Chapter 446: The Thirty Million Toll

Book:A King Reborn in Shadows Published:2024-6-4

Molly had encountered Flynn several times, but she had never seen him together with Scarlet before. The staff at Orco Real Estate mentioned that Scarlet was Flynn’s wife’s cousin. Molly initially thought Scarlet had secured her position at Orco Real Estate through Madeline’s influence, but now that the couple was divorced, things seemed unchanged-Scarlet appeared even closer to Flynn. It hadn’t even been three days since Flynn’s divorce from Madeline, and he was already cozy with Scarlet?
“There’s no need to overdo it, just ensure Orco Real Estate doesn’t go bankrupt. Consider it practice,” Flynn stated nonchalantly. The world’s top 500 companies didn’t interest him at all. As for Scarlet, she could do whatever she pleased as long as she didn’t bother him constantly. Avenging his mother was his real concern. Matters involving Orco Real Estate and Rose were merely side tasks; he didn’t want to invest too much energy.
“Alright, got it!”
“Oh, by the way, Miss George is a quick learner. I’ve found her a mentor, and she mastered spreadsheet creation in half a day. Her typing speed isn’t slow either.”
“I think she’ll adapt to life here very quickly.”
Scarlet, wrapping her arms around Flynn’s neck, smiled. Molly’s expression, however, turned cold.
Adapt to life here? If I end up working here for more than a month, consider it a loss!
Flynn really was incompetent. Relying on the God of War for a puppet identity, he even used it to flirt!
Scarlet was foolish; the position Flynn gave her was nothing but a dream. With Layla overseeing the Tri-Alliance, Rose’s side was bound to fail, and the God of War could not be saved. Eventually, Orco Real Estate would face losses as well.
She wouldn’t gain anything!
Without showing her emotions, Molly returned to her suite. Just then, Flynn’s phone rang.
It was Harriet’s voice, trembling and tearful. “Flynn, something terrible has happened!”
Flynn’s expression shifted, and he quickly reassured her. “Harriet, don’t panic, tell me slowly.”
“Flynn, there haven’t been any issues with security lately. Ms. Sharp tasked me with purchasing herbs. Today, Energence Pharmaceuticals bought three truckloads of raw materials from Mr. Calder. As we passed Southridge Mountain, we were stopped.”
“The people are from the Eight Extremities School. They claim they built the road and demand a thirty million dollar toll to let us pass!”
Flynn frowned deeply. This had to be the new manager of the Eight Extremities School, Maximo, causing trouble.
Lilia had made her move.
“Did you call Ms. Sharp?” Flynn asked.
Harriet replied anxiously, “After I called Ms. Sharp, I called you immediately.”
“Flynn, Ms. Sharp is on her way. Please hurry over; they’re about to kill the driver. I’m so scared…”
Listening to Harriet’s crying, Flynn’s expression darkened instantly, and he comforted her, “Try to keep them calm, I’m on my way!”
After hanging up, Flynn informed Scarlet and immediately stood up to leave. As Flynn came downstairs, Molly handed him a document, her face expressionless. “This is what I organized this morning…”
Flynn passed the document to Scarlet: “Leave the paperwork to Director Zhou. You’re coming with me.”
“Going out? For what?” Molly was puzzled.
“To fight!” Flynn dropped the words and left Orco Real Estate promptly. Molly, visibly upset, followed him.
Meanwhile, on the mountain road in the Southridge Mountain area, three trucks loaded with herbal materials were parked on the roadside. The drivers and loaders lay on the ground, bleeding and moaning in pain.
Ahead of the trucks, four vans were parked, and a group of about seventeen or eighteen young men with dyed blonde hair, armed with clubs, surrounded Harriet.
“Your deputy manager Kendal is friends with Ms. Sharp, she’s already called the second in command. You can’t mess around!” Harriet said nervously.
“Kendal? Oh boy, you scared me. I thought it was someone important, just a deputy manager!”
The leader, Dennis Santana, with a dogtail grass in his mouth, sneered, “Sis, this thousands of acres of Southridge Mountain belong to Mr. Goff.”
“We built this road, and you damaged our bridge. You have to pay for that.”
“Even if the second in command comes, it has to be reasonable, right?”
Harriet glanced at the nearby bridge, fearful. “That bridge is old and damaged, not by us!”
“Even if it was our fault, thirty million is too much. Thirty thousand might be enough!”
Dennis, eyes narrowing with a smile, said, “Sis, it did indeed costover forty thousand to build that bridge, but you don’t know, we had a famous Feng Shui master conduct a ritual during its construction.”
“He charged us over twenty million!”
Harriet’s face turned ashen, she exclaimed, “You can say whatever you want, how can I know if that’s true?”
“That tiny bridge, barely ten meters long with just three supports, the Eight Extremities School spending millions on a ritual for it sounds impossible.”
Dennis’s expression turned cold, dismissive. “Whether you believe it or not doesn’t matter to us. Eight Extremities School says the bridge is worth thirty million, so it’s worth thirty million. It’s not up for your debate!”
“If you don’t bring the money today, you won’t get past this!”
His lips curled into a sinister smile as his eyes swept over Harriet’s figure, the men around him joining in with threatening laughter.
“We at the Eight Extremities School make the rules, no one dares to question them. If you don’t want to be embarrassed, you better bring the money!”
“This is about breaking your bank to avoid disaster, just pay up, and we guarantee your safety. Otherwise, we’ll burn these three trucks of goods right here!”
“Little lady, remember, every time you use this road, you’ll need to pay thirty million, or you’ll have to find another way!”
Harriet, face darkening, said, “This is bandit behavior! We have connections at the police station, do you believe I’ll call them right now?”
“Call the police?” Dennis’s face immediately grew stormy, and he violently grabbed Harriet’s hair, shouting:
“Damn it! I’ve been reasoning with you, and you haven’t listened?”
“Acting as if we don’t have people in the police station! Go ahead, call them, see if they dare to come!”
Harriet, in pain from Dennis pulling her hair, slapped his hands away, crying out:
“You’re hurting me, let go, please! Ms. Sharp won’t let you get away with this, Flynn won’t let you…”
“Damn, you’re so annoying!” The man’s face twisted in rage as he slapped Harriet hard across the face.
“Slap!”
Harriet screamed, falling to the ground, her knees and palms scraped by the stones, bleeding profusely.
Her right cheek burned painfully, her mind buzzing, the world spinning around her.
“Don’t hit me, I’m scared… I’m so scared…”
Harriet was terrified, her face deathly pale, her body trembling pitifully.
“Good, you should be scared!”
“You still dared to argue knowing we’re from the Eight Extremities School?”
“Looks like we need to make an impression today, or you won’t realize how formidable the Eight Extremities School is!”
“Grab her, hold her down! She doesn’t leave until she pleases me today!”
The men grabbed Harriet and forced her to kneel before him.
Dennis looked at Harriet’s chest, straining against her shirt, and began unbuckling his belt with a malicious grin.
