Maggie stood at the entrance of the grand Barrett Manor, gazing at the vast estate. The news of her pregnancy and the truth about the world of werewolves weighed heavily on her, stirring a whirlwind of emotions within her.
Aldrich had saved her twice before, displaying superhuman strength, filling Maggie with awe and admiration. She couldn’t help but imagine their future child inheriting such extraordinary traits, believing it would be truly wonderful. However, Aldrich’s unique status and the significance of vying for the Alpha position meant little to Maggie.
Her only wish was for her child to grow up happy.
After careful consideration, she decided to leave the mansion and go back home.
“But, Miss Maggie,” the elderly butler pleaded, his wrinkled face filled with concern. “If Mr. Aldrich finds out about this, he won’t be pleased.”
Maggie sighed, her gaze unwavering. “I understand, Thomas, but I have to do what’s best for me and my child. I can’t stay here.”
Thomas hurriedly traversed the luxurious halls of the house, his steps resolute. He had no doubt about his loyalty to Aldrich, but he knew he had to inform Aldrich, no matter how difficult it was.
Coincidentally, Aldrich had just finished a hard day’s work and rushed back to see Maggie.
“Aldrich, I need to talk to you,” Thomas couldn’t knock in time; he pushed open Aldrich’s door, his voice filled with fear.
Aldrich raised an eyebrow, his gaze sharply locked on the butler. “What is it, Thomas? Quickly.”
Thomas hesitated for a moment, torn between his loyalty and Maggie’s happiness. Taking a deep breath, he made up his mind. “I regret to inform you, sir, that Miss Maggie has decided to leave this mansion. She insists on going back home.”
Aldrich frowned, his face a mix of surprise and concern. “What? Why would she do that? She should be safe here.”
Thomas cast his eyes down, speaking sincerely. “I believe, sir, she’s overwhelmed by recent events. The news of her pregnancy and our world have caused her distress.”
Aldrich couldn’t bear to hear more. He took brisk steps toward Maggie, complaining about her talent for causing trouble while trying hard to restrain his anxious and angry emotions. He couldn’t allow his feelings to affect Maggie’s mood. Most importantly, he wanted the children to be happy and healthy.
At the mansion’s entrance, Aldrich blocked Maggie’s path, making a conscious effort to maintain a gentlemanly demeanor. He greeted her with a polite and gentle smile. “Maggie, stay. I need you, and I need both you and the child to be well. Are you uncomfortable at Barrett Manor? Have my servants not treated you well? I will fulfill your every request.”
Maggie hesitated; she didn’t want to blame others for her desire to leave. She took a moment and said, “Aldrich, this place is nice, but it’s not my home. I can’t fully trust it, and I’m not used to being cared for by so many people…”
Aldrich pondered Maggie’s words while soothing her emotions. “I haven’t thought it through. Maggie, please, trust me. I’m learning to become a better person for you step by step…”
Maggie felt a sense of shame, as Aldrich’s considerate words melted her heart. “You’re kind, it’s just that I can’t find peace within.”
“Alright then, how about I take you home tonight?” Aldrich gestured for the other maids to leave, and a luxurious car was parked in front of them. Aldrich personally opened the car door. “Maggie, please, get in.”
Maggie shook her head. “You don’t have to accompany me; I can go by myself.”
Aldrich sighed with resignation. “Let’s compromise, okay? Maggie, please understand. As a child’s father, I want to do something for them too.” Maggie couldn’t refuse such a request, so she sat in the back of the car, guarded on both sides by security. Aldrich also joined her in the back.
The car rolled along winding roads, and Maggie stared out the window, reflecting on recent events. She felt a mix of uncertainty, fear, and excitement coursing through her veins. Her hand instinctively rested on her slowly protruding abdomen, and a gentle smile graced her lips.
Once they arrived home, Maggie stood at the doorstep, not allowing Aldrich to enter. “I’m safe now; you can leave.”
Aldrich knew that gentleness wouldn’t work this time. He lowered his head slowly, revealing a smile that surprised her. “Maggie, have you forgotten? I’m a werewolf with special abilities. If I want to enter this room, you can’t stop me. Trust me, I just want to be closer to you, to ensure your and the baby’s safety.”
“You…” Maggie couldn’t figure out how to deal with Aldrich. She refused to be controlled by him. So, she made a bold move.
With all her might, she swiftly stepped on Aldrich’s instep, then backed away like a mischievous cat, closing the door, blocking Aldrich’s astonished gaze.
Aldrich stood there, taken aback for a moment, then burst into hearty laughter. Maggie always managed to surprise him. What he didn’t realize was that it had been a while since he had laughed so heartily over something so trivial.
Finally alone, Maggie heaved a long sigh and leaned against the door, her thoughts in turmoil. She went into her bedroom and lay down on the edge of the bed. With trembling hands, she gently caressed her growing belly.
“Oh, my children,” she whispered softly, her eyes glistening with tears. “You’re a miracle, a blessing. I don’t know what the future holds, but I promise to do everything in my power to protect you.”
Soon, Maggie’s thoughts drifted to Aldrich. She reached for her laptop, determined to gather more information about him.
When she discovered Aldrich’s charitable endeavors and his selfless act of providing scholarships to those in need, she widened her eyes. Additionally, thanks to the scholarships set up by Aldrich, Alisa had been able to successfully complete her education. Her heart softened, and conflicting emotions surged within her.
“Maybe he’s not as bad as I imagined,” she said softly, hope evident in her voice. “Perhaps his charm runs far deeper than what meets the eye.”
Nightfall descended, and Maggie’s eyelids grew heavy. She curled up under the covers, her hand protectively resting on her stomach. As she drifted off to sleep, she had a dream of a massive silver wolf, its gaze filled with warmth.
“Is it you?” she whispered softly in the darkness, a sense of calm washing over her. “I hope that after the child is born, we can find a way to be together.”
Maggie knew the silver wolf understood her words. She watched anxiously and devoutly, hoping for a response…
