Flynn shook his head, frustrated with Layla’s attitude. “You’re crazy! What Cruz? What Rose getting involved with him? Are you out of your mind?”
Layla raised an eyebrow, unimpressed by Flynn’s reaction. “There are no secrets in this world. It’s not shameful for Rose to climb the social ladder and get close to Cruz.”
“But she’ll be disappointed,” Layla continued confidently. “Even if Cruz is a powerful ally, as long as I stand with the Swanson and Hussain families, Rose won’t win.”
Dressed in a simple white dress and standing tall with her arms crossed, Layla looked down on Flynn who had recently been released from prison only to become Rose’s bodyguard and personal driver.
“You’ve joined the wrong team,” she said dismissively. “Rose is destined to fail even with Cruz by her side.”
“If you can see Cruz again,” Layla added coolly, “tell him that while I respect him, if he stands against me, then I won’t hesitate to crush him too.”
Flynn finally understood what was going on.
Layla suspected something was going on between Rose and Cruz when she saw her at the Thodell Mansion late at night – which happened to be owned by Cruz – but instead of clearing things up, Rose used it as an opportunity to intimidate Layla.
She sent Flynn away for two days so she could build up hype around their supposed relationship throughout Niarak.
“Fine!” Flynn sighed heavily after listening patiently. He was fed up with these women now.
“Fine! Since you put it that way… I’ll give you one last warning: Rose may take back what she lost but you will all fail miserably in the end… and your family business will be taken over by us!”
“Hehe, relying on Cruz?” Layla chuckled lightly, her eyes full of disdain, not even considering Cruz as a threat.
In the business war, the competition lies in comprehensive strength, especially financial strength. Cruz was just a war god, stationed in the northern region for years, with little interaction with the powerful families of Ostrad.
Even if he knew a few forces, can he compare to the networks she’d built through her medical skills?
Cruz’s family was indeed wealthy, but they can only produce a little over a billion at most. Compared to the funds mobilized by their side, it was simply not worth mentioning.
As Layla pondered Flynn’s words from earlier, the contempt on her face became even more apparent. A faint sneer appeared on her cold and proud face as she raised an eyebrow, “Hmm? Did I hear correctly just now? You think we’ll be swallowed up by you?”
“You’re just Rose’s bodyguard and driver, what does it have to do with you in business? You’re just trying to show off and get yourself involved!”
“You’ll be out of a job in two months, so make some money while you can!” Layla sneered and got into the car.
“If you don’t believe me, then let actions speak louder than words!” Flynn ignored the matter and drove to a hotel to stay for the night.
The next day, Flynn went to Energence Pharmaceuticals.
“Mr. Clark, you’re here to see Ms. Sharp! She left something for me here.”
Flynn was about to enter the gate when he was stopped by a security guard who handed him a square brocade box containing a bracelet.
It was lush green and crystal clear. It looked like top-grade glass jade worth at least three million dollars.
Flynn was satisfied with the bracelet since he trusted Thodell Mansion’s collection quality. However, Rose’s attitude annoyed him.
Did she think he was going after her or something? Didn’t she want to see him?
“This is so frustrating! I need to go find her…” Flynn was about to enter the gate when a Bentley pulled up behind him.
“Mr. Clark, are you going over there with Kaur family?” Marcel came over cheerfully beside Flynn and bowed down smilingly.
Flynn glanced at Energence Pharmaceuticals’ office building and calmed himself down, “Yeah, I’m going over there for Kaur family’s banquet.”
“Oh great! I wanted Ms. Sharp sign our partnership agreement before we head over there,” Marcel said as he handed over an agreement explaining. “I considered several projects yesterday and found that this project has high profits of 20 million dollars with fast returns.”
“But Kaur family is relatively small; I don’t know if they can take on this project.”
“So I drafted an agreement that if they feel it suits them well enough, they could come sign an official contract anytime at my place!”
“Got it,” Flynn took the contract from Marcel then drove the BMW X5 towards the Chateau Hotel.
He found his way into one of their smaller halls filled with three tables.
They were almost full of people including Scarlet and Matteo’s family-of-three who had already arrived earlier than anyone else did.
Although Paulina was supposed be center stage today, Frank still sat at top seat which made Flynn feel somewhat uncomfortable.
Why were Frank and relatives all coming out today on Paulina’s birthday?
“Heh… the useless son-in-law from Uncle’s home finally showed up!”
“All day long, he’s just loafing around. It’s harder to see him than the emperor, except when he’s mooching off of us!” Charlotte threw her fork in front of her with a disgusted expression.
The room fell silent as everyone heard her words. Paulina was talking to Frank and froze mid-sentence, shooting Flynn a cold glance.
Matteo looked displeased at Charlotte’s comment and said, “Flynn has a job now. He works in the security department at Energence Pharmaceuticals.”
“Don’t say he’s just loafing around anymore,” Matteo continued sternly.
The Kaur family members were stunned by Matteo’s words and their faces showed disdain.
“The security department? Isn’t that just being a guard? You make it sound so fancy like it’s some great job!”
“I agree with you auntie. Flynn has only recently gotten out of jail; having any type of work is an achievement for him.”
“Ah! This guy is almost thirty years old, but can only work as a security guard, earning only one thousand a month! Matteo, if he dares to make a mistake as a security guard, it’s the Kaur family’s reputation at stake! Don’t let him do it!”
Frank shook his head disapprovingly; he didn’t like his grandson-in-law very much either.
“My brother-in-law isn’t as bad as you guys are making him out to be!” Scarlet stood up indignantly after seeing everyone sneering at Flynn’s expense.
“He’s actually the head of security now! And Ms. Sharp’s personal bodyguard!”
“The head of security? The leader of guards? That still makes him nothing more than just another guard! What an absolute joke!”
“Enough! Stop whitewashing him. This is the extent of his achievements in his entire life. Putting any gloss on his face is useless! A guy who’s been in prison thinks he can turn his life around? Dream on!”
“Energence Pharmaceuticals is Rose’s company, right? She offended the Swanson’s Group. Even lasting two months is impressive. Even if he becomes a factory manager, what’s the use if he can’t make money for even two months!”
Scarlet crossed her arms stubbornly wanting to argue back but then saw someone walking into the room from outside through the open door.
He wore an impeccable suit with polished shoes and held flowers delicately in one hand while sporting shiny hair styled perfectly on top.
“Oh my goodness! Mr. Barrett is here!” Charlotte greeted Milo obsequiously upon seeing who had arrived.
Flynn turned his head towards the door too and couldn’t hide his displeasure when he saw who had walked into the room.
It was Milo – Braiden’s subordinate who ordered River to steal Rose’s formula.
Milo smiled towards Frank saying, “Mr. Kaur, I expressed my interest in dating Madeline yesterday but you invited me over today instead.”
“It seems inappropriate for me – an outsider – to come over on Mrs. Kaur’s birthday surrounded by all these Kaur family members.”
“Mr. Barrett, you’re too polite,” Frank waved his hand and smiled, “Talking about Madeline and Flynn’s divorce, and then dating you on Paulina’s birthday is the perfect occasion!”
“If it works out, it will be the best birthday gift for Paulina!”
“Madeline will be overjoyed!”
Flynn’s eyebrows furrowed as he heard this. In an instant, a cold glint flashed in his deep eyes.
No wonder Frank summoned the entire family for Paulina’s birthday. It turned out that he wanted to discuss his divorce with Madeline!
Flynn also saw through Milo’s intentions.
He must have been sent by Braiden to seek revenge for what happened at the Fish Dragon Villa!
