Chapter 251 The God of War is a Burden to Me

Book:A King Reborn in Shadows Published:2024-6-4

“Ms. Woods, I don’t understand what you’re saying,” Brady said coldly.
Layla was undoubtedly talented, but her attitude was too aggressive. It wouldn’t hurt for the Spencer family to take a stance on her side. After all, they were the first wealthy family in Shipmeda and had a governor in their household.
Layla was surprised and asked, “Isn’t it Cruz? Besides him, who else has martial arts skills comparable to King of Poison’s?”
Barney replied cautiously, “Ms. Woods, this is confidential information that I cannot disclose.”
“You don’t have to worry about it anymore. Just focus on other things,” Barney added.
From Flynn’s words earlier, he could sense his strong dislike towards Layla. They must have had some conflict before.
If Layla were informed that it was Flynn, she would undoubtedly, in her eagerness to prove her strength, act recklessly in the attempt to assassinate the King of Poison. This might eventually lead to the King of Poison catching wind of the danger and escaping.
Layla sneered coldly and said in a low voice, “Of course I know this is confidential information but you seem too distrustful towards me.”
“I’m not one to gossip around about such matters.”
“Now that I already know it’s Cruz who is hired for this mission, let’s talk openly about it!”
She believed Barney was being evasive because both King of Poison’s case and Cruz’s actions were classified information which War God must’ve informed him not to reveal his name outside the circle so Barney didn’t want to admit hiring Cruz.
Barney smiled without saying anything.
“Mr. Spencer, this matter is crucial, and also involves whether or not you can seek revenge for the George family.”
“If we can’t bring King Of Poison under justice within our borders, it will cause even greater damage and panic throughout our country.”
“And also, I can’t imagine what serious consequences there would be if War God gets injured by his poison while pursuing him.”
“Even with my medical martial arts background, I’m still not completely confident in taking down King of Poison. War God doesn’t know any medical skills at all. He’ll definitely lose against him!”
“Mr. Spencer, you made such an important decision without consulting me. Isn’t that childish?”
Brady’s face turned pale upon hearing Layla’s words. He immediately shouted at her, “Ms. Woods! Why does Mr. Spencer need your opinion? Watch your language!”
But Layla remained indifferent, “This matter concerns not only the Spencer family feud but also national security.”
“As a member of Ostrad and with the ability to kill the King of Poison, I have every right to be involved!”
“Besides, the King of Poison is a disgrace to the medical community. As an expert in medicine, it’s my responsibility to rid our field of this cancer!”
After saying this, Layla turned her head towards Brady and said coldly, “With so many reasons, is it enough for Mr. Spencer to seek my opinion?”
Brady was infuriated by Layla’s attitude but couldn’t find any reason to refute her since she did have that ability.
Barney was generous and didn’t mind Layla’s aggressive approach. He smiled and said, “Since you insist on being involved in this matter, I won’t refuse. You two can handle it together.”
“But we have three rules: only I can provide intelligence information; you cannot conduct private investigations without permission from me.”
Layla nodded and said, “With your words here today, I won’t do anything rash.”
“But there’s one condition: if I kill the King of Poison, please reconsider your position on which side you stand for!”
Barney smiled faintly without refusing or agreeing.
After Layla left, Brady felt uneasy about their encounter with these two arrogant people in Niarak.
“How could such arrogant people exist in such a small place like Niarak? They don’t even know how to show respect!” he grumbled.
“Well young man,” Barney replied calmly while smiling, “they’re talented individuals who are bound to be proud of themselves.”
The Spencer family was not as prestigious as some top-notch families but still had some influence as Shipmeda’s first wealthy clan. How could a seventy-year-old patriarch like him be compared with them?
Brady nodded his head but then frowned, “But earlier you promised Flynn that you wouldn’t let Layla get involved in this matter again…”
Barney chuckled lightly, “If we don’t agree now, when she takes matters into her own hands later on, there will be risks associated with that.”
“Moreover,” he continued, “Letting them both fight against King of Poison adds another layer of insurance.”
“When they meet during their mission against King of Poison, they’ll try harder than ever before just so they can prove themselves stronger…”
Layla walked out through the Ivory Grove Hotel’s entrance directly into her Ferrari car.
“So, did Mr. Spencer transfer the task over?” Kimber asked curiously.
“Nope! Mr. Spencer didn’t budge at all. He wants me to cooperate with War God instead. I agreed!” Layla replied coldly.
“Cooperate?” Kimber was taken aback and said, “Who will take credit for it? Miss, King of Poison is the world’s top wanted criminal. Many governments are offering a reward for him.”
“This is your chance to make a name for yourself worldwide. How can you share it with Cruz?”
If Layla could single-handedly kill the King of Poison, her fame would surpass Roman and Lennon, becoming the most famous and youngest doctor in Ostrad.
If War God participated in this mission, the credit would be split in half. People would mention War God every time they talked about this matter, wouldn’t that be annoying?
Layla nodded and said, “I can handle King of Poison alone. War God is just a burden to me.”
“You help me keep an eye on Ayden’s whereabouts through various channels and I’ll try to take him down before War God does!”
Kimber perked up at the idea and nodded vigorously.
As Layla’s secretary over these years, she had received much respect from others. Even some wealthy families treated her politely.
Of course Kimber wanted Layla’s reputation to soar even higher so that she could bask in its glow too!
Layla squinted her eyes towards the Plenilune Mountain direction and snorted softly, “I never thought that War God would go all out for Rose by agreeing to help the Spencer family kill King of Poison!”
“But stealing my thunder won’t be so easy!”
“This task can only be completed by me and when that time comes, the Spencer family will naturally stand on my side! Everything you do will just be futile!”
As Layla spoke, a cold and proud curve formed at the corner of her mouth, resembling an empress looking down on everything, dismissing everyone with disdain.
However, what she didn’t know was that Cruz was merely a foil, a pretend adversary. The one Barney had truly brought into the picture was Flynn, someone she had never regarded with genuine attention.
