Chapter thirty four

Book:Revenge of the Son In Law Published:2024-5-1

Dave POV
“So you want me to teach you what exactly?” The boy asked.
“How did you get the bread?” I asked.
“That’s none of your business looser!” The boy replied.
“Please I need food desperately.” I pleaded.
“Go get your own. I worked hard for this one.” The boy replied.
“Okay then. I’m sorry…” I replied and left.
I don’t really blame him if he doesn’t want to help me at all. Just look at me. I’m a mess. But come to think of it, so is him.
There is no other means for me to get food now. I’ll have to steal it. I think I’ll try that shop that the boy himself stole from. It can’t be that hard, right?
Authoress POV
It seems to me that Dave has no other choice. He has to take the risk and steal food.
Dave goes straight to the exact same shop the other boy stole from and decided to try his luck. Dave looks around to see if anyone is watching and then he took a Loaf of bread with his eyes averted.
Unfortunately for Dave, it wasn’t as easy as he thought. Immediately he took the bread a hand grabs his and drags him. Dave begins to panic.
Dave POV
A hand grabbed my hand immediately I took the bread. I felt my heart pounding like crazy. My whole world is about to come crumbling down.
“Are you going to pay for that!” The voice said.
I just stared at him.
“Let me go! Let me go!” I said as I continued to struggle to get free from his grasp.
“You have nowhere else to go but to the police you little thief.” The man said and brought out his phone.
“I’m calling the police now and you will get your punishment for stealing.” The man said.
“Hey hey! What’s going on here?” A voice asked.
I turned around and saw that it was the same boy who had stolen bread from this same shop.
“What’s your business in this kid? Just stay out of it and mind your own business.” The man replied.
The boy turned to me.
“Hey, What’s the problem?” He asked.
“He is accusing me of stealing and he wants to call police on me.” I replied nervously.
“Shut up! You want to make yourself look innocent right? Now watch and see what I’ll do to you.” The man said and started dialing a number in his phone.
I turned to the boy and saw him remove some money from his pocket.
“Here you go sir. This should be enough for whatever he must have stolen.” The boy said, handing the man some money.
The man counted the money and let me go.
“You got away this time but the next time you come here to steal, you won’t be so lucky.” The man said.
“Come on, follow me.” The boy said.
I held the bread with both arms and followed him. He reached an old uncompleted building and I followed him into it. I had already finished the bread by the time we both reached.
“How do you like it here? It’s not much but at least it’s a shelter.” The boy said.
“It’s okay I guess.” I replied.
“My name is Oliver. What’s your name?” He asked.
“I’m Dave.” I replied.
We shook hands with each other and sat on a mat spread on the open floor.
“Why did you try to steal when you know you have no experience in it?” Oliver asked.
“You need experience to steal?” He asked.
“Hell yes. You almost got yourself arrested.” He replied.
“I told you before that I was desperate right? And by the way, where did you get the money you used to help me out?” I asked.
“It’s mine.” He said.
I looked at him suspiciously.
“If it were yours then you would’ve stolen at first. And by the way this house looks, it doesn’t seem like you own anything.” I said.
“Are you some sort of an inspector Gadget or what? Fine, I’ll tell you.” He replied.
“I’m listening.” I said.
“Well, I stole it from the man who held you in his shop.” Oliver said.
“I don’t know how you manage to pull this stuff off.” I said.
“Like I said, experience.” He replied.
We both laughed at his statement.
“So, what brings you to the streets?” He asked.
“My fate brings me to the streets Oliver.” I replied.
Never once, in all I have been passing through, forgotten the evil deeds of Mr Adams. It’s stuck to my mind like glue. What he did is unforgivable. I refuse to forgive him! I don’t know how but I know that I will indeed complete my task.
“You okay?” Oliver asked.
“Yeah. Yeah. I am.” I replied as I came back to my senses.
“Okay. If you say so.” He said.
“Yeah.” I replied.
“Do you stay here all alone?” I asked him.
“Yes but it hasn’t always been like that.” Oliver replied.
“How do you mean?” I asked.
“We used to be many living together in a different uncompleted building from this one but… ” Oliver said.
” But what?” I asked.
“Something bad happened that I no longer wanted to be part of them anymore.” Oliver said.
“What exactly happened?” I asked.
“They started using guns.” Oliver said.
“What?!” I exclaimed.
“Yeah. At first it was just to threaten people into giving us money but then two of our members convinced the rest to start killing so that no one could tell the police a boy them.” Oliver explained.
“That’s terrible.” I said in surprise.
“Yeah. It is. I left the group after the death of a woman and her child.” Oliver added.
“I feel so bad right now. I’m sorry I had to remind of that with my dumb questions.” I said.
“It’s okay Dave. No problem at all.” He said and forced a smile to his face.
“Okay. I have to go somewhere now.” Oliver said.
“Where are you going?” I asked.
“Just to get us some food. I’ll be right back okay?” He said.
“Okay.” I replied.
