Chapter 198 His Place and Wendy is Off-Limits

Wendy pursed her lips. “Yeah, I came back early today,” she answered as
Henson tailed her to sit on the sofa together.
Daisy had brought a few pastries and fruit over as a gift for them.
The three of them didn’t move for a while but Daisy was the first one to break the silence. “I swung by your company to look for you just now but heard Dayne say that you had plans in the afternoon and had left long ago. So, I phoned your driver and he told me you were at home, so that’s why I came over. I didn’t interrupt anything, did I?” she asked.
“Not at all, we just got home actually,” Wendy hurriedly answered.
He had an inkling that Daisy had come over to ask about something, so he wanted her to cut straight to the point. “I’ll have you know we WERE in the middle of something just now,” he huffed and
crossed his legs. “Why are you here on your own? Where’d Mason go?”
Daisy lowered her eyes at that. “I can’t be here alone?” she muttered with a trace of salt in her voice.
“I’m sure you know how inconvenient it is for my brother to travel around, so if you came by yourself while leaving him at home, you’re just inconveniencing him,” he said.
“It’s not like I’m his nanny or anything. Plus, with so many people at home, why should I be the one to stay cooped up at home all the time?” she countered while biting her lip.
After sensing that she’d become somewhat agitated by his question, Wendy turned to him to shoot him a glare. “Have you had your dinner yet, Daisy?” she asked.
This caused Daisy to turn to look at her and her voice was much gentler now. “Unfortunately not,” she replied.
“That’s great, then. We haven’t had our dinner yet too,” Wendy said and pointed to the dining table. “I just finished preparing a few dishes too, so you can join us for dinner if you don’t mind,” she offered.
“Perfect then. I’ve been hearing only good things about your culinary prowess for a long time now. You told me last time during our barbecue that grilling wasn’t considered a skill, so I’m honoured to be able to finally taste your cooking today,” Daisy complimented and nodded.
While the two of them walked towards the dining table, Henson, on the other hand, merely stared at them in annoyance.
He eventually made his way there as well.
He’d almost forgotten about the incident in the afternoon after their bout in the sheets just now,
but after his gaze fell on Wendy’s food once more, he shot her a sideways glance.
Upon noticing his gaze on her, she felt somewhat guilty as she turned to Daisy. “They’ve been left out in the open for some time now, so what say I zap them in the microwave for a bit first?” she asked.
At this, he sat himself down next to her and snapped, “No need for that. it’s not that cold. Let’s just eat it as is,”
Daisy, who was admiring the dishes on the table, pursed her lips and cooed, “These dishes look so light, it’s as it they were specifically prepared just for me,”
“Wendy prepared all of this for me,” he interjected right away.
This caused Daisy to feel somewhat awkward. “You’re no better than a child. It was just a passing remark, so why’d you have to interject like that?” she lamented.
He wasn’t ruffled by her comment at all as he raised an eyebrow. “What seems to be the problem between you and Mason again?”
Wendy, on the other hand, wondered why he straight up assumed that Daisy had gotten into a fight with Mason.
Daisy bit her lip and didn’t say anything for a while. “I… really don’t feel like going back home these few days, Wendy, so can’t I stay here for a bit?” she asked eventually.
Wendy didn’t know how to respond after being put on the spot like that. Why was she asking her for permission? It wasn’t like she owned the place.
“This won’t do. She’s in no position to make decisions in this household,” he said gruffly.
This time it was Wendy’s turn to glance at him sideways. She knew the place didn’t belong to her but who was it who also told her that she was the hostess of this household when they were upstairs just now?
“Henson’s such a two-faced freak. He’s always one face in front of others, while another when with me,” she thought grumpily.
She also wondered why he was so adamant on cutting off his past relationship with Daisy in front of her.
“Why can’t Wendy make a decision in here? Isn’t she your girlfriend, so why is it that you don’t allow her to make decisions for you when you’re so obviously living together?” Daisy retorted with her eyebrows raised.
Wendy also turned around to look at him.
She was also interested to see how he could get himself out of this mess.
He remained as calm as ever even in the face of being confronted. “Indeed, she is my woman and we do live together, and I let her voice out her opinions in this house, but I won’t allow her to make decisions when it concerns you. She isn’t your guardian, you know, so you’ll have to go to Mason to ask for his permission instead. So long as he agrees to it, I’ll have a few servants clear out a room for you,” he explained.
After finally understanding what he meant by that,
Wendy averted her gaze and returned to her food.
She was satisfied with his answer, as she didn’t have to tell Daisy her answer upfront now.
It was said that if two men ride horses, one must ride behind.
She might not be the woman of his house, but after staying there for so long, it’d definitely be weird if someone of the same gender, especially the person Henson longed for before this, were to stay over indefinitely.
But of course, there would be no problems with her staying over anymore if she had her own building to stay in, as this would confer less pressure to the couple.
“I can make my own decisions. I don’t need him to butt in to my personal matters,” Daisy muttered dejectedly.
“You don’t have a say in this. I hope you understand that I don’t want to irk Mason over this whole thing,” he said flatly.
Daisy bit her lip and lowered her eyes. “I’m just telling you that I’m not returning home tonight. If you don’t want me here, I’ll just go to a hotel for the night,” she said.
“What on earth did my brother do to you?” he asked.
“Don’t ask. I’m sure you’re aware that I’m not the type of person who likes to kick up a fuss for no reason. I’m also not in the best of moods and could use some time to cool off now,” she snapped.
He then looked to Donald the butler and requested, “Have a few people tidy up Master Mason and Madam Daisy’s building, will you?”
“Understood, Master Henson. I’m on it right away,” Donald obliged and left
“I don’t feel like staying in such an empty place tonight,” Daisy whined out of frustration.
Wendy merely munched on her food without making a peep after hearing that.
She understood what she meant by that immediately, and hoped that he could read between the lines too.
“Then, you should ask Howell if HE could lend you a room. If he can’t, then you can either stay by yourself, or go back home as I’m sure you’ll feel uncomfortable staying in the same building as me.
“After all, you know what happens when a man and woman get together, right? I certainly wouldn’t want Mason to get into a fight with me just because his wife stayed over at my place. So, I’m being considerate of your feelings now so that I don’t have to walk on eggshells whenever I feel like doing some intimate things with my girlfriend at night,” he ranted.
Wendy’s face immediately flushed crimson at that. She then slapped his arm and glared at him. “What do you mean by that?!” she shouted.
“I’m just telling her the truth so that she can avoid embarrassment in the future,” he said.
Daisy let them finish their banter before speaking up again. “I’m afraid you’ve misunderstood me, Henson. What I wanted to ask was if I could borrow Wendy so that she can stay over at my place to accompany me for a few days?”
“Absolutely not. I’m already used to the feeling of someone sleeping beside me every night, so you’ll make me lose sleep if you snatch her away from me,” he huffed then continued eating.
Daisy bit her lip and looked down, feeling worse than before.
Henson had really changed.
She recalled in the past that he’d used to show off girls, flirt and leer at them in front of her just to piss her off,
but she knew that he felt nothing for them at the time.
She was the one who understood him so well, which was why she could so easily see through him,
so why was it that his gaze on Wendy now was shining so brightly?
This scared her the most.
