Chapter 63 Blood?

Book:Alpha's Rise and Luna's Love Published:2024-6-4

The moon cast a mysterious glow, and Maggie held the Energy bead tightly, completely absorbed in hours of relentless practice. Within the bead, pure energy began to gather, strengthening her power continuously. Mrs. Jenkins had revealed that this Energy bead would become her protective weapon, but the mysterious process of unlocking its full potential remained shrouded in secrecy. This filled Maggie with even more hope and anticipation for the Energy bead.
Exhaustion seeped into Maggie’s bones, and she carefully placed the Energy bead back into its ornate box, surrendering herself to the embrace of slumber.
The cozy bedroom was peaceful, and the swaying tree shadows projected a serene atmosphere on the window. Maggie peacefully drifted to sleep. Suddenly, Aldrich’s figure flashed past the window and swiftly entered the room.
“Maggie, are you asleep?” Aldrich asked in a hushed tone as he walked to the other side of the bed, observing Maggie’s sleeping face.
Under the silver moonlight, Maggie lay quietly on her side, her hand resting on the pillow, and her long lashes quivered with her gentle breath. She exuded a radiant aura, which Aldrich attributed to the presence of their unborn child.
He couldn’t resist coming closer to Maggie. “Darling, I don’t understand why you’re keeping your distance from me; it’s breaking my heart.”
Aldrich had never been this cautious and gentle. He found a spot beside Maggie, almost holding his breath, fearing that the sound of his heartbeats might wake her.
But Maggie was exhausted from absorbing energy, and she continued to slumber, unaware of what had transpired.
Faced with the alluring sleeping beauty, Aldrich couldn’t control himself. He leaned in, gently kissing Maggie’s lips. His wolf instincts urged for more intimate contact…
The moonlight dimmed slightly, casting a faint halo over the awkward scene in the room. In the night air, Aldrich’s restrained breath was audible as he expressed his deep love for Maggie.
At midnight, Aldrich embraced Maggie sweetly in his dreams. The air carried a faint scent of blood, and the keen wolf senses quickly detected an unexpected presence. In an instant, Aldrich’s sharp eyes snapped open.
The scent was very close. Aldrich remained on high alert but couldn’t find any intruders in the room. However, the scent of blood drew his attention to Maggie.
“Maggie, wake up!” Aldrich quickly turned on the lights, flooding the room with brightness. He noticed faint traces of blood on Maggie’s body.
Maggie was awakened by Aldrich’s urgent call. She was surprised to see Aldrich standing in her room, completely nude, and the warmth beside her indicated he had just been sleeping beside her.
Her heart raced, and a complex mix of confusion and fear overwhelmed her. “How did you get into my room?”
“It doesn’t matter, Maggie. You’re bleeding!” Aldrich quickly covered himself with a robe.
“It does matter! You entered my room without my permission!” Maggie was highly agitated. She feared that Aldrich had discovered her secret, her ability to absorb energy.
“I called you from outside, but you didn’t respond. I couldn’t help but climb in through the window,” Aldrich confessed.
“You saw, didn’t you?” Maggie’s heart was in her throat. Regret and despair tried to take hold of her emotions.
Aldrich couldn’t fathom the current Maggie, but he could only comply. “I entered while you were asleep. I couldn’t resist wanting to be close to you…”
The alarm in his heart lessened, and Maggie felt relieved that she had kept her secret. Her attention returned to her own condition, which remained concerning.
Realizing that she was bleeding sent Maggie into a panic. “But why am I bleeding? The children…”
“How do you feel? Any pain in your abdomen?” Aldrich asked.
Maggie shook her head. “No, no pain. It happened so suddenly, I don’t understand…”
“Don’t worry; I’m calling the doctor right away! Don’t move!” Aldrich quickly dialed the phone.
In the quiet of the night, Aldrich’s call set the best hospital into motion. Doctors sat in the specially equipped car from Barrett Manor, marveling at the wealth and influence of the Barrett family. They rushed to Barrett Manor with various medical equipment.
In less than thirty minutes, Aldrich had practically brought a hospital to Maggie!
The doctors, infected by the tense atmosphere, kept bombarding the steward, Thomas, with questions. “Sir, is the mistress in critical condition? Is she injured, or has she taken any conflicting medication?”
“She’s bleeding.”
“Bleeding! Looks like we need an emergency rescue!”
The doctors had prepared for the worst, ready to battle the grim reaper and save the children. However, the situation turned out to be somewhat different from their expectations.
Aldrich stepped aside, allowing the doctors to approach. The doctors displayed professionalism and respect, conducting a thorough examination of Maggie and asking various questions about her pregnancy. When they noticed the red marks on Maggie’s neck, their eyes shimmered.
The doctor’s diagnosis was both reassuring and worrisome. “At present, the children are safe, but we need to monitor your blood pressure, Miss Nelson. It’s essential that you relax, take care of yourself, avoid excessive fatigue, and maintain a reasonable level of intimacy,” he advised professionally.
At the same time, the doctor turned to Aldrich. “Mr. Barrett, your bond with your partner is strong, which is a good thing. However, during the later stages of pregnancy, you must exercise restraint and avoid excessive intimacy.”
Aldrich and Maggie blushed instantly. They both knew their relationship was pure, but they were misunderstood. Aldrich was eager to clarify, “No, we didn’t do anything!”
The doctor seemed to perceive Aldrich’s thoughts and emphasized, “This bleeding is a result of Miss Nelson’s body protecting itself. During this time, you must practice strict abstinence.”
Aldrich’s heart filled with self-blame and embarrassment. He believed that his actions had caused their current predicament. His gaze trembled, and his tone carried regret and vulnerability. “I’m so sorry, Maggie. This is my fault,” he admitted, genuine remorse in his eyes.
Maggie’s understanding gaze met his, filled with love and acceptance. She reached out for his hand, providing comfort. She whispered softly, “No, Aldrich, it’s not your fault.”
Maggie understood that this was the result of an extended energy transfer last night. However, she couldn’t divulge these details to Aldrich. She could only let him temporarily spiral into self-blame. She decided to take things slowly, at least until after the birth of the children, not rushing the matter.
