She stared at the food items in confusion, while wondering where it came from. She couldn’t remember ordering for food, and to see the items early morning, left her in a state of confusion.
“Whoa! I’m so happy, we’ve finally gotten foodstuffs. I can’t remember the last time we had foodstuffs in this dorm,” Nina squeaked excitedly, as she made to grab the stuffs, but Lilly was quick to take it away from her, before giving her a glare.
“Must you always be this careless? You don’t even know who sent it, and you want to take them, what’s wrong with you?” Lilly scoffed unbelievably, before arranging the stuffs back into the polythene bag.
“Who cares about the sender? We’ve been starving here for long, if an angel was sent to deliver this to us, who are we to reject or think twice about this opportunity? Let’s just take this as a gift from our guardian angels.” Nina said with a smile on her face, but Lilly glared at her before walking over to the door and pulled it open, after which she stormed out of the dorm room.
“Is she not hungry?” Nina asked no one in particular, then picked the bag and went into the kitchen, before proceeding to arranging them in their cabinet, and after she was done, she proceeded to making some food for breakfast. She couldn’t help the excitement that kept lingering in her, as she couldn’t help the smile that settled on her lips. She didn’t think they were going to ever eat for days, and here they were, having more than enough food to last them for days, how wonderful can God be more than this?
The kitchen door suddenly opened and Lilly walked inside, but froze on her spot with her eyes widened in bewilderment, as she found Nina, cooking in the kitchen.
“What the heck do you think you’re doing, Nina?” She shrieked, while staring at her in shock, and she jerked.
“You startled me, when did you come inside?” Nina asked instead, Lilly scoffed unbelievably and frustratingly. She couldn’t believe that after what she said before going out of the dorm, she still dared to touch the food. What kind of a human being is she?
“I asked a question, Nina!” She snapped at her angrily, and Nina flinched.
“Can you stop this Lilly? This is…”
“You know what? Never mind,” She cut her off, and with that she turned and walked out of the kitchen, banging the door behind him…
Lilly POV
I’ve been ignoring Nina for the whole day, what she said was annoying. I understand the fact that we’re having a tough time, but that doesn’t mean she should be so careless and greedy, right?
After lecture, I packed up my books and started leaving the class, when Nina rushed up to me, but I ignored her and continued walking.
“Come on Lilly, I’ve said sorry like a million times already,” She whined, as she tucked on my arm, but I didn’t stop to listen to whatever she had to say, she was wrong, and I have to make her realize her mistakes.
“Are you going to be like this forever?” She whined again, close tears and I was forced to stop walking.
“What do you want Nina? Why not just leave me alone? You’ve eaten all you want, haven’t you?” I said frustratingly.
“Please forgive me baby girl, you know I’m an ulcer patient and the doctor said that I should eat more often, I wouldn’t have done that if not…”
“Urgh! Never mind, you’re forgiven,” I said frustratingly. She sure knows how to get me, always using this ulcer shit to blackmail me. We walked through the hallway, till we got to the verandah and straight to the gate before leaving the school premises.
Stepping out of the school gate, I froze on my spot as I was welcomed by the shock of my life. Leaning against a black car, dressed in all black is a familiar figure, and taking a close look at him, it dawned on me who he was, it was the man I ran into on the day of the restaurant incident. Gosh! How the heck did he traced me down here? Is he here to arrest me for what happened?
Pretending not to know him while praying that it works, I walked passed him with Nina, who wasn’t conscious of what was going on, but stopped abruptly as his words cut through my ears.
“Are you a pretender too?” His voice came on, and I was forced to stop. How come he still recognizes me? Silly me, I haven’t changed a bit have I?
Turning around to face him, I pulled a puzzled look still pretending not to know what was happening, but even I know that it was pointless, he already caught me anyways, so I should just apologize to him and get this done with once and for all.
“Hello Mr, looking for someone?” Nina spoke up first, even before I could talk, and I just pursed my lips, waiting for what was going to happen, but the young man ignored her and turned his attention to me.
“Hey! Still remember me?” A smirk curled up at the corner of his lips, as he stared at me intently like he was trying to see through me. Alright now I’m screwed.
“I… I think you’re mistaking me for someone, Mr.” I said, still pretending and he scoffed as he shook his head.
“Anyway, I came to return this to you.” He said as he brought out my favorite hair pin from his pocket. What the heck! How did he got that?
“Lilly isn’t that the hairpin you would never let go of for a second? How come he has it?” Nina whispered into my ear confusingly and I closed my eyes briefly, I give up at this point.
“Uhm…” I stopped to think of what to say.
“I’ll just throw it away, maybe I must’ve mistook you for someone really.” He said, and before I could say a word, he threw the hairpin away, and I gasped sharply as my eyes widened in shock. What did he just do? Th… that hairpin means a lot to me…, it was the last thing my dad gave me before he died.
“Excuse me.” He smirked at me before going into his car and zoomed off, while I just stood transfixed…
