The expensive sports car emitted a piercing roar as it shattered glass and flowers under its wheels. The crowd panicked and gasped, and everything happened in an instant.
Alisa was in danger!
Maggie paid no heed to the falling glass shards, the impending car explosion, and instead pushed through the crowd in the opposite direction. Aldrich hurriedly grabbed her, saying, “It’s dangerous!”
“Alisa is inside!”
“You stay back!”
Boom!
A loud crash interrupted Maggie and Aldrich’s argument. People dodged and curiously watched the sports car. A grey wolf burst out from the car, carrying a struggling, delicate woman in its mouth!
“Alisa!” Maggie anxiously exclaimed. “It must be a dispute between Marvin and Alisa!”
Aldrich lifted Maggie off the ground and swiftly moved her to a safer area. “Calm down. The car is about to explode!”
Boom!
Another loud explosion! The sports car erupted in flames.
“Goodness, this is incredibly dangerous!” the female host exclaimed.
The male host held the Elder and asked, “Are you okay?”
“Don’t single me out like that. I’m not weak!” the Elder straightened his neck.
“Of course, your hands aren’t shaking either.”
“Young man, being straightforward is situational!”
The werewolf in charge of the live broadcast was fearless and nodded approvingly. “This is so much fun!”
He even approached the burning car for a close-up shot.
The grey wolf still held Alisa in its mouth, and she struggled relentlessly. “Let go of me, you despicable wolf that preys on the weak! Maggie, help me! Marvin is going to devour me!”
The grey wolf was clearly irrational, its paws continually rising and falling on the ground, leaving marks on the tiles. Marvin was desperately communicating with the grey wolf, trying to regain control of his body, but the agitated grey wolf was in full rage.
It wanted this detestable woman to disappear completely!
Maggie couldn’t believe what was happening before her eyes. She pleaded with Aldrich, “Help Alisa! Help me, Alisa can’t be harmed!”
Of course, Alisa couldn’t be killed by Marvin’s grey wolf in full view of everyone!
Aldrich understood the implications this event would have, the endless suspicions and backlash the Barrett family would face, and how it would ruin his campaign!
“Stay here, don’t get closer!” Aldrich admonished Maggie.
However, Maggie’s eyes widened. “No!”
The emotionally uncontrollable grey wolf unexpectedly threw Alisa into the air. Her landing spot was right in the center of the burning car!
Gasps filled the entire building.
Maggie was on the verge of collapsing from the shock. Elizabeth quickly held her, preventing the situation from getting even worse.
“Maggie, save me!” Alisa cried out desperately. She gazed at Maggie, her face streaked with tears. The specter of death seemed to whisper in her ear, telling her that a wicked woman should be consumed by the flames.
Had she made a mistake?
No, Alisa stared at Maggie, determined to make her remember this horrific scene even at the cost of her own life, to sow hatred and an irreparable rift between Maggie and Barret!
“Alisa…” Maggie was in agony, struggling to breathe. She desperately wanted to rush forward but was pulled back by Elizabeth. “Mrs. Barret, you can’t go! Think of the wolf cubs!”
Alisa’s long hair was mercilessly engulfed by the raging flames, and the scorching heat surrounded her. The bright could also make people lose their sight, unable to see anything.
She kept murmuring, “Great Southern Gods, please allow me to return to my hometown, take me back to my warm homeland…”
In the nick of time, a gigantic and valiant silver wolf appeared as if a savior, roaring as it clamped onto Alisa’s waist.
Its fur caught the merciless flames, and the pads on the inside of its paws were burnt black. Amidst the cries of amazement, it quickly carried Alisa out of the inferno.
The crowd burst into applause and cheers.
Maggie, stumbling, pushed Elizabeth aside and rushed toward Alisa. “Alisa, are you okay?”
The crowd gathered around, curious about this girl. The male host astutely declared, “I don’t detect any wolf scent on this girl. She’s a human!”
The werewolves from the live broadcast joined in, focusing their cameras on Alisa and Maggie.
Alisa thought she was on the brink of death but had been miraculously saved. She buried herself in Maggie’s embrace, trembling in fear.
The silver wolf transformed into a human form. Aldrich’s back and arms had extensive burns, and the charred flesh emitted an unpleasant smell. Thomas quickly offered a large robe, and Aldrich draped it around himself before crouching down to comfort Maggie.
“Maggie, let’s take Alisa to a room for now. The doctor will be here soon.”
The grey wolf also finally transformed into human form. Marvin stepped forward, extending his hand to Maggie. “I’ll take her upstairs.”
Hearing Marvin’s voice, Alisa fearfully refused. “No, Maggie, don’t hand me over to this wicked wolf; he wants to devour me!”
Maggie looked at Marvin coldly, her eyes filled with caution and resentment. “Marvin, please stay away from us!”
Marvin, consumed by shame, guilt, regret, and complex feelings toward Alisa, grew increasingly agitated. He reached out to grab Alisa, who was hiding behind Maggie. “At the very least, we can’t let this wicked woman stay here; she’ll ruin everything!”
“It’s you who’s ruining everything!” Maggie snapped, her anger apparent.
Tears streaming down her face, Alisa looked disheveled, her hair wild like a madwoman’s. However, her pitiful eyes were particularly moving, causing all the werewolves present to feel an uncontrollable urge to let out their inner wolf and chase after this tempting prey.
“Maggie, let’s go. The wolves here will eventually devour us. How can humans and wolves be together?” Alisa’s words sent shockwaves through the room.
The werewolves’ gazes toward Maggie underwent a profound transformation: from skepticism to disdain and mockery. They suddenly directed these emotions at Maggie.
Maggie, her heart entirely focused on Alisa, hadn’t realized that her human identity had been exposed. She gently reassured Alisa, “No, I promise you, the werewolves in Barrett Manor will never harm you. Alisa, no one will harm you anymore…”
“No, Marvin is Aldrich’s brother, and he has never hidden his malice towards me. What about you? If it weren’t for the wolf cubs, we would have become food for these wolves a long time ago. Don’t delude yourself. We need to leave here!”
Marvin’s gaze toward Alisa was venomous, and his intense hatred sent shivers down her spine.
Aldrich held Marvin back, conveying a warning through their mental connection. “The wisest course of action for you right now is to leave or take no action at all.”
Maggie helped Alisa stand up, while Aldrich adopted the dignified demeanor befitting the owner of Barrett Manor. He extended an apology to Alisa, saying, “I’m truly sorry for what has happened. We are, after all, family living under the same roof. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive us.”
Alisa shook her head, unable to speak as she looked at Aldrich, her eyes brimming with tears.
At this moment, the male host stepped into the center of attention and stated, “It seems, Mr. Barrett, there might be more than one thing you need to apologize for, isn’t that right?”
Indeed, even though Maggie carried his scent, the werewolves now understood from Alisa’s words that Maggie, like Alisa, was an ordinary human.
Aldrich looked at the interviewing team, the live broadcast team, and the Elder standing not far away. The colossal lie had been exposed, shattering his carefully laid-out campaign.
A strong sense of responsibility and reason told him that this wasn’t the time to worry about the campaign and public opinion. The priority was to resolve the current standoff and minimize the harm that might come to Maggie.
