“Owen, do you have Katrina’s phone number? Find it for me,” Flynn said without much ado. Owen immediately searched for it and soon reported back to Flynn.
After hearing Flynn’s request, Milo couldn’t help but laugh and said, “Why pretend to be someone you’re not just to get Katrina’s contact information? I’ll give it to you directly!”
The onlookers all had expressions of disdain. “You’re pretending like you actually have her number. Isn’t that just showing off?” one person said.
“Even if he did find Katrina’s phone number and called her himself, she would hang up without hesitation!” another added.
“Why bother with this guy? Calling Ms. Richardson would be like shooting yourself in the foot and losing face!”
Katrina was the daughter of the prominent figure in the city. Even inviting her out for dinner was a challenge. Let alone trying to recruit her into their company!
Rose watched from the sidelines with a cold gaze that could cut through steel. She had met Katrina before and knew that she was proud and rarely gave anyone a good impression.
Even when Rose was CEO, getting Katrina on board was difficult enough; let alone now?
Flynn didn’t care about their opinions though; he got hold of Katrina’s phone number and dialed it straight away before handing over the phone to Rose.
“Hello!” came Katrina’s voice from the other end of the line.
“Ms. Richardson, this is Rose.” Her heart raced as she spoke; afraid that Katrina might hang up on her at any moment which would be very embarrassing indeed!
However…
As soon as Katrina heard who was calling, she became excited, “Ms. Sharp! Are you calling me about who we should invite into the Davies’ Pharmaceuticals?”
“Don’t worry! My team consists of ten PhDs – if there are too many people we can reduce them… ”
Boom!
Rose felt as if lightning had struck her when she heard these words from Katrina over the phone! She looked at Flynn in shock – how did he manage this?
Most importantly – judging by what Katrina said – joining the Sharp’s Group seemed like an honourable thing!
Who exactly was this mysterious man named Flynn?!
“No, no need! Welcome, Ms. Richardson and the team, to join Davies’ Pharmaceuticals!”
Even though Rose had seen the world, she felt a bit nervous in such situations.
“Act! Keep acting! I don’t believe you’re really calling Ms. Richardson!”
“There’s probably no one on the other end of the phone, or maybe Ms. Richardson hung up and Rose is just saving face by pretending.”
“Rose is so pitiful, she’s stooped to playing tricks with a lunatic. It’s really sad!”
The socialites present all thought Rose was talking nonsense and couldn’t help but laugh.
Milo stood with his arms crossed next to them and sneered, “Rose, if you’re playing us for fools, I promise you’ll be crawling out of here!”
Flynn heard this and leaned over towards the phone, “Ms. Richardson, Milo says we’re joking around with you and he wants us to crawl out of here!”
“Mr. Clark! Are you at the Swanson’s Group estate? I’m coming right away!” A cry came from the other end of the phone followed by the sound of a car starting up.
“Mr. Clark, have some water there first and eat something; I’ll be there in ten minutes.”
Flynn hung up his phone and put it back into his pocket.
Rose stared at Flynn blankly while her hands trembled nervously.
“Well done! Perfectly executed! You deserve praise!”
Milo clapped twice while giving everyone a thumbs-up gesture that seemed more like mockery than approval as he said, “See that? Ms. Sharp’s hands are shaking like crazy. It must be her first time lying.”
Braiden shook his head disdainfully, “Why bother putting on this show?”
“What if Ms. Richardson comes looking for me? Won’t your cover be blown?”
River sneered coldly as he reminded them all about their identities, “You’re no longer CEO of Sharp Group; just an ordinary person.”
“If an ordinary person jokes around with the daughter of our city leader, do they know what consequences they’ll face?”
“She won’t hesitate to slap you across your face!”
Flynn looked expressionless at Rose as he said, “You probably haven’t eaten yet right? Want something?” He picked up a piece of foie gras pâté and stuffed it into his mouth before taking another big sip from his wine glass then laughed saying, “I’m thirsty after listening to these trash talk endlessly.”
Milo saw Flynn acting like he was still at home which made him feel an inexplicable anger surge within him as he cursed inwardly, “You damn bastard. Wait until everyone leaves tonight then watch me skin your hide.”
The crowd thought it was just a joke and quickly forgot about it, gathering in small groups.
Layla watched Flynn with a chicken leg in his left hand and a pig’s trotter in his right, shaking her head and taking a sip of red wine before turning away.
“Showing off your presence, feeling happy?”
Kimber walked over, looking coldly at Flynn.
“When I’m eating, please don’t show up in front of me. Otherwise, I’ll feel nauseous.”
Flynn was gnawing on the pig’s trotter when he saw her and turned his head.
Kimber’s face turned dark with anger as she said coldly, “Yes, you should have a good meal. Otherwise, you won’t have the strength to take the beating later!”
Flynn threw the pig’s trotter into the plate and pointed to the shrimp in front of him with a smile, “How about this? Let’s make a bet. If Katrina really joins Davies’ Pharmaceuticals, you peel all these shrimps.”
Kimber sneered, “You’re just bluffing. Okay! But if you lose, you have to apologize for your recklessness towards our Miss Woods!”
Flynn sneered and nodded.
Seeing Flynn acting so nonchalant made Kimber annoyed, “I came here just to tell you not to spread rumors about being engaged to our Miss Woods anymore. The Woods family can’t afford to be humiliated. Understand?”
“If I find out that you’ve ruined her reputation… I’ll rip your mouth apart!”
Flynn smiled, “Don’t worry. I want nothing more than to distance myself from that arrogant woman!”
“You…” Kimber was about to explode when she saw someone walking through the door.
“Ms. Richardson is here!”
One guest spotted Katrina coming in first and shouted loudly.
Braiden was talking business with an investor from Angel Investments but seeing Katrina walk through the door made him smirk smugly.
“What did I say? Ms. Richardson must have seen our new drug release video so she came here for cooperation talks.”
The surrounding guests also flattered.
“Ms. Richardson joining Swanson Group will be like adding wings onto tigers. It won’t be long before Swanson Group becomes Ostrad’s largest pharmaceutical company!”
“Ms. Richardson is also like Phoenix flying high on branches. Helping each other will surely become legendary!”
“The Swanson Group has developed rapidly over these years thanks largely due Mr. Swanson himself who is truly an outstanding talent! The Swanson family will definitely make huge leaps forward within ten years! We need to take this opportunity tightly!”
Kimber saw Katrina come in and a hint of satisfaction flashed in her eyes. She taunted Flynn, saying, “Ms. Richardson must have been drawn to the new product from the Swanson’s Group and came over to discuss cooperation with Mr. Swanson.”
“I told you not to pretend, but you just had to do it! Now you’ve met the real deal, haven’t you?”
“Don’t forget about our bet earlier. Be polite and apologize to my lady!”
