The group was returning to Barrett Manor along a desolate road, almost unaware of the lurking danger, ready to strike at any moment.
As their car rumbled along, the tires suddenly screeched to a halt, jolting everyone inside. Charlie turned to Maggie, his expression filled with concern and determination. “Stay in the car, Maggie,” he urged, his voice a mix of worry and resolve. “I’ll handle this.”
Maggie nodded, her heart pounding in her chest. She watched as Charlie stepped out of the car, his eyes scanning the surroundings, prepared to face whatever awaited them.
Sure enough, several menacing figures emerged from the shadows, their eyes gleaming with eerie determination, all focused on Maggie in the car!
Charlie grinned, waved his hand, and suddenly, those bodyguards transformed into fierce wolves. Before their torn clothes even hit the ground, they pounced on the attackers with lightning speed.
Through the car window, Maggie witnessed the breathtaking transformation of the wolf-men. She could vividly feel herself in a world of wolves. The brutal and fierce battle among the wolf clan sent shivers down her spine, and the razor-sharp claws made her shudder. The air was filled with painful groans and the scent of blood.
Suddenly, a commotion came from the car’s trunk, and Maggie screamed, “It’s a wolf!”
A black wolf crawled out from the trunk, baring its cold teeth. “Miss Nelson, please don’t struggle, or I might hurt the child in your belly.”
“Charlie! Save me!” Maggie shouted desperately. The owl sculpture fell, revealing the cloth bag beneath. The black wolf seemed affected, with darkened pupils and a swelling body.
The black wolf reached for the owl sculpture. In that moment, a strong sense of responsibility made Maggie cast caution aside. She rushed forward, using her own body to shield the owl’s head. The black wolf’s sharp claws came toward her…
“Ahh…”
A chilling wind swept past her, but the pain didn’t come. Maggie opened her eyes to see Charlie, who had arrived just in time, firmly gripping the black wolf’s neck.
“Nelson, are you okay?”
“I’m fine, but you be careful!” Maggie’s heart was racing. The black wolf was a formidable opponent, and Charlie had been unexpectedly scratched. He roared, unleashing immense strength, and flung the black wolf out of the car.
“Now you’re safe. I’ll stay in the car to protect you.”
Maggie carefully put away the owl sculpture, noticing the blood seeping from Charlie’s arm. “Charlie, you’re bleeding!”
“It’s nothing to me.”
The bodyguards quickly drove the attackers away, and the cleanup was underway outside. Charlie sighed, “He succeeded once.”
“He?” Maggie asked with curiosity.
“Ethan. He’s been trying to take you away, but Mr. Barrett’s pressure seems to have pushed him to his limits. He can’t compete with Mr. Barrett.”
“So, are we safe now?”
“Of course, we’ll be back at Barrett Manor soon.”
Just then, a wolf guard approached with a grave expression. “Charlie, something’s not right. We’ve detected another wave of malevolent energy.”
Charlie immediately became alert again. “I’ve felt it too. And they seem even more powerful, more formidable.”
Just minutes after feeling safe, they were about to face even more powerful adversaries. This put Maggie’s nerves on edge. “Charlie…”
“Don’t worry; I’ve got this,” Charlie displayed an unprecedented strength and sense of duty. As a loyal werewolf, he would protect Maggie’s safety without hesitation, even if it meant giving his life.
Tension and gravity spread around them, and Maggie couldn’t help but touch her belly, comforting her restless babies. “Don’t be afraid; we’ll be fine. Aldrich, if you can sense this, please hurry. We need you…”
The tense atmosphere neared its breaking point as a slow and intense battle unfolded. To their surprise, attackers emerged from the darkness, possessing overwhelming power and strength.
Charlie widened his eyes in shock, his mind racing to come up with a plan to confront an unexpected adversary. The enemies they faced were much more dangerous than they had anticipated.
The leader of the attackers, a powerful figure exuding a ferocious aura, raised his hand to conjure a barrier, cutting off all communication with the outside world. The air was filled with bursts of energy, and an indestructible wall separated Charlie, his bodyguards, and any external help.
Charlie exchanged vigilant glances with his bodyguards, their expressions a mix of determination and worry. They knew they were about to face a challenging battle, but the safety of the team and their mission compelled them to stand their ground.
Charlie cautiously watched over the surroundings, ready to fend off any sudden attacks and ensure Maggie’s safety. He handed Maggie a high-tech internal phone, saying, “Miss Nelson, please call the boss. The situation is dire; we need assistance.”
