Chapter 194 Selling Out Little Brother Howell

Book:Mr. Charles's Hidden Wife Published:2024-5-1

Tracy looked visibly stunned after noticing the sheer amount of people looking up at her from the ground.
Wendy was just worried that her ex-boyfriend had also made his way here after hearing the news.
“Liam, you b*stard! You disappoint me!” Tracy screamed at the top of her lungs.
This caused Wendy to slap her forehead and groan. “Of course he’d come,” she thought.
The man was clearly the only lighthouse in her life.
“Please stop this at once, Tracy! Just give me some time. I didn’t want things to end up like this either, but it’s not like I didn’t try to stop it from happening. Believe me, I really tried everything I could just for you,”
The man screamed from below.
“Who am I to you if she’s the one you love then?” Tracy said and started breaking down into tears. “When you were pining for me during my first year in university, you told me I was the most beautiful girl you’ve ever met and that you wanted to hold my hand for the rest of your life. And two months ago, when I asked you about what people said about finding love in university, you told me that the curse of breaking up after graduation won’t apply to our relationship.
“You promised me that you’d marry me after we graduated. You once told me that I was your everything, so why is it that you’ve already found someone new two months later? What am I supposed to think after finding out that this was all a lie in the end?” she shouted between sobs.
Wendy, who was standing behind her, suddenly recalled back to how Gorman had made the same promises to her back then. This also eventually led her back to the moment when she’d caught him and Gill in the act-
She frowned. She didn’t want Tracy’s emotions to be swayed like hers did back then.
This compelled her to exchange glances with Linda then lunge forward to grab hold of Tracy, but this also caused her to start flailing about like a madwoman in her arms.
It didn’t help that she’d been sitting on the ledge too. As she flailed about, her body started to lean forward to the depths below,
pulling Wendy down with her. Linda, who’d also ran forward yelped in shock. And just as she was about to extend a hand to grab hold of the both of them, she noticed a figure beside her reach a hand out to grab one of Wendy’s ankle at lightning speed.
While she was still reeling from her shock, she turned around to see Howell standing beside her, leaning on the ledge, desperately clinging onto Wendy’s ankle.
He tried pulling her up a few times,
but it was impossible to do so with Tracy still thrashing about in Wendy’s grip.
As she continued to struggle, Wendy’s hands could no longer support her and she had no choice but to let her slip away from her grip.
But she still managed to grab hold of one of her hands with her quick reflexes.
As Tracy’s body flailed in the wind, this was the moment she finally realised that she could possibly die from this.
“I-I don’t want to die, M-Miss Evans,” she shouted after panicking for a few moments.
Wendy could only grit her teeth and continue holding on to the girl who was heavier than herself.
Linda managed to rally a few students on the roof to help pull them up, but they didn’t really know they could be of help, so they merely gathered behind Howell in a tug-of-war-fashion.
“Please use up every ounce of your strength, everyone!” she shouted to all the people behind her.
“My hands feel really slippery right now. I don’t think I can hold on for much longer,” he shouted with his eyes closed.
When Tracy heard this, she started kicking her legs about in mid-air, shouting, “Don’t let me go, Miss Evans! Please don’t let me go!”
Wendy suddenly had a bad feeling about this. She started feeling his hands starting to slip away from her ankles due to him sweating up a storm while he shouted in agony.
Just as she felt that it was the end for her, she felt a pair of hands wrap around her waist and hoist her up with a large force.
With this newfound strength, Howell could finally get a breather in.
“Everyone, please use all of your strength on three. One, two, THREE!” he shouted.
With everyone’s cooperation, they finally managed to pull the both of them, who’d almost fell down to their deaths, up back on the roof.
It was only when Wendy laid sprawled out on the roof, all out of breath, that she noticed that Henson had a frigid expression on his face.
He looked like he already had it up to here with her antics.
When he arrived on campus and saw that Wendy wasn’t with the rest of his personal assistants, he walked up to one of them and asked why only the two of them were there for him.
“Miss Bush and Miss Evans should be on their way right now,” The assistants said.
Without thinking too much into it, he turned to stare at the man standing beside her. He looked uber ordinary, was slightly plump, and was exactly as tall as she’d described him to be.
He felt somewhat relieved as he was sure that he wasn’t Wendy’s type at all.
Just as he was about to enter the basketball court, he saw a student run outside.
Upon noticing that they were a student from their faculty, Carmen hurriedly caught up to them. “The lecture’s about to commence, so you won’t be able to enter the court anymore if you leave now,” she reminded.
“A girl from our campus is about to kill herself, Miss Carmen. Our class rep just rallied all the guys in our class to gather our blankets together for her,” he hurriedly explained.
Henson frowned after hearing that. “What’s that have to do with anything?” he asked, skeptical.
“This is all a part of Miss Evan’s plan, since the firefighters haven’t arrived yet,” he explained.
“Miss Evans from our department?” Carmen asked, puzzled.
“Yes, it’s Ms. Wendy Evans from your office,” he answered.
Henson was surprised upon receiving the news. What was Wendy doing at the scene?
“Yeah, she rushed up to the roof with Ms. Linda to save her,” he said.
Henson immediately lost all of his composure after hearing that.
When he’d arrived at the roof and heard Howell say that his hands were slippery and that he couldn’t hold on any longer, only one thought raced in his mind.
He had to save her, even if it came at the expense of his life.
He couldn’t let her fall at all costs. He just couldn’t.
Fear started creeping into his heart now that he thought of it. What would’ve happened if he hadn’t arrived on time?
What would’ve happened if Howell accidentally let her slip from his hands?
This woman… How could she do something so reckless?
Tracy, who had been cast aside suddenly came to her senses and was reduced to a bawling mess.
This caused Howell to stand up and walk up to her to confront her. “Couldn’t you have found a quieter spot to kill yourself? Why did you have to do it at the expense of bringing others down with you? Do you know that you almost killed Miss Evans?” he shouted angrily.
Wendy turned to him and called him by his name
softly while shaking her head at him.
“Don’t you try to stop me, Miss Evans. People like her deserve to be screamed at. I can’t believe she changed her mind the moment she almost fell to her death, even after shouting all that nonsense about wanting to kill herself. What was all that about not being responsible for her own life and not even caring about her parent’s feelings then? A woman who wants to kill herself over a man really deserves at least an earful,” he ranted.
She fell silent and didn’t add anything to that.
What he’d said was true and was probably what everyone was also thinking at the time.
Initially, everyone had set their judgmental gazes on Tracy,
but now that Henson was at the scene, they’d shifted all their attention onto him. They were perplexed at what he was doing there in the first place.
She started feeling guilty as she stared into his chilly gaze, while hearing the whispers from the crowd.
Even after staying with him for so long, she only knew a bit about him, but even she could tell that
he was angry right now. Extremely angry.
He glanced at her sideways, and this made her lower her eyes.
He then spun around to walk towards Howell. “So, you do understand the logic behind this, then why’d you still risk your own life to save a person who thinks she has nothing else to live for? How am I supposed to explain this to our dead parents if something were to happen to you just now?” he scolded.
Howell could only stare at his brother in shock.
What was going on? Why was his own brother selling him out right now?
