Charlie and the attackers were dumbfounded, finding it hard to believe their eyes. Had their eyes deceived them? This girl wasn’t retaliating; instead, she was doing something completely unexpected. It left everyone in shock and struggling to comprehend the situation.
“Miss Nelson, what are you doing? Get back to the safety of the car,” but Charlie was especially stunned. Fifty million dollars vanished in an instant, yet it didn’t diminish the enemies’ formidable power. He was overwhelmed by shock and frustration, trying to make sense of the unfolding scenario.
In a shocking silence, Maggie, heavily pregnant, hunched among the shattered remnants of the once-magnificent statue. With every ounce of her strength, she sifted through the wreckage, determination etched on her face. As she searched amidst the debris, her trembling hands gradually steadied, and the purpose behind her actions remained a mystery to everyone present. Whatever she found, she held onto it tightly, murmuring words that seemed to carry profound meaning.
Charlie watched her with intense focus, fixated on her unwavering determination. He knew that this moment would be forever etched in his memory. Each passing second felt like an eternity, with each scene unfolding, leaving an indelible mark on his mind.
As the tense atmosphere intensified, the attackers exchanged confused glances, their faces a mix of surprise and uncertainty. They had anticipated fierce retaliation but were instead confronted with a woman engrossed in a bewildering ritual, defying their expectations.
Charlie’s thoughts raced, trying to grasp Maggie’s intentions. Was she summoning ancient powers, or was her resolve driven purely by inexplicable forces, determined to protect what she held dear? Questions swirled in his mind, and answers remained elusive.
“I found it!” Maggie tightened her grip on the object she’d discovered, her knuckles turning white. Her eyes gleamed with unwavering determination, reflecting the fire of her thoughts. Although she was aware of the recklessness of her actions, she couldn’t ignore the unexplainable force guiding her. It was as if an invisible hand was directing her every move.
Maggie took a deep breath, stood up, and moved with an unexpected grace. As her gaze locked onto the attackers, the surrounding chaos seemed inconsequential. Her eyes burned with an inner strength that countered her fragile appearance.
“Miss Nelson, don’t delude yourself any further! Get back to the car!” Charlie’s desperate voice echoed through the woods.
Nevertheless, Maggie remained resolute, blocking Charlie’s path. Her fragile form faced the ferocious attackers alone, with fallen wolf guards struggling to crawl toward her. As she gently closed her eyes, the outcome between life and death hung in the balance.
Meanwhile, Aldrich found himself in the same forest. Half an hour earlier, he had concluded a meeting and received the report of Charlie’s successful auction. He and Maggie were on their way back to the mansion, and everything was proceeding according to plan. Yet, Aldrich sensed an unexplained restlessness, like an ocean gathering energy before a storm, restlessly churning. He couldn’t sit in the office any longer; he needed to see Maggie to find his calm.
Charlie left the office early, and as the workaholic CEO transformed into a devoted family man, the employees couldn’t help but share knowing smiles. His remarkable change made them marvel at the irresistible charm of the President’s wife.
As he sat in the car, instructing the driver to return to Barrett Manor, Aldrich felt a suffocating pain. There was only one possible explanation for this unexpected feeling.
“Darlings, guide me…” Aldrich’s hands trembled in his lap.
“Daddy, please save us!”
“We’re in trouble, we’re under attack!”
A mind link formed, and Aldrich’s mind was filled with the urgent pleas of the twins. “The attackers are too powerful; the wolf guards won’t hold out much longer!”
“No! Where are you?” Aldrich couldn’t comprehend how his elite guards had ended up in such dire straits.
“I don’t know, trees everywhere, can’t see the sky!”
“The attackers have cut off our connection to the outside! Daddy, hurry!”
Aldrich couldn’t contain the roaring anger inside him. His beloved partner and their children were in extreme fear and danger, and he was powerless, confined to the safety of the car.
“Move to the passenger seat!” Aldrich opened the car door and took the driver’s seat. He started the car, lips pressed tightly together, and it shot off like an arrow toward the direction closer to Barrett Manor.
His mind was filled with the desperate cries of the children. He gripped the steering wheel tighter.
“Daddy, please, come to us quickly. They’re all down, all of them!”
“Only Charlie is standing in front of Mom. The attackers are too many, too powerful. Daddy, why aren’t you here?”