Maggie anxiously took the phone and quickly found Aldrich’s number. However, the call wouldn’t connect, enveloping her in despair. “No, the signal won’t go through; this energy barrier is isolating everything!”
The wolf guards had just engaged in a fierce battle with Ethan’s wolf pack and hadn’t fully recovered their strength. Now, they faced even more powerful attackers, placing them at a significant disadvantage.
Upon hearing Maggie’s words, the wolf pack howled to the sky, and Maggie was infected with their fear of failure. All the wolves understood that failure meant death, but they pushed their bodies to the limit, standing resolutely in front of Maggie and Charlie, vowing to protect them at any cost.
Charlie licked his sharp teeth, his breath still carrying the lingering scent of the previous battle. “Well, I guess it’s going to be a fight to the death!”
Conflict erupted, fists and weapons clashed, creating a violent symphony. The attackers were skilled, their movements smooth and precise. Charlie and his bodyguards fought bravely, each action filled with a strong determination to protect and survive.
However, despite the attackers’ courage and unwavering resolve, they proved to be an undeniable force. Charlie and his bodyguards found themselves overwhelmed. Their bodies ached, muscles burned with fatigue, and as the tide of the battle turned against them, their spirits began to waver.
Charlie, battered and bruised, refused to yield. His gaze locked onto Maggie, showing a mix of concern and determination. Protecting her and fulfilling his duty to protect the boss’s offspring renewed the strength of his battered body.
Charlie summoned the last bit of strength within him and launched a final assault. His body was pushed to the edge of its limits. But even with his extraordinary resilience and unwavering determination, the attackers’ overwhelming force proved insurmountable. Charlie’s body finally succumbed, weary and defeated, falling to the ground.
“Charlie!” Maggie witnessed it all, tears streaming down her face, as she cried out. In this situation, she couldn’t see any hope.
She attempted to call Aldrich multiple times, but her phone still had no signal. They were trapped here, on the verge of a cruel death.
Charlie lay there, his gaze growing blurry, his body convulsing with pain, questions swirling in his mind. Who were these attackers? What did they want? The answers remained elusive, lost in the chaos and uncertainty of the present.
The attackers stared at Charlie, as if he was already dead, their eyes carrying an air of death. They closed in on Maggie, their intentions crystal clear.
“No, I can’t stand by and watch them hurt Charlie like this. I can’t!” Maggie’s heart raced in her chest, and she could no longer stand idly by.
She carefully opened the car door, stepping into the chaotic scene before her. The attackers drew closer with each step, their threat sending shivers down her spine.
Charlie’s voice cut through the chaos, filled with urgency and concern. “Maggie, get back in the car quickly!” His eyes begged her to retreat to safety, finding shelter within the vehicle’s limited protection.
Deep down, Charlie knew that this car offered little defense against the powerful attackers. Its metal frame couldn’t match their sheer strength and power. Yet, he couldn’t help but admire Maggie’s unwavering determination, holding onto the precious statue tightly. Even in the face of imminent danger, her persistence intrigued him. What did that sculpture mean to her, after all?
With every step the attackers took, they closed in on Maggie. Despite Charlie’s battered and weakening body, he refused to yield. The responsibility of protecting the boss’s offspring burned within him, driving every one of his actions.
The other four bodyguards lay motionless on the ground, seriously injured. Their injuries were severe, and they were helpless, leaving Charlie as the sole barrier between the attackers and Maggie.
As Maggie observed the attackers closing in, fear and determination filled her eyes. She made up her mind, clutching the priceless statue tightly. Its existence symbolized her resistance against the imminent danger.
Desperate, Maggie mustered all her strength and threw the statue to the ground. There was a loud crash as the once-invaluable artifact shattered into countless pieces. In that moment, its beauty and elegance turned into chaos and destruction.
The attackers were all frozen in place, a hint of surprise on their faces at this sudden turn of events. Charlie, covered in blood and battered, gazed at Maggie in astonishment as she vented her anger on something she had once cherished. He was both intrigued and awed by how deep her attachment to that sculpture was. What kind of love would make someone sacrifice precious belongings at such a critical moment?
Only Maggie knew that she couldn’t bear to watch her beloved sacrifice himself to protect her while she stood idly by. An extreme and bold idea stirred within her. Could she make the right gamble?
