The towering live broadcast wolf, with its 360-degree rotating live orb, had ceased its movements and was now firmly focused on Aldrich, who was surrounded by the crowd, and Maggie, who looked utterly shocked.
Beside them, the charred remains of the wrecked car still smoldered, filling the once-clean and tidy living room with thick, black smoke.
The BlueMoon Pack, as well as other wolf packs on the northern continent, were all watching Barrett Manor through this live orb.
This interview had started with Mr. Barrett in an apron, showcasing Aldrich’s devoted care for his mate and the baby wolf, sparking waves of discussions about steaks. They thought it would conclude without any unexpected twists. However, it took a shocking turn at the last moment when Aldrich’s brother tried to devour Maggie’s sister!
What was even more astounding was that Aldrich’s chosen mate turned out to be a human who had concealed her identity.
The werewolves were in an uproar, eagerly awaiting an explanation from Aldrich!
The male host knew that this was going to be his most triumphant moment within the werewolf community. He had a sardonic smile on his lips and had already labeled Aldrich and Maggie as culprits in his eyes.
He was confrontational and used biting words, saying, “This was all a carefully planned political deception by Mr. Barrett, wasn’t it? You and this human woman conspired to deceive our wolf pack. Those expressions of love, the mutual choice, even the love for the wolf cubs, they were all just a façade, weren’t they?”
“Nonsense!” Maggie couldn’t hold back her anger.
Aldrich held Maggie back, his back covered in injuries, and Maggie could now smell the burnt scent of his skin. She wanted to check his wounds, but Aldrich didn’t want to scare her, as the injuries were quite gruesome.
He gently restrained Maggie and said, “Don’t move around.”
“Are you in a lot of pain?” Maggie wanted to embrace Aldrich, but she didn’t know which parts of his body were still undamaged and which were causing him pain.
“You being by my side makes it all better,” Aldrich replied as he held Maggie’s hand. He was usually quite stoic when it came to pain, but because of Maggie’s concern, the pain seemed to echo through his heart, something he hadn’t felt in a long time.
This was just a small gesture, but the male host continued his harsh speculations, attacking Aldrich’s reputation, “The most straightforward explanation is that Aldrich Barrett wanted to win the election, but he chose an easily controlled human. There must be some unspeakable secrets hidden in all of this, right?”
Maggie was getting increasingly anxious and wanted to retort multiple times, but Aldrich tugged at her hand to stop her. She vented her frustration, saying, “This is just like the unethical human media!”
“Mr. Barrett, please explain all of this and the presence of this deceptive human woman behind you!” The male host spoke righteously.
Once this werewolf had finished speaking, Aldrich calmly declared, “I admit, my mate is a human.”
His voice was steady and resounding, not rushed or slow, as he delved into his innermost feelings while declaring the final verdict, “Grace and I have parted ways amicably, and we still care for each other as family. As for Maggie, she is the mother of my wolf cubs and my chosen mate.”
“But you deceived everyone about this woman’s identity!”
“Because of the existence of wolves like you, I just want to protect Maggie and keep her safe.”
“No… Mr. Barrett, aren’t you ashamed? You’ve fallen for humans, who are nothing but prey for our kind!”
“Sir, please mind your words. In the Northern continent, werewolves and humans coexist in peace, a hard-won peace achieved by our ancestors’ years of struggle. Dogmas and rules must be strictly followed by every werewolf! Your deeply ingrained prejudice may lead to imprisonment!”
The male host’s extremist beliefs garnered skeptical glances, but he suppressed his panic and tried to remain calm, saying, “But your deception is real, and this woman is incapable of fulfilling the role of a Barrett Manor’s mistress!”
Aldrich scoffed, “As for the deception, I will publicly apologize to all werewolves of The BlueMoon Pack. Regarding Maggie’s suitability as my mate, even the Grand Elder has just shown his approval. Only I can make that decision.”
The male host directed his venomous gaze at Maggie, “You, a great and wise leader, are allowing a lowly human woman to tarnish you and make her one of the leaders of The BlueMoon Pack. We won’t support you, you are not worthy of this election!”
Maggie’s worst fears were realized!
In the beginning, Aldrich, usually rational and cold, had suggested she leave her child behind and accept the check that would have guaranteed her a comfortable life. The agreement that required her to pretend to be Aldrich’s mate came with her willingness to risk everything. From the moment she decided to take that risk, everything was set in motion.
Since all this was because of her, she had to bear the pain.
Maggie released Aldrich’s hand, stepped out from behind him, and bravely defended her right, “Why do you look down on humans? What makes you think that you, standing on two legs, walking upright, not crawling like primitive animals, are superior? The word ‘hypocrite’ is etched all over your distorted face!”
The male host growled at Maggie, “The moment I transform back into a wolf, I can tear you apart!”
“Savage, vulgar, uncivilized, yet I don’t despise you, as it would bring me down to your level!”
“A crafty woman with words!”
The male host was infuriated, and his face began to show hints of a wolf’s features. Aldrich shielded Maggie and took a defensive posture. If things escalated further, it would only make Aldrich’s situation worse!
Fortunately, the Grand Elder intervened.
“Enough, stop this spectacle; it’s ruining the mood today.”
The female host, supporting the Grand Elder, walked closer. The werewolves instinctively made way, and the live orb continued to rotate, with countless werewolves watching this scene on their screens.
The Grand Elder ignored the male host and paid no attention to Aldrich and Maggie. He walked straight to where Marvin was standing stiffly.
“Rash gray wolf, lift your foot,” the Grand Elder said. His voice was the only one heard on the scene.
Marvin’s body reacted faster than his brain. He immediately took a step back, then realized the reason: he had been blocking Alisa, who was injured.
“Wait, Grand Elder…” Marvin tried to intervene.
However, in front of the onlookers, the Grand Elder bent his back deeply for the first time in years, bowing towards Alisa, who was leaning against the wall.
“Human girl, please forgive the discourtesy of The BlueMoon Pack. I deeply apologize for the surprise and pain you’ve experienced. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”
None of the werewolves expected that the respected Grand Elder would show such a profound gesture of respect to this unremarkable human with no background. This level of bowing was typically reserved for top Alphas, not to mention someone of the Grand Elder’s stature. The one who should be apologizing was Marvin, the wolf who had botched the interview!
Marvin’s cheeks felt like the Grand Elder had slapped them hard, stinging. He stammered, “Grand Elder, there’s no need for you to lower yourself like this. This woman is not so innocent; she must have done something, maybe even celebrating inwardly…”
The Grand Elder suddenly raised his voice, “Forgive me, my pack!”
Marvin was left stunned, and all the werewolves watched this scene in astonishment. Alisa, with her disheveled clothes and hair, stood up. Would she accept this sudden apology?