The cries of the babies abruptly stopped. In his agitation, Aldrich’s car collided with a large tree. The driver shouted, but Aldrich was lost in his thoughts, continuously shouting, “My babies!”
The connection was severed, and Aldrich feared the worst, howling at the sky. Meanwhile, on the other side of the forest, the sky erupted in a brilliant white light, almost illuminating the entire woods.
The driver, too, was blinded by the intense light. “Such powerful energy…”
“It’s Maggie!” Aldrich immediately revved the engine and sped toward the source of the light. He cast aside all dignity and reason, like a desperate gambler, praying to the moon goddess for Maggie and the children’s safety.
In that fleeting moment of life and death, brave Maggie had made the right gamble!
Suddenly, Maggie’s hands emitted a dazzling white light, enveloping Charlie’s body in a warm embrace. He felt as if he were bathing in healing springwater, watching his wounds miraculously close at a remarkable speed. The pain that had consumed him just moments ago began to fade, replaced by a surge of newfound energy. His muscles throbbed with vitality.
“Miss Nelson, this is truly incredible…” Charlie was astonished by the miraculous healing of his heavily injured body.
As Charlie basked in his newfound power, he noticed the attackers, seething with rage, launching a fierce assault on Maggie. This time, they left her no room to counter, and Charlie couldn’t react in time to protect her. “No, Maggie, be careful!”
Once again, something astonishing occurred.
Maggie stood amid the dazzling white light, which suddenly became sharp and focused, as if these rays had a consciousness, manipulating them to encircle the ferocious attackers.
Simultaneously, the attackers trapped within the path of the light clutched their heads, their agonizing cries piercing the air. The raw power of the light overwhelmed them, rendering them incapacitated and vulnerable.
Some attackers ruthlessly rushed towards her, but upon contact with the white light, they were scorched and couldn’t approach any further. The attackers had lost all reason, releasing their fury, nearly reaching Maggie, only to be pushed back by the light. Meanwhile, Charlie watched in terror as Maggie was almost crushed by the attackers time and time again, shaking with fear. However, while being treated, Charlie remained still, helpless, and entirely powerless.
Suddenly, Charlie snapped out of his daze, his body trembling at the heart-wrenching cries.
He watched as the light in Maggie’s hands slowly dimmed, and her body gradually weakened, until she collapsed from the immense effort she had exerted.
“Maggie!” Charlie didn’t hesitate, propelled by an adrenaline rush. He dashed forward, putting all his strength into kicking the attackers away from Maggie, ensuring her safety. His heart pounded in his chest.
“Are you okay, Luna…” He very carefully cradled Maggie in his arms, calling her name with a mix of reassurance and concern. Her fragile form weighed heavily on him, and her vitality flickered like a fragile flame.
She attempted to offer Charlie a brave smile, hoping to put his mind at ease, but exhaustion overwhelmed her, and she fainted.
In an instant, fear consumed Charlie. “Luna… Yes, I will find help, everything will be alright…”
Just as panic was about to engulf him, he reached for his phone and was relieved to find that the signal had returned. He immediately contacted Aldrich, their only hope in this dire moment.
“Aldrich, please answer quickly, Miss Nelson needs you…”
The call was answered immediately.
“Aldrich,” Charlie urgently spoke into the phone, his voice a mix of relief and worry. “We need your help. Something happened to Maggie. She collapsed. We’ve reached the location we discussed. Please come quickly.”
On the other end of the line, Aldrich had already established a mind link with the wolf pups, and he heard their urgent pleas, calling for him to rescue their mother. The severity of the situation washed over him like a surging wave.
“I’m on my way, Charlie,” Aldrich replied firmly. “Hold on, Maggie. Help is coming.”
Charlie held Maggie tightly, his arms providing a safe embrace. His heart was filled with complex emotions – concern for her well-being, admiration for her unwavering courage, and deep respect for the inexplicable power she possessed.
The once tranquil surroundings were now littered with their scars. Fragments and remnants of a fierce battle scattered on the ground, bearing witness to the intensity of their encounter. Time seemed to stand still as Charlie gently brushed a strand of hair away from Maggie’s face, his touch filled with tenderness. He gazed at her serene expression, marveling at her newfound calm amidst the chaos.
