Wendy furrowed her brows. “Why is it always ‘what’s in it for me’ from you? Can’t you just help me unconditionally?” She huffed.
“I could, but that came with the condition of you being my wife, but since you didn’t agree to my hand in marriage, I’m just taking advantage of the situation to increase my odds. I am a businessman after all, and I won’t tolerate any losses,” Henson said.
“What businessman? An evil one, more like,” she scoffed.
He didn’t get angry at her remark but laughed instead. “In that case, what can I, an evil businessman, get in return if I help you out?” He asked.
“You tell me. What do you want?” She asked back.
“I’ll tell you when we’re upstairs,” he teased and flashed her a sly smile.
and flashed her a sly smile.
Upon seeing his devilish grin, she knew deep inside her heart that he didn’t harbour any good intentions towards her.
After dinner, he received a call from Dayne, so he excused himself to settle a few work matters.
She, on the other hand, returned to her room to take a bath and to read.
It wasn’t until the clock struck nine that he stepped into her room to see her reading on the bed. The moment she saw him come through the door, she sat up and said, “You came at the right time. I need your input on a problem I’m stumped on.”
reading on the bed. The moment she saw him come through the door, she sat up and said, “You came at the right time. I need your input on a problem I’m stumped on,”
He walked over and sat down beside her to take a look at the problem she was referring to in her book.
He didn’t try to solve it, but rephrased the problem to her in another way.
And since she was also quick-witted, she got what he meant in a flash.
He then watched her from the side as she solved the problem in no time.
“You’re really smart,” she praised and looked at him with eyes full of admiration.
“I know,” he smirked.
“Oh right, I heard people say you’re going to be a guest lecturer for the university today,” she blurted.
He frowned and asked, “Who told you that?”
She was puzzled with the reaction he gave. “Was I mistaken then? The president’s daughter told me herself,” she explained.
His expression warped into one of displeasure. He’d specifically instructed Burke to keep it a secret, but apparently his daughter couldn’t hold her tongue.
“Well, she’s not wrong,” he muttered.
“Why haven’t I heard you mention it before?” She asked.
“I meant to keep it as a surprise for you, but unfortunately it got ruined early. That woman is truly vexing,” he said out of frustration.
She was speechless. Did he seriously consider this a surprise and not a scare?
“I heard that they’re waiting for you to pick a time, so when do you plan to hold your classes?” She probed.
“From this week onwards, I plan to hold a 1-hour long public lesson every Friday afternoon,” he replied.
“Only one lecture per week?” She exclaimed.
“What makes you think I have so much free time to entertain those kids everyday?” He asked.
“You clearly look like you don’t enjoy doing this, so why’d you agree to it in the first place?” She shot back, confused.
He inched closer to her and gave her a devilish smile.
“I’d do anything so that I can to get closer to you,” he said and raised an eyebrow.
raised an eyebrow. “Every student and staff member in San Diego University are welcome to attend my lecture, so when the time comes, you better be there,” he smirked.
She didn’t know what to say to that. “I won’t,” she declined after a while.
He then inched closer to her to tease her more. “Or do you only want to listen to my lectures when we’re in bed?” He asked.
Her face flushed bright red without warning, and she wriggled around with the intent of escaping him.
But before she could, he forcefully grabbed hold of her arm and pressed her onto the bed to give her a kiss on the lips.
As she struggled to free herself, she mumbled, “Henson, don’t,”
“I told you, I won’t force myself onto you so long as you don’t want it, but you owe me this kiss in exchange for me helping you take care of the pamphlet issue,” he teased in a sultry voice and pressed down on her again to go in for a deeper kiss.
pressed down on her again to go in for a deeper kiss.
She closed her eyes to allow herself to get lost in the kiss, but not long after, she came back to her senses and pushed him away with all her might. She then sat upright while clutching her clothes and gave him a sharp glare.
“You’re a liar, Henson,” she spat. He said he’d only kiss her, so why did his hands snake to her…
She flushed as she held on to her clothes tightly. She felt angry yet somewhat embarrassed at the same time.
This was the first time in her life she was touched by a man while sober.
Judy had felt her up while they took a bath together before, but that was totally different from what she was feeling now.
There was a moment just now where she felt ever so numb. It was a strange sensation.
He looked at her and grinned. “Did you feel something just now, Wendy?” He whispered.
“Henson, I swear if you keep spouting nonsense, I’ll hit you,” she threatened while lunging forward to cover his mouth, but
but he leaned back in a nonchalant manner instead. “Sure, do your worst. No one’s stopping you,” he said.
She was at a loss for words. She really wanted him to be the Master Henson everyone adored right now, so why was this creature in his place instead?!
After seeing how frustrated she looked, he smiled as he sat upright to pinch her cheeks.
“You’re incorrigible, woman. Tell me then, what did you two do when you were still with Gorman?” He quizzed.
She rolled her eyes at him and replied, “At least he keeps his word and doesn’t do anything weird to me,”
“I take it that means he didn’t really love you that much then,” he said bluntly.
She shot him a glare. “On the contrary, I’d like to think it was because he respected me then,” she sneered.
“Don’t associate love with respect. I respect you as well. However, if a man doesn’t even have the thought of throwing himself onto a woman he likes, can he still be considered a man?”
“You are full of cr*p,” she scoffed.
“Hey, I’m just speaking facts here. The fact that he managed to hold back was most probably because he thought he couldn’t bear the responsibility of taking care of you after he had his way with you. I’ll have you know that I can, so why don’t you marry me already?” He asked.
She glared at him and shot, “Can’t you say nice words with that venomous tongue of yours? I want to study now, so stop bothering me.”
She then swiftly picked up her book from just now, refusing to talk to him any further.
“He was too good at brainwashing people,” she thought.
Why was it that he would always be speaking nonsense at first, but the more he spoke, the more she thought he made sense and would even agree with him?
He tousled her hair before saying, “Then, I shall go take a shower now,”
She let out a gentle sigh as he walked into the bathroom.
She later placed the book down on her lap and brought a finger to gently touch her lips, her eyes swirling with some confusion.
Why was it that… she seemed to be liking the way he kissed her more and more now? She surmised she must be going insane.
When he exited the bathroom, he saw the tip of her pen peeking out of her exercise book, along with the sounds of scribbling.
He then sat down on the bed and asked, “Anymore questions you’re stumped on?”
She shook her head but piped up after a while, “By the way, that day when we had drinks, did I really meet up with the president’s daughter? And did I actually call her a ghost?”
He thought back to the scene from that night and couldn’t help but laugh. “Yes, you did,” he chuckled.
“What are you laughing about?” She asked.
“At the time, you thought I was being haunted by a ghost. You looked so frightened but still insisted on pulling me aside to protect me. You were really adorable then,” he recalled.
Her face flushed crimson while she glared at him.
Why is it that he always manages to make her feel embarrassed with his words?
What a meanie.
“Don’t you think the president’s daughter is really pretty and that you two would make a great couple? She practically worships you, the stuff of legends in her student exchange circle. It’s obvious that she’s super into you,” she pouted.
A giddy look spread across his face as he smiled. “I didn’t know you looked even cuter jealous than when you’re protecting me,” he teased.
