Chapter 148 Car Accident

Book:Mr. Charles's Hidden Wife Published:2024-5-1

Wendy no longer considered the thought of moving out of the Charles’ mansion.
Just as Henson had said, if she moved out, he’d still follow her, so she might as well stay at his place.
She diverted all her attention to her students instead.
Howell had successfully become a member of the university’s basketball team and had managed to become the main force of the competition.
Owing to his strong leadership, he was appointed to be team leader as he’d managed to impress his seniors in the team.
He’d reassigned everyone’s roles and had been busy ever since the start of the competition.
She felt at ease, knowing that Howell was there with her.
One Friday afternoon, while Wendy was watching the competition unfold on the court, a call from the previous president of the university, Mrs. Taylor, came through.
“Wendy, swing by the hospital for me, would you?” She requested.
“You’re not the boss of me anymore, Mrs. Taylor, so I don’t see why I should obey your orders,” Wendy hissed in reply.
“I’m calling you on behalf of Gorman, by the way,” Mrs. Taylor explained.
“If it’s about Gorman, then you can forget it. I want to avoid getting into trouble especially if Master Henson finds out,” Wendy snapped.
She brought his name up on purpose.
“Just see it as you doing me a favour. You don’t have to meet me, but… could you please go to the VIP quarters in the hospital and pay the patient in bed 2 a visit on my behalf? You know I’ve never begged you for help before, so just this once, can you help me, Wendy? I’m begging you to help me beat some sense into them.” Mrs. Taylor pleaded.
“What did she mean by that?” Wendy thought and knitted her brows.
Why should she be the one to beat some sense into this patient?
“I’m busy,” she replied flatly then
immediately hung up.
Not long after, Mrs. Taylor sent her a text that read, “Wendy, saving a person’s life is surely more important than building a skyscraper, right? If you don’t want my son to die, then go and pay him a visit. I’m begging you.”
She stared at the text and was flabbergasted for a moment.
That patient… What do they have to do with Gorman’s life?
What the h*ll was Mrs. Taylor getting at? And why was she the one who’s confused?
It didn’t matter though, Mrs. Taylor definitely didn’t harbour any good intentions towards her.
She then shoved her phone back into her handbag and continued spectating the competition.
After clocking out in the evening, Baron came to pick her up in his usual car.
But just as they were about to reach the villa, Judy called her.
It’d been a long time since she heard Judy’s voice, so she answered the call with some excitement in her voice. “Heya, Judy!” She greeted.
“Didya hear, Miss Wendy?” Judy asked.
“Hear what?”
“The scumbag’s in trouble.”
“Which scumbag?”
“How many other scumbags have hurt you before? Of course I’m talking about Gorman,” Judy snapped.
Wendy frowned as her mind recalled to how Mrs. Taylor begged her over the phone today.
“What happened?” She pressed.
“He got into a car accident. I heard he might become a cripple,” Judy replied.
Wendy covered her mouth with her hand in shock. It was obvious that she was appalled upon hearing this piece of news.
“You’re kidding, Judy,” Wendy said.
“Why would I joke about such a thing? A friend of mine accompanied Gill, that sl*t, to visit Gorman yesterday, but was chased out in the end. She told me that Gorman looked really scary. Do you think this is karma for his actions? If it is, even I think karma went a bit overboard,” Judy replied.
Wendy fell silent as she didn’t know what to say.
“Earth to Wendy, what are you thinking about?” Judy asked in a sarcastic manner.
“I don’t know either,” Wendy replied.
“Now that I think about it, Gorman actually treated you pretty well in the past as I recall all of us basking in his glory because of you. I feel I would’ve still had a good impression of him if he hadn’t got involved with Gill in the first place. Didn’t you say you planned to marry him after graduating too? If he didn’t do what he did, you two would probably get married by now. But for such a handsome young man to become a cripple all of a sudden, is such a shame, no?” Judy ranted.
……
The car came to a halt in front of the villa.
She didn’t move as she was still processing what Judy had told her just now.
Gorman’s leg had been crippled in a car accident…
She’d be lying if she said she felt completely indifferent to the matter. After all, he was her first love.
And for such a lively and cheerful person to lose his leg, this would surely come as a big blow to him.
She couldn’t imagine it either.
Baron suddenly piped up in the driver’s seat, “We’ve arrived, Miss Evans.”
After coming back to her senses, she ordered him after giving it some thought, “Please drive me to the Hospital, Baron.”
“Now?” He asked.
“Yes, please,” she answered.
“Right away, Miss Evans,” he obliged.
He then drove her to the entrance of the inpatient building, where she entered by herself.
Upon arriving at the VIP ward, she quietly walked to the room where Bed 2 was.
She looked through the glass pane on the door and saw a man lying on the hospital bed. It was Gorman.
He was currently looking at a woman who was standing with her back to the door.
The woman’s back was so familiar to her that she only needed a glance to tell that it was Gill.
“You better get out of here right this second. Who asked you to come? Who asked you to put on a show in front of me now? It’s all your fault that I’m like this now. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t end up like this in the first place! Get out of my sight right now, Gill!” Gorman shouted from the inside.
“You should give up on waiting. She’ll never come visit. Just accept the fact that she doesn’t love you anymore. If she really did, how could she have let this happen to you without giving you a chance to explain yourself after all that’d happened? She didn’t even get into a fight with you over that, right?
“A person who really loves someone won’t act indifferent when they find out that they’ve cheated on them, so wake up, Gorman! Why won’t you just accept the fact that she only dated you out of your persistence, and not because she actually loved you. This isn’t true love, this isn’t true love!” Gill screamed back between sobs.
Wendy clenched her fists ever so slightly at the door.
While wiping her tears, Gill continued, “The one who got you into this mess wasn’t me, but her! Why did you go to campus to find her that day? I bet you wouldn’t have gotten into a car accident if you hadn’t went. And if you didn’t get into a car accident, you wouldn’t have injured your leg. All of this is clearly her fault, so why are you pinning all the blame on me?”
Wendy’s heart tightened. Did he get into a car accident that day when he visited her on campus?
She took a few steps back and felt a pang of guilt at what she’d said to him that day.
Was it all… her fault?
Silence suddenly filled the air in the ward. It reflected Wendy’s heart at the moment.
“I could never blame her, as I’m not qualified to do so. I was the one who pined after her after all, and also the one who hurt her first. So, scram. I don’t want to see your face ever again,” he hissed after a long pause.
Wendy felt her heart tear apart for some reason as she quickly turned around and left the floor.
quickly turned around and left the floor.
After arriving at the ground floor, she hopped into the car and ordered the driver, “Drive us home now, Baron.”
“Alright, Miss Evan,” he obliged.
She didn’t visit Gorman in the end.
She didn’t know how to face him either.
At a time like this, she didn’t know what to say to him.
She felt suffocated,
not because she used to loved him so much, but because… she couldn’t reciprocate his feelings when they were dating, and this had literally cost him a leg.
