As Maggie exited Mrs. Jenkins’ flower shop, her thoughts swirled like a whirlwind. The amount of information she had just received left her feeling overwhelmed and unable to digest it all. Being the daughter of the coveted Moon Goddess burdened her with a heavy responsibility, and the weight of destiny pressed down on her shoulders.
Before entering the quaint flower shop, Maggie had always believed herself to be a humble and inconsequential orphan. But now, she was the daughter of the Moon Goddess, a figure coveted by Lunaris vampires and werewolves, making her a desirable prize in their power struggles.
The burden of secrecy weighed heavily on her, for she knew that only Mrs. Jenkins was aware of her true nature. It was a precarious situation, one that required extreme caution and vigilance.
Maggie walked with her protective guards, their footsteps echoing through the streets. Shadows seemed to dance around them, whispering secrets and conspiracies. Her mind was filled with thoughts of impending danger, alliances, and betrayals. She knew she had to tread carefully in the treacherous waters of her new life.
Back at Barrett Manor, Maggie went to her bedroom to freshen up. Once she was ready, she headed downstairs to find Aldrich. Usually, at this time, Aldrich would have already returned and would be sitting on the downstairs couch, ready to greet her.
Maggie stood in the hallway, realizing that Aldrich hadn’t returned yet, and her heart sank. One of the loyal maids, Elizabeth, approached her with a concerned look.
Elizabeth: “Miss Maggie, you seem troubled. Is everything alright?”
Maggie put on a forced smile, her voice tinged with weariness. “I’m just a bit tired, Elizabeth. It’s been a long day.”
Understanding shone in Elizabeth’s eyes. “I can imagine. Should I inform Mr. Aldrich that you’re back?”
Maggie shook her head and looked away. “No need. I’ve already had dinner, and I think I should retire to my room.”
Elizabeth nodded sympathetically. “Of course, Miss Maggie. Rest up, and if you need anything, feel free to call for me.”
Maggie thanked her softly and turned to head to her room, closing the door behind her and retreating into her solitary sanctuary.
In her private chamber, Maggie sighed as her thoughts continued to replay the events of the day. She sat down on the edge of her bed, running her fingers over the intricate patterns of the bedspread. As the daughter of the Moon Goddess, she bore a great responsibility and contemplated the path laid out before her. Uncertainty and determination intertwined as she vowed to embrace her role with wisdom and grace, making the most of her newfound powers.
At the same time, Aldrich returned to Barrett Manor with anticipation in his heart. His eyes roamed the grand hallways, searching for Maggie’s presence.
“Aldrich, isn’t Maggie here?” he speculated. “Could she be in the garden? If she’s worried about Mrs. Jenkins, she might want to pick some flowers for her, which would be understandable.”
Following Aldrich, the butler Thomas replied, “The lady of the house has already retired to her room.”
“Already? Did she have dinner?”
“Yes, but she hardly ate anything.”
Aldrich furrowed his handsome brow. “Bring Maggie’s maid, Elizabeth, to me. I wish to ask her something.”
In the elegantly decorated living room, Aldrich leaned against the plush sofa, glancing up at the corridor, hoping to catch a glimpse of Maggie. He would greet her with a warm smile, but what frustrated him was that the corridor remained empty.
Maid Elizabeth arrived and asked, “Sir, is there anything I can assist you with?”
“Maggie, how did Maggie seem when she came back today?”
“She looked a bit quiet, sir, and appeared quite tired.”
This answer deepened Aldrich’s contemplation. Charlie’s report about Mrs. Jenkins indicated that her injuries were recovering well and not severe. When Maggie left the flower shop, she and Mrs. Jenkins were still embracing, both wearing smiles.
Elizabeth noticed Aldrich’s thoughtful state and spoke up, “However, when Maggie inquired about your situation, she seemed quite disappointed.”
“She inquired about my situation?”
“Yes, tonight she went to her room.”
“Something must have happened to trouble Maggie!”
“Sir, don’t you know what the problem is?”
“You… do you know?”
“It seems that the source of the lady’s unhappiness is you.”
Aldrich found Elizabeth’s conclusion absurd. “Are you kidding? We were so sweet together last night! We were passionately embracing and kissing in bed.”
Aldrich’s anger clashed with Elizabeth’s cold expression, finally restoring some calm to him. He looked at her with bewilderment, “But Maggie and I haven’t had any conflicts or disputes, and I even compromised to address her emotional needs, allowing her to visit Mrs. Jenkins with the bodyguard.”
“Is that so?” Elizabeth remained skeptical.
Aldrich swore that he wouldn’t explain so much to anyone if this matter wasn’t related to Maggie. He was accustomed to being a decisive ruler, issuing orders without hesitation.
“Your suspicions are unfounded!”
“But a woman’s anger doesn’t need reasons; you can’t judge it by the rules of the real world. You must feel it with your heart.”
“With my heart?”
“Yes, haven’t you felt the lady’s mood?”
“The mind link between twins isn’t that deep yet. I only have a strong sense when Maggie encounters danger.”
Elizabeth couldn’t help but sigh, covering her forehead. “You’re still not sensitive enough to emotions! The lady’s low spirits entering her heart means that, at least for tonight, you two will be sleeping separately.”
It was only now that Aldrich realized the seriousness of the situation. Elizabeth continued to scold, “If you don’t act soon, the consequences will be worse than tonight.”
“Alright, I accept it. The issue lies with me, but my understanding ends here. I don’t understand what I did to upset Maggie.”
“Mr. Barrett, as I mentioned before, a woman’s anger doesn’t need reasons. You just need to spend more time with her, be more attentive, and I believe she’ll open her heart to you and share her troubles.”
“Thank you, Elizabeth.” Aldrich expressed his gratitude sincerely.
Upstairs, in her room, Maggie sat examining the Energy bead given to her by Mrs. Jenkins. The moon was gradually rising high in the sky, and Maggie stood by the window, drawing back the curtains. Moonlight flooded the room, enveloping Maggie in its ethereal glow. She held the Energy bead and recited the incantations taught by Mrs. Jenkins.
As the essence of the moon entered her body, Maggie keenly sensed a surge of negative and tumultuous energy within the moon’s essence. It carried traces of anger, restlessness, and other impurities. Maggie, using her body as a vessel, purified the energy and then channeled it into the Energy bead.
However, due to Maggie’s inexperience, some of the purified energy overflowed, spreading throughout Barrett Manor. The wolves inside Barrett Manor, due to the impending Blood Moon, had been suffering from insomnia for several months. Unintentionally, they absorbed this pure energy, and they finally entered a peaceful slumber, embracing their sweetest dreams.
What Maggie didn’t know was that during her diligent practice, her unborn children in her womb were also absorbing this rare and powerful energy.
