After Flynn spoke, the entire room was stunned and then became unsettled.
“Thodell Mansion? Isn’t that War God Cruz’s house? Worth over 300 million dollars, and Flynn says it’s his?”
“The cheapest villa in Plenilune Mountain costs at least 30 million. With over twenty buildings added up, it’s worth at least a billion. Do you think it’s worthless?”
Everyone looked at Flynn like he was crazy, their eyes filled with disbelief.
Layla sneered, “Flynn, not having any ability is one thing but trying to deceive others with lies is another.”
“If your bad intentions are discovered then just change them. What use is there in making up such absurd excuses?”
“It will only make people look down on you even more!”
She felt that Flynn was unreasonable. To cover up his thievery he actually claimed that War God Cruz’s Thodell Mansion belonged to him!
“Miss Woods is right!” Paulina awkwardly laughed and glared at Flynn. “We’re not materialistic people; going to jail isn’t a big deal as long as we work hard and no one speaks ill of us.”
“But what about you? You only want to steal without working hard or earning anything honestly!”
“Madeline really got unlucky by marrying you!”
Madeline sighed when she heard this and was thoroughly disappointed in Flynn.
She couldn’t help but feel sorry for herself.
With her comprehensive conditions being so good – her looks and figure could rank among Niarak’s top five – she ended up marrying a convict.
It was clear how unwilling she felt deep down inside.
She stared at Layla in a daze, then clenched her fist tightly and shouted to herself, “I will work even harder to become like you and make Flynn feel ashamed of himself for leaving!”
Charlotte sneered, “Uncle, have you finally seen the truth? Flynn is just a liar and thief. Can you really change someone who is rotten to the core?”
Sam’s face darkened as he said sternly, “Matteo, I don’t care what kind of person your son-in-law is. Just make sure he keeps his leash tight and doesn’t bite anyone else! If he causes trouble for the Kaur family, there will be consequences.”
“If this useless guy was my son-in-law, I would have reported him to the police already! Why are you defending him?”
Scarlet was infinitely shocked. Flynn lived in a 300 million dollar mansion and yet people from the Kaur family still wanted to distance themselves from him? They were short-sighted fools who would regret it in the future!
“Flynn just picked up some bad habits while in prison.”
“Everyone should stop talking now. I believe he can change.”
Matteo sighed lightly and spoke earnestly to Flynn, “Flynn, people may not have talent but they must never give up on themselves.”
“You got lucky this time with Miss Woods helping out but don’t count on it happening again.”
“You must keep a positive attitude so that you don’t disappoint your mother!”
Flynn nodded his head and said, “Mr. Kaur, I will listen to your words but I have never let my mother down before.”
“I always remember her words; they are engraved in my heart forever!”
Layla gave Flynn a deep look and said indifferently, “I’m not breaking off the engagement because I look down on you. I just feel that our social status is too different, and we won’t be happy together.”
“I thought about our engagement and came to persuade you.”
“Since you’re still stubborn, then I have nothing else to say. Do what you want!” Layla finished speaking and left.
Matteo forcefully escorted Flynn to the front gate after Layla departed.
Once she was gone, Flynn spoke up, “Mr. Kaur, how much do you know about the war ten years ago?”
Caleb had given him very little information aside from the Punishment Ring; he knew nothing of who was behind it or his mother’s identity.
Matteo had known his mother for many years; surely he must know more than anyone else?
“What did Luca tell you just now?!” Matteo’s heart skipped a beat as he nervously asked.
Flynn nodded and said earnestly, “I’ve already learned some clues about my mother’s enemies. If you know anything, please tell me truthfully.”
“Well… it has always been the Clark family pursuing your mother. Don’t you already know?” Matteo replied.
Flynn saw Matteo’s eyes flicker with suspicion and seriously said, “Aside from the Clark family, there is another force chasing after my mother with great energy.”
“Ten years ago they sent over a hundred masters to hunt her down.”
“My mother died the day after she was seriously injured in that war,” Flynn said. “I found out from Caleb that Sebastian was involved in the assassination. I want revenge for my mother!”
Matteo became agitated upon hearing this. “What revenge are you talking about, kid? Who is Sebastian?”
“He’s a member of the Evans family, and he’s ranked third in Ostrad’s underground world. He kills without blinking an eye and has hundreds of lives on his hands.”
“He also has four martial arts masters by his side, and even Orion would avoid him.”
“His identity is terrifying enough, but he still takes orders from someone behind the scenes. You can imagine how taboo this matter is!”
“What do you have to take revenge with? Forget it! Never mention it again!” Matteo scolded Flynn.
“Okay! I won’t mention it!” Flynn didn’t want to worry Matteo anymore, so he stopped talking about it and went into the Kaur family’s villa.
After fleeing with his mother to Niarak, she moved them to another part of town for fear of endangering the Kaur family. They only visited occasionally at night and left immediately after dinner.
To ensure their safety, Flynn’s mother didn’t tell him everything.
“I’ll have to investigate slowly on my own,” thought Flynn.
Matteo watched Flynn enter the house before taking out his phone and dialing a number hesitantly.
The call connected.
Matteo’s hand trembled slightly as he spoke softly, “He knows about that war ten years ago now and wants to investigate it himself.”
The phone line was dead silent for a few seconds before a low, icy voice came through, “You don’t need me to remind you how terrifying the aftermath of that battle was. Keep an eye on him.”
The voice was deep and resonant, with a hint of displeasure.
Matteo couldn’t help but shiver as he quickly replied, “Don’t worry, he’s well-behaved and I’ll follow your instructions. Nothing will happen.”
“Besides,” Matteo added hastily, “we share the same goal. I’ve even married off my daughter to show my loyalty.”
There was a moment of silence before Matteo asked tentatively, “Um… I just wanted to ask if she’s okay?”
Instantly there was anger in the voice on the other end of the line.
“What did we agree on? Don’t ask about her! Focus on your own tasks or you may never see her again!”
Matteo nodded frantically in fear and respect before hanging up and returning to his villa.
As soon as he entered, members of the Kaur family began shouting at him.
“If it weren’t for Miss Woods’ help this time around, our family would have been destroyed! Flynn will continue causing trouble – we must cut ties with him!”
“This kid can’t stay! Matteo, cut ties with him quickly to avoid further trouble for the Kaur family!”
“He causes trouble everywhere he goes, regardless of the severity. This guy is a jinx and a menace!”
