, when you decide to step into normal life, there will always be someone supporting you and accompanying you. As long as you want to turn back, there will always be someone as your backing.
Ethan didn’t answer whether it was good or bad. “I want to take a look at the sunset my mom last saw.”
“Let’s go.”
Then they walked towards the setting sun.
“Would you consider going back to the Blue Moon Pack?” Ethan asked her.
“Maybe, but the Grand Elder is awake now. I might stay by his side to take care of him.”
When Ethan heard the Grand Elder, he fell silent. He wasn’t sure how to discuss the Grand Elder with her, just as Alex probably didn’t know how to talk to him about his mother. Those who did wrong always inevitably felt more guilty.
“How did he wake up?”
“Maggie is now the Moon Goddess. She used the power of the Moon Goddess to awaken him.”
Talking about Maggie, Ethan felt a bit resentful. “Aldrich is such a lucky guy. Every Luna he has brings him good fortune.”
Grace never thought she could bring good fortune to Aldrich. “I didn’t do anything.”
“Did Maggie also see my mom for the last time?”
“Yes, she used her power at that time to remove her shackles.”
“I should thank her.”
“Perhaps if she didn’t do that, you could still see your mother for the last time.”
“It doesn’t matter. I really wanted to see her, but this is not the scene my mom hoped for when she wanted to see me.”
“Leaving like this is not what she wanted.”
“It doesn’t matter to anyone’s wishes. I did a lot of malicious things. She probably didn’t want me to become a scheming villain in the dark, but I didn’t live according to her wishes. Alex is the same. Alex probably didn’t become the person his grandmother and mother hoped he would be.”
Grace touched his hand. “Don’t dwell on it. Come back with me.”
But Ethan didn’t want to go back. His hopes were shattered, destroying everything about him-his will, his goals, and ideals. It even extinguished his instinct for survival. “Why didn’t the Grand Elder tell everyone that I used you to seriously injure him?”
Grace didn’t understand why he brought up this question again. “Because he wants to give you a second chance.”
“But I don’t need a second chance.”
“What do you mean?”
“If the first chance didn’t get me the result I wanted, then I don’t need a second chance. The first chance used up all my chips, so I’ll only bet on the same thing. Even if I fail and lose everything, as long as I win, I’ll get benefits beyond your imagination. I’ve bet all my chips together, so I can’t possibly have a second chance.”
Grace sensed something amiss in this statement. She was about to advise Ethan when she suddenly saw him grow claws and charge at her. Without even thinking, she pulled out a short knife from behind and pierced through Ethan’s left chest with precise muscle memory. Grace, terrified, let go of the handle of the dagger, and Ethan, pierced through the heart, fell like a bird with a broken wing.
Before he hit the ground, Grace caught him again.
“Why would you do this?” She held the bleeding Ethan tightly in her arms. “I clearly told you that there could be a second chance. Why do it this way?”
Even a betrayer like her, after going through so much storm and finding a new home, didn’t understand why Ethan was so stubborn.
“Is winning and losing so important to you? That you would rather die than accept that you lost. You could have won it back in the future, why?”
Her tears finally flowed genuinely for herself, Ethan thought.
“Don’t be sad…” he said intermittently. “I’m just going to see my mom. Don’t be sad for me. I’m sorry for involving you in my messed-up life. I always wanted to tell you that the few months you spent with me were happier than many years of my past life. Although I didn’t make you comfortable, you brought me everything I hadn’t seen before-abundant emotions, sincere words, and your eyes more dazzling than gemstones. Meeting you was my last stroke of luck.”
But it was also the unfortunate beginning for you, sorry, Grace. If I had known earlier, I wouldn’t have let the situation become like today. But I’m not a deity, I don’t have the ability to foresee. So, by continually hurting you, I stole a chance for you to be with me, even though for you, it’s not companionship but imprisonment.
“I want to give you one last gift, I hope you’ll accept it.”
Half-wolf, half-vampire, can also transform back into purebred werewolves and vampires, as long as another person with the same constitution is willing to give them blood and life. The deity will respond to this request and turn the blessed lucky one back into a purebred werewolf or vampire.
“Take my blood, go back and tell the Grand Elder, let him perform the ceremony for you.” His life was rapidly fading, so each of his words was faint and barely audible. Grace needed to lean against his ear to hear what he was saying clearly. “You can turn back into a werewolf, no longer be discriminated against, no longer be troubled by blood and sunlight. I will plead with the deity to forgive your pain. The Grand Elder knows what to do, and you can finally go where you want.”
He murmured, “We can all go back to where we want to be.”
Mother’s embrace, so warm and familiar. He had never felt that warmth, but it should be like this-forceful and reluctant power, all entering his body. He felt happy now, happier than any moment since birth.
“Grace.” This was probably the last time he called her. He no longer used that frivolous tone to call her little wolf cub but earnestly called her by her name. “Do you remember what you said before? Is it still valid?”
Grace, with teary eyes, pressed her ears against Ethan’s chest. “What did I say?”
“Will you dance on my grave?”
I never had the chance to invite you to dance while alive. After death, I at least want to see you bloom for me once.
Grace desperately held back the urge to cry. “I will, for sure.”
