Chapter sixty

Book:Revenge of the Son In Law Published:2024-5-1

“Hold it right there!” A voice said from behind me.
I could feel a gun on my head.
“Put the gun down! Now!” The voice said.
I bent to the floor and dropped the gun down slowly and stood back straight.
I watched as the police officers led everyone out of the mansion.
I got handcuffed and put into the police car.
I got interrogated and then faced judgement in court.
I personally told the judge that I don’t ever want to come out of prison and he fulfilled my wish.
I was sentence to life imprisonment for the rest of my life.
For me it was better that way.
Not to see anyone or talk to anyone was part of my want to stay in prison.
I never knew that I would make such a mistake and not keep a close eye on the person who had exposed me.
I missed out one thing and that is what had left me open for the whole world to see.
I never knew that this one person could lead to the spell of doom for me.
Mr Charles.
He had been on my trail for a long time and I never saw it. I never noticed anything.
Mr Charles had revealed to everyone present in the court that Mr Adams had sent him on that task.
Mr Adams had sent him to follow me up and know what my real agenda was.
The truth is that Mr Adams had totally forgotten that he had given such a task to Mr Charles.
Mr Charles had a lot to show as proof to the court that I was guilty of everything accused of me.
He had a duplicate of the contract I had tricked Mr Adams into signing, the record of my voice which was still in Bella’s phone and even medical report that proved that I had attempted to rape my own wife.
Who knew that Mr Charles would be the beginning of my downfall?
Mr Charles didn’t even excuse Mr Adams from the case.
I got to know that my mother didn’t even go through with the abortion.
She had changed her mind and decided to come back home.
But she was killed by Mr Adams and he had made me Charles clean up his mess.
The body I had thought was my mother’s was actually the body of a different dead woman who was made to look like my mother.
What I don’t understand is why I couldn’t see it in the first place.
Why was I blinded from seeing what was right in front of me?
Mother and I share a bond. I was supposed to know if it was her or not.
I guess that I was blinded by grief, anger, and hate.
Right now I don’t know whether Mr Adams and his wife got divorced or are still together.
All I know now is that, Mr Charles, Mr Adams and myself are in prison.
Mr Charles was given a smaller sentence, and I the biggest.
“Hey!” An officer said from outside my cell.
I looked up at him from where I sat on the floor.
“You have a visitor.” He said and unlocked the door.
“I’m not seeing anyone.” I said.
“You won’t see the only person that came to visit you in prison?” He asked.
Then I got curious. I suddenly wanted to know who it was that came to visit me.
“Who is it?” I asked.
“How would I know? Come up your lazy ass and follow me.” He said.
I stood up and went ahead while the officer followed from behind.
I arrived at the visiting room and had my seat.
The person in question was led in by the officer.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this person.
“Mary?” I said.
“Yes sir… It’s me.” She replied.
I never expected to see my personal maid come visit me in prison.
“What a surprise. I never expected to see you here.” I said, not exactly showing any form of emotions.
“You have done a lot for me sir. It would only be right if I returned the favor.” She said.
Tears dropped down from my eyes.
Now it was clear that I was ashamed of my deeds.
Mary whipped off my tears with her fingers and gave me a smile.
“Mr Hilton said he will do all he can to reduce your sentence.” She said.
I thought my best friend no longer cared about me.
He is such a wonderful person. And he is right, this whole revenge that I plan since the beginning never got me anything.
I have wasted my youthful days and will continue to waste it in prison.
I am twenty six years old and rotting in prison.
“I don’t want to come out.” I said.
“Why sir? If I may ask.” Mary said.
I gave no reply to her question.
“I just came here to comfort you. I know how it feels to loose everyone you every loved.” She said.
I only kept looking at nothing in particular.
“I’m orphan too. Remember?” She said.
“I’m sorry about that.” I said.
“No big deal sir. All I have now . is this picture that I always carry with me. To remind me of them.” She said as she stared at a photo in her hands.
“Can I see it?” I asked.
“Sure.” She said and gave me the picture.
“I think I have seen this girl somewhere a long time ago.” I said as I pointed at a girl in the picture.
“That’s me. I took that picture with my parents a few months before they passed away.” She said.
I suddenly remembered her.
“You are the girl I saw at a boutique a few years ago.” I said.
“I don’t understand sir.” She replied.
“Don’t you remember walking into a guy in a dressing room? You told me I had a good body structure.” I asked.
“That was you?” She asked.
“Yes. That was me.” I replied.
Her face suddenly turned red.
“I’m sorry sir. This has suddenly turned awkward.” She said and made to leave.
I held her hand and she stopped.
“Tell Hilton thank you for me. And also tell him that I would like to get out of prison as soon as I can.” I said.
“You suddenly changed your mind?” She asked without turning back.
“I’m doing it so I can start over again and also get to know you.” I said.
“What about your revenge? Are you still stuck with that thought?” She asked.
“I have forgiven them and it is all in the past now. I want to start afresh.” I replied.
“Your message will be delivered.” She said, without turning to look at me but I could tell she was happy.
I’m letting it go.
All the grudges and hate.
Now I am a new person.
Dave.
