Chapter twenty two

Book:Revenge of the Son In Law Published:2024-5-1

Charles POV
I knew this whole betting game will affect the company. I warned Adams about it but he shut me off. Now a very important contract has being cancelled after a long wait.
I came out of Adams’ office and bumped in Dave at the entrance.
“What are you doing peeping in at Mr Adams’ office in that manner?” I asked.
“Nothing sir.” He replied.
“Oh. Nothing you say? Okay. Then I’m sure you won’t mind if I inform him of your presence here the whole time.” I said and turned to enter Mr Adams’ office again.
Dave held me back by the hand immediately.
“Ready to talk?” I asked.
“I wasn’t doing anything bad sir. I only noticed that when Mr Adams came in he looked so angry. I just thought that the only way to find out is by trying to listen to his conversation. But I wasn’t successful. I couldn’t hear a thing.” He explained.
“Look Dave… Listening in on someone’s conversation is not a good habit. If you want to know what really is wrong with someone you should ask that person.” I said.
“Thank you sir. I’ll do just that.” He said.
Then I suddenly remembered that Mr Adams had gone to meet Dave’s mother in Dave’s home without Dave’s knowledge of it.
Oh great! Just the right advice to give. How stupid of me. I had to think of something fast.
If Dave goes to Mr Adams while he is still in an angry mood things will go bad.
“Uh… Dave?” I said.
“Yes sir?” He answered.
“Are you planning on meeting Mr Adams right away?” I asked.
“Yes sir. I haven’t got a moment to spare. He was there for me when I was sad about my best friend, Hilton, leaving without me having his number. I should be there for him too right? Even if I don’t really know what the problem is.” Dave explained.
“Yeah. I don’t really think that this is the right time to do that.” I said.
“Why not?” He asked.
“Well you see… Mr Adams has a very hot temper. I don’t think it’s right for you to bother him right now.” I replied.
“You think so?” He asked.
“I know so.” I replied.
“Okay. I won’t bother him right now. I’ll just wait for his mood to improve. Then I’ll ask him what the problem is.” He agreed.
I breathed deeply in relief after Dave goes back to his desk. That was a close one.
Dave POV
There is something going on that I don’t know about and I have to get the the roots of the matter.
Mr Adams, Mr Charles, and even my own mother… They have all been acting strange. I feel like there is something that they all know and only among themselves. And I’ve been wondering what it is that they have been hiding.
I’ve tried peeping through Mr Adams’ office door but that has quickly been foiled by Mr Charles.
Now I have to think of something else to do. It’s a good thing I came up with a good excuse to give Mr Charles when he caught me.
What will I do next now? It’s almost time for us to close for the day.
I looked at the clock and it was fifteen minutes to six.
I’ll have to think of something to do by tomorrow. Right now I have to rest my head a bit.
It’s now six ‘o’ clock and also time for us to go home. I kept watching Mr Charles from my desk, waiting for him to finish with what he was doing so we can go home.
Nr Adams came out of his office and locked the door. He turned from the door and left the company. Anger was written all over Mr Adams face.
Come to by think of it, I heard some of the employees here talking about an Important contract that was lost. That’s probably why Mr Adams is very angry. But where was he when the contract was brought?
All this deep thinking is giving me a big headache.
“Dave.” Mr Charles called.
“Yes sir?” I answered.
“Let’s go. It’s time for us to leave.” He replied.
“Okay sir.” I said and ran over to him.
We both left the company and entered his car. We didn’t say a word to each other all through the driving. And to my greatest surprise he even dropped me home and still left without saying anything. What’s wrong with home now?
Charles POV
I and Dave entered my car and I started to drive. I kept thinking of everything that has been happening in the company ever since Mr Adams entered that stupid net of a thing.
Putting everything under control is very difficult for me right now.
I still can’t believe we lost that contract. And it’s all because he simply can’t just end the dumb bet he had with Johnson.
I stopped at Dave’s house and he came down from my car. He closed the door and I continued to drive, but to my house.
“Oh damn it!” I didn’t even speak to Dave all this while.” I said to myself.
I don’t even know how I could be so deep in thought and still drive properly till I reached where I was to stop. And how about Dave now? What if he starts to suspect me for something? I and Mr Adams haven’t been behaving like we normally do.
It’s difficult for me to believe that such a smart boy as Dave wouldn’t notice any of these things at all.
I really feel sorry for Dave and his mother. I know Mr Adams very well. He will definitely do something to get back at Dave’s mother if he doesn’t win the bet.
I drove until I reached my house.
I unlocked my door and entered. I threw my suitcase on the table in my room and landed my whole body heavily on the bed.
I’m so exhausted. Adams keeps making more and more difficult for me at work. I’m very sure that the next two days of his ridiculous bet will be the worst! My whole body is aching.
